Thank you all! I’m really relieved, because they’re living so close to the WTC.
I’m still shocked and full of horror after I learned that it was not at all an action movie there on TV. We’ve been watching TV all afternoon at work and it’s still unbelievable I’m thinking about my sister all the time, she’s somewhere there in NYC and I’m just hoping she’s ok. I couldn’t reach her yet
It is an act of ultimate terror and I’m afraid of the consequences it will have, for you in the US and for all of us.
Let’s hope we can get out of this somehow civilized.
quote:
Originally posted by eggwater:

Yeah, The Seeds were great. I especially love the "live in the Hollywood Bowl" record. The studio albums are quite tame.
Sky Saxon was a great performer then. I always wondered why they’ve never been that famous (Sky Saxon may have asked himself the same question, I think)Hm, well my Mom threw the LPs in the garbage which I have left there when I moved away from my parents. She was afraid of "satanic messages" on those LPs. *sigh*.
She was in her serious religious phase then
You should be glad when your parents are quite tolerant and give your favourite music a listen.[ August 31, 2001 04:52 PM: Message mutated 1 time, lastly by Flying Cloud ]
Hey ELJ, I’m listening to Modest Mouse right now: yes, I bought ‘Lonesome Crowded West’ finally, just because you guys don’t stop talking about them. Well, it’s quite good, but it may take more time to become really familiar with their sound.
But we should not forget that there are serious authorities like Voodoo Guy or Jeremiah’s wife, who still wouldn’t recommend Modest Mouse
quote:
Originally posted by ELJ:

Hey, I finally managed to fix the problem. Now I can hear the topic theme song … or is it just me, starting to sing spontaneusly when opening the topic?
And where are the good looking losers you promised me ???
hey Allison,
I would never mix in a stable marriage, ELJ’s computer must have been drinking.
But yes, let’s play frisbee somewhere with our records (only the dull ones of course), you and your husband, and me (and some good looking losers).
yeah, Killing Joke are really crappy.
How could I ever buy that.I’ve read somewhere, that JAMC asked Epic Soundtracks to play drums on that tour in the late eighties, and that they decided to go on tour with the machine instead as he refused. Epic Soundtracks has been a former Swell Maps member and J played some guitar on one of his solo albums. Well, Epic died a few years ago.
It didn’t annoy me so much, that there was no drummer on that JAMC tour, but the gig lasted less than an hour with no encores

Hmmmm, as long as they’re looking good … not like this:
Another thing: I can’t hear the theme music in this topic. What I’m doing wrong?

I went through my vinyls and had a look, which ones still do it for me and which ones don’t. It was an interesting question, though I found no singular pattern.
Here are my lists:
The ‚Oh No’ list includes mostly stuff out of the 80’s: The Cure, Japan, Killing Joke, Madness, David Bowie , Nick Cave, Wedding Present, Sugarcubes/ Björk.The ones I still feel fond for are more mixed(have I got to mention Dinosaur Jr?)
MBV, JAMC, Gun Club, The Fall, The Go-Betweens, John Cale/ Velvet Underground, Big Star, and early 80’s stuff as well like the Associates, the Specials and the B 52’s.A third list generated itself out of punk records like the Birthday Party, the Swell Maps, Clash, Sex Pistols or the Ramones. I still feel much respect for these records, but do not listen to them more than very once in a while. Maybe it has to do with the fact that they’re out of an area before ‘my time’. They’re more like history to me.
The titles out of my CD collection mostly are too new to estimate them like this. Here I go with Salamiguy

Hey ELJ, what about free entry for ladies? I mean, without lengthy questionnaire ???
well, I’m happy, don’t worry.
Hey Jebus, great plan, I hope it works Good luck.
I put the following tracks on a CD just to play in the background, while hanging around with my friends. I earned no frowns and this is quite much, for most of them are more into popular airplay stuff.
My list goes: In A Jar, Show Me The Way, Freakscene, Let It Ride, How’d You Pin That One On Me, Thumb, Out There, Drawerings, I Ain’t Sayin, Get Out Of This, Over Your Shoulder, I Don’t Think, Nothin’s Goin On. Alone, Loaded, Gotta Know.
It fits on a 74 Minutes CDThat’s good news all the way, thank you for posting the link
I’m glad to hear that J’s quite well off now
and that there are many things forthcoming.
A live compilation and a new album
Well, we Europeans haven’t got the chance to watch Allison Anders’ new movie now but you can’t have everything.hey Dimpf, welcome here in Hamburg
The weather is lousy most of the time but well, what can you do … -
