last night I was on a very weird festival, it was a festival of gothic/industrial/EBM bands, and hell, you can guess that I wasn’t the only one dressed in black

the bands were Hocico, Spetznaz, Icon Of Coil, God Module and KiEw …well, I haven’t heard of any of them before, either

but that didn’t matter, it was a good occasion to get an impression, what Industrial/Electronic Body Music is about today.
Nevertheless the Industrial/Gothic scene is much more alive and kicking than I would have ever thought. there were way over 1000 people, far more than at shows where I usually go to, and all that for bands which are not broadly popular. The fans were either fossils from the 80’s but more of them were younger and seem to enjoy to revive the 80’s, a time when they were just born.I enjoyed a lot to watch all these people who were dressed in black, many of them with lots of leather and fancy.
Musically, all I knew before were some imprecise memories about the bands Front 242, KMFDM or Laibach — and about the sound of the bands yesterday, I have to say that it was a lot like the last 15 years didn’t happen. The bands sounded quite exactly like the bands out of that genre back in time

Throughout the night, the very hard beats and the keyboard clouds with the rough growl of singing wasn’t varied much, but that was exacly what the fans wanted.
nevertheless, EBM is a Techno predecessor, and therefore very danceable, an aspect which I liked a lot, but after a while I painfully missed the one or other guitar sound. I mean, bands like Soulwax or the Faint successfully combine that kind of electronic beats with fat guitar sounds, but that seems to be unknown terrain for these Industrial bands I’ve seen yesterday.
I hope I don’t sound critical, as I enjoyed the night very much as an expedition into not very well known terrain
Robert, you can d/l soulseek here: slsknet.org

or even better: you can d/l the very stable beta version of the next release here: slsknet.org/beta.php
the new version has some very helpful features, especially you can store notes about the users in your list. I wouldn’t want to miss that feature anymore!
hope you’ll find your way back there, soon!
The slsk-names of Freakscene Freaks are (as far as I know):
kwayzin (who is sappy here on the BBS, the founder of the Freakscene Junkies room, who gave us the hint to check soulseek, thanks again, sappy!)
cow girl (expext nothing),
kurticus7 (the ineffable me/kurticus7),
meverat (bob),
jumpers/peren
(simmons)
grounded (jamclark),
Flying Cloud (me)…and quite a lot more…
we have a chatroom on soulseek, it is called Dinosaur Jr 101. to find it, you have to refresh the room list first, because rooms with less than 20 users are only visible after refreshing the list.
anyone here is very welcome in the room!

but don’t be surprised that we’re not talking all the time, some users just use the room as their "online home", and join the room, whenever they are on soulseek, also while sleeping or working etc.
to join the room automatically with each visit, just right click in the room and "toggle autojoin"so great to hear that there are live recordings from the current tour! thanks for letting us know of your recording, musicmoon11, and welcome here on the site!

I haven’t seen, that Dead Moon have been mentioned much on this site, although they’re said to be an awesome live band, and they have gained a considerable die-hard fan crowd all around the places they performed.
Cool to hear, that J also enjoyed their show
well, that’s the way the artist sees him…

great poster, thanks for the link RiPart!!
thanks a lot for the reviews, intodeep, Jayne and sewersofmars!

too bad, the video recording didn’t work out, but great to hear that there is a good audio recording available

thanks a lot guys for making it available, I’ll listen to it as soon as possible (…wishing once more, J came to Europe)sewersofmars, FLAC is a lossless format for audio files (other than mp3, where quality is lost through compression). you can easily listen to FLAC files with winamp player, if you d/l the plugin for FLAC on freesofree.net.
For listening and burning, you can find some useful tools here: sourceforge.net

…great example for J’s deadpan humour.short but cool review, dinojas, thanks for reporting back from the show, and welcome here!

If you would have postponed your birthday for one day this year, my birthday wishes would have come in time…

hope you had a great birthday yesterday, Mattman!

big welcome from me as well!

so good to hear, that things went well!I wonder how the ATP festival went, hopefully the one or other review about it will show up in the J Live forum

And I’m definitely looking forward to the reviews about the upcoming east coast shows. have fun everybody who has the chance to be there, and keep us updated!!!
"Robert" wrote:The Soundtrack Of Our Livescool, I’ve read quite a lot about them lately and checked out their new record. I think their sound is kinda old-school in a weird and cool way, and sounds fresh at the same time. I’m sure they’re a great live band. guess I’d go to see them if they came down here.
too bad you weren’t in the condition to really follow what’s going on on stage… hope you survived the hangover!
"Annastefka" wrote:"Flying Cloud" wrote:…maybe J and Luisa move over to Germany now?Gosh, FC, Isn’t Germany having some sort of unemployment slup at the moment. I listened to a great radio piece the other day on the future strengh of the EU, however, VERY INTERESTING!!!!
true, Germany is struggling with increasing unemployment numbers for some years now, and the social democratic/green government here is about to cut down social welfare standards.
But I’m with you concerning the wish that the European Union will find to a more coherent alignment, to function more effectively as a counter-balance to the US foreign policy.lol, no the painter said it would smell but that the paint isn’t poisonous. it is allowed to be used in food factories etc. but nevertheless this smell is getting on my nerves

he said he had to use it for some moisture spots on the wall to be covered. they were caused from the neighbours above and weren’t humid anymore, but would come through normal paint.hmmm… Nico, then?
