Huh – thought I had a Vintage Big Muff – but mine doesn’t look like those. It has more graphics on it.

its probably a later one vintage one
if it has a switch on the top and doesnt have a led light then its a orginal big muff not the reissue
heres some info for yah

yah i bought a black cat version to the super fuzz its pretty awsome*all hand wired true bypass and all that fancy shit* i love it but kinda sucks on solos if its not by its self *but of course i use way too many damn pedals at once sucks so much tone*
i wish it would sustain a bit more with my other stuff oh well other wise its an awsome pedal does that great buzzsaw fuzz famous of the who
and mudhoney

might have to invest in a cae switcher someday
when i become a rich famous rockstar ::)

i have to say save up and get an old big muff there worth the money
i have 3 old big muffs
sadly i only really like one of them*the other too are kinda noisey full blast*
2 of them have the version 3 paint job with the rams head 3003 curcit in it*cheaper*
and the other one is 78 big muff with the later ic chips in it*i might try to sell* it sounds simular my other ones but i still like my less noisey one
ill either play it full blast ie everything turned full *the idoit settings*
or everything turned about half way for rythme
and the funny thing is if you get a old big muff the knobs dont line up very well*there all over the place* so its hard to get the correct settings with anything well thats how my one muff is anyways ill shut up peace

heres a weird one i picked up a few weeks ago
yes the body is stock
and its a 94-95 model (made in japan not a crafted one)
sadly no date stamp under the neck*but i tracked down the date thanks to fender.com*

its a 2 piece flame maple top
and ill be damned its lighter then my 97 model
i think if i get another one its gonna a later crafted one cause the necks are thicker and i like bigger necks*

you dont have to take the finish off to refinish a guitar. Sometimes it’s best to, I always do. I do because Fender started putting too much paint on the new guitars. I take it down to the wood and then put about a spray paint can amount of paint on it (including the base/prime coats) Then I relic the CRAP out of them! Fender in the 60’s even painted over the finished guitars (the Respray guitars you hear about). Also the reason why some relic guitars have sunburst underneath the new finish. I like that idea if you go with a latex paint or the like. You can just strip the finish later if you want to…..it’s cheap paint and you can see if you like it or not. If you wanna sell it……strip it back to original finish…just be carefull.
I almost got a ’59 Jazzy body (with all electronics) with a ’64 or ’65 Strat neck off of Ebay. I just about had the guy talked into a trade for it for my Mustang, a broken Dobro and a Mandolin. But then someone in like Europe bought it now……jerk!

R/J.

wow thats too bad would have been a great score!

wonder if the seller (the ebayers cousin) is an old man who likes sparkle colours. Or if he is a young guitarist who suddenly felt like repainting an old guitar.

dunno sometimes people dont like the color so they respray them
it cuts alot off of the price
i figure if your a guitarist and not a collector it be better to get one like that
refinished guitars are alot cheper then original finishes
plus you can paint them the color you want ;) and not feel bad
if i had the money id deffently go for that one i love the finish on it!
sadly i dont… oh well

I wonder how J mascis found his sound in such an early age. stooges didn’t use big muff, did they? where did he get the idea of using big muff?

well i remeber reading that electro harminox pedals were really cheap back in the 80s cause no one wanted them
so i think hed buy them cheap, settled for them i guess just like the jazzmaster
you know he wanted like a old strat with a worn in neck but couldnt afford one so he bought the jazzmaster
anyways…
i think the old big muffs are awsome!
the 3003 curcits are the best!

eh…my step dad GAVE me his as a going away present when I moved to Nashville. I like to call it my "Go Away Present." I’ve seen a few on Ebay and one around here, they list $1,200 and go for around $700. Find one in decent shape and work on it or something…..it’s really easy. Also, look around on Ebay for "project guitars" "project Gibson" etc. You can find insane deals on great guitars. Sometimes all they need is love and a little glue. Although I almost bought a Gibson from the 50’s that was demolished, but it got up too high and I didn’t even bid on it. It was easily in like 150 pieces and it had a case too, but it got to like $150 and I felt that was a bit pricey….maybe not…..but, a TON of work and I could have a 50’s Gibson for $150…..but I didn’t want to do it.

Look around man, great deals are everywhere.
