cool that you found a good new place to live, Allison

hope it doesn’t cost a fortune to keep it warm, in those chilly canadian winters. I mean, I hope the isolation of the big windows is good.hehe thanks, I’m also tending to these…
I also like checking out new stuff, and in the Weltbühne club, bands are starting quite very late in the evening, so I was thinking of catching these gigs after the other shows on the same evening.and I forgot to mention this alternative plan:
Dinosaur Jr, August 31, Koko/ London
Sleater-Kinney, September 02, Koko/ London…would be great, still up in the air, though

hope it will show up on freesofree!July 30, 2005 at 11:06 am in reply to: Questions you would like to hear asked in Dino interviews. #111647we had the other topic from 2003 about journalists and interviews, it has been sticky for a long time, but many of the questions are outdated now,
so I made this topic sticky instead
here are the still up to date questions from the other topic, they’re all questions for J:
– You’ve recently talked about how much you enjoy playing drums, I’m wondering who you consider the top five drummers in your world, someone who influenced you or just thrilled the hell out of you?
– You said in other interviews that you worship the Indian Saint Amma. Did you have the chance to see her on her current world tour?
And what’s the deal with the record which is being sold on the current tour?– Why do Purple Marshalls sound so much better?
– You’ve done many interviews during the past few months …there must be some questions you can’t stand anymore !?
"squeapler" wrote:i would ask how j feels he’s evolved as a musician over the years, what he’s learned about music or life that he wishes he knew when he was young, and also what advice he would give to anyone starting out as a guitarist. what sort of equipment, etc. also how he feels about technique vs. effects because so many younger guitarists seem very dependent on effects to me…it would seem you have to have both but I’d love to hear j’s take on it."anthony" wrote:i’d like to know why they can’t fund us [the fan sites]…and regarding the discussion about J being "hard" to interview, because him being quiet and not talkative:
"rosa" wrote:my solution: knock off the cynical post-ironic questions, knock off the yes-or-no questions, and ask the man something that demands an answer. gear (purple Marshalls
) and spirituality are two great starting points. even the shyest of guitar nerds will happily talk about those two things.
and oh yeah, shut up and listen for the answers.

I remember reading an interview where J said that the only instrument he learned properly from a teacher were the drums, and that he never had guitar lessons. and when he started with playing guitar it sounded all winpy to him, until he started to play the guitar like playing drums, and to enhance the volume

there are many guitarists he mentioned to be an influence on his way of playing guitar, like Ron Asheton from the Stooges, among many others.
cool find, King Tubby, thanks a lot!

is it somewhere to find online, or did you type it all out?hey Spaceboy, good to see you back here.
thanks for the input! as I knew you’re into Oldham’s music for a long time, I’m appreciating your recommendation
woohooo Carl, so you’ll catch them twice
…have lots of fun! -
