for the 9th, I had an upstairs ticket, and again I was there early to get into the 1st row. very good overview from there, low balustrade which didn’t bother the sight at all. a bit far back from stage, but not too far.
it was certainly a much better general sight over the crowd, the moshers and over the stage (and even the backstage door)the openers, Modey Lemon from Pittsburgh were quite good. it’s a three piece rock band, who also make use of two synthesizers, at the same time while playing bass or guitar. the raw, uptempo rock with quite melancholic lyrics and electronic sound effects fitted well together.
After that, the Dino gear was set up, then at about nine the light was dimmed, but the tape music in the background wouldn’t stop, and we had to wait extra 15 minutes until the band finally entered the stage, so the enthusiasm was almost overboarding already at the beginning.
the setlist was different than the day before. I’m not good at reminding setlists, but there were at least 4 different songs:
The Post
, Bulbs Of Passion
:!:, Severed Lips
and Quest.
Also played (among others/no order, please fill it up!): Little Fury Things, In A Jar, Forget The Swan, Kracked, The Lung, Repulsion, Sludgefeast, Just Like Heaven, Does It Float and, as the second encore, Freakscene (there can’t be a show w/o Freakscene, so I was sure they’d return when they left stage after the 1st encore).
This was probably my personal most perfect setlist out of the first three albums
it was weird to be so distant from the stage, and it was even weirder to rock out seated, but on the other hand, the overview was perfect, and you could see the light effects much better. I don’t even know if they’ve also used these strobe effects on Wedensday, but from above they looked very cool.
I couldn’t say which show I enjoyed more, both were similar in some points, but so different in others, and both they were great

For what I was seeing around me, the enthusiasm & excitement was even on a higher level on the 9th than on the 8th, and J played some more extended, dissolving free floating solos, which were so great at the point when the guitar returned to "topic", and Murph & Lou were there to just go ahead as if there was nothing. that was tight. amazing on the fourth show after all these years, considereing they hadn’t much practice time :
They definitely still have the spirit, and hopefully they have a much more relaxed time together than in former times.can’t wait to see the band for a third time on this tour on Monday in Berlin
:D:D
From what I’ve seen in London, it’s definitely worth to see them more than once!!!I’ve been at both shows, and both were great, but slightly different.
On the 8th, I had a downstairs ticket and of course I were there early to have a good choice of the spot I’ll be at the show, and also to meet up with rambleon & her husband in front of the venue. it was great to see them again, but not much time to talk because they had upstairs ticket, and upstairs and downstairs areas were kept strictly separate.
Inside the hall I was doubting about what was the best spot. I was totally in doubt of sound quality in front, and also a bit worried about the moshing action, but on the other hand, I came over from germany to see this show, and I wanted to be close. so I decided for the 1st row, and I was right with it
I didn’t know the opener, Eugene Kelly, he came with a band, and it was nice, dreamy almost quiet country inspired rock.
but when he left, the excitement increased in every minute, as the stage guys adjusted the dino gear, and the sold out hall filled up fast.and then, right on time they entered the stage and from then on I knew I had exactly the right spot in the first row: a little bit left of center, close to Lou, and just right out of the way of the biggest moshing action. it was clear that the guys around me moved from excitement, not at all aggressively or annoying, it was just evident, that we were all carried by the same enthusiasm

The two patient and polite security guys in front (in the space between the reeling and the stage) had a hard time to pull the stage divers out of the crowd, ad they gave out glasses of water to the exhausted towards the end.
like the others here said before, the band was extremely tight, Murph was throwing himself into the drums and you could almost better feel than hear the bass vibrations.
over it all, J spread the guitar volume. unfortunately the vocals weren’t that clear in front, but still audible, so in general, the sound was ok.towards the end, Lou broke a bass sting & had to exchange the bass, also Murph broke at least one stick. After the show, several used sticks were given out by the nice stage guy mentioned, and you could see the deep notches on the sticks. the guy also gave Lou’s broken string, the set lists, picks and other memorabilia stuff he could find on stage.
I wonder if he was Kevin Sweeney (see topic)
he sat at the side of the stage throughout the show, and was always at hand when J or Lou had to exchange instruments. he was a lot into the music, also clapping & cheering after songs etc.
I’ve never seen a pic of Kyle Spence, but there was a young guy who set up the drum kit at both shows, and I was wondering if it was him
(on the setlist we obtained, we asked Bobby Gillespie and another Primal Scream guy to sign. we kept it short and were polite, and the guys were nice and obviously didn’t feel annoyed. And well, Kevin Shields was standing right next to them… and i quickly asked him to sign it, too
…I was so in doubt if it would annoy him, as he came there in private as part of the crowd, and he’s said to be very reserved. but phew, he was all smiling and very nice
😀 he certainly is one of my all time favourite musicians.)and there were 2 guys who were filming throughout both shows, from different spots, and also lots of "crowd Impressions".
…it reminded me of that post: DVD project?

I’m so thrilled to see them play in London tomorrow, woooohoo!
thanks a lot for the info.

hope to meet you and your husband at the show tomorrow!

cool phone interview, thanks a lot for the hint, zacslack!

hey rambleon, I don’t know how to copy & paste from a flash site

maybe you try and check on the Macromedia site, how to view flash sites on a mac?that was my thought, too

our room on soulseek isn’t closed or something, it’s just invisible, when nobody is in there.
if you want to enter the room, right click in the rooms window, then a little form will show up, it’s called create/join room. type Dinosaur Jr 101 (case sensitive!) then you’ll be the first at that time to be in the room, and it will appear in the room list.
then I’d recommend to right click in the room and pick "toggle autojoin", then you’ll enter the room automatically the next time you come to soulseek.
And, have you guys seen, that soulseek has an upload function now? this means you can send files to someone else

but you have to change the file sharing configuration first (under "options"), about from whom you’ll accept uploads.…I’ll be downstairs on Wednesday and upstairs on Thursday

does anyone know, if the show really starts at 7pm? or is it the time when the doors open?

if you check http://www.freakscene.net/”>http://www.freakscene.net/ you’ll find links to two Dinosaur Jr tab pages, hope these are helping you with your plans.
cool, I don’t know that record by Robert Forster. I’ll look out, maybe it’s circulating somewhere.
weird enough that the Go-B’s are deservedly longtime-successful over here in continental Europe, while nobody cares about them back in their home country Australia, or in the US, where their main musical influences come from.great find!
