last night I saw… the Arcade Fire, finally :):):)

fortunately the singular showcase in March in Berlin (where I didn’t go) has been followed by a decent germany tour with a stop in my city :)
I don’t know how many people go into that hall, over 500 I think, and it was really full. I had a nice close spot on the stairs up to the gallery, and a perfect view over the stage. first come first serve :)

the opener was a guy called Owen with his amplified violin. he had some loop pedals and so he first recorded some picking sounds and strange noises to finally accompany himself, which came out weird but charming and intense, so I wish him well with his new record contract. later it turned out that he was also one of the many Arcade Fire members on stage.

then the 8 piece band entered the stage, swirling around, trading and sharing mics and instruments all through the show. R脙茠脗漏gine Chassagne was surely the one who turned all eyes on her the most, as she was singing, playing and acting devotedly in her fascinating, innocently professional way.

other band members were climbing up the stage columns, hitting everything with their drumsticks what made a sound. and all through the bustle, every single note was hit to the point by everyone. The songs from Funeral and some earlier songs were filled with life and energy, it was demonstrated how complex they are in their simplicity. so there was so much to view and to listen to, it felt like being in a magical theatre :)

they didn’t play long, but everyone understood that the band has given all they could, and everyone left happy :D

the Arcade Fire got lots of attention over here, goo, lately, but I wouldn’t say they’re overrated, but just get the attention they deserve, even though their sound might not fit into the current styles. I can only recommend to listen to "Funeral", if not already done.

I totally fell in love with the new Beck album Guero :D

…at the first listen it sounds restrained, but then the great tunes, guitar bits and sound pieces add together, and become catchy as hell. can’t get the stupidly ingenious na-na-na from E-Pro out of my ears since days, and the song Missing is simply brilliant.. and lots of other great songs to detect. I recommend anyone who ever liked Beck, to give this album a chance :)

true, the Vooruit site definitely says June 15 for Gent, thanks for the hint!
hope this fact will be re-examined on dinosaurjr.com.

Hamburg would definitely be cool! :!:

…but I doubt it. the Hurricane festival is too close to Hamburg, about 80km.
those who book a tour don’t understand that the Hurricane festival is like on another planet, and that it’s not at all comparable to the regular shows here in the city. Hamburg is big enough to have a good venue filled despite of that festival!

well, both Modest Mouse and the Pixies played Hurricane last year and also skipped Hamburg :( (MM and the Pixies played there at the same time on different stages and the fans who liked both had nervous breakdowns, also, because the sound of both bands mixed in a horrible way, as the stages weren’t far enough from each other   )

would be interesting to read that interview/article, dB! :)

                                …and there’s a very new show date on dinosaurjr.com:

Gent (Belgium) on Tuesday, June 14, @ Vooruit :D

wow, what a Euro tour so far! Groningen/Netherlands -> London -> North Germany -> South Germany -> Berlin -> Belgium. quite a zig zag tour with long distances to cover

I wonder what the TBA date on June 15 will be like! :?: :? :?:

April 28, 2005 at 2:28 pm in reply to: DINOSAUR to play Hurricane & Southside Festival in Germa #108487

on the sites of the Hurricane and Southside festivals, the timetable is now out. And it says for Dinosaur Jr:

                                  Hurricane festival: SAT 11, 1:00 – 2:00 am
                                  Southside festival: SUN 12, 9:00 -10:00 pm

(…the dates on dinosaurjr.com are the other way round…)

on both festivals, Dinosaur Jr is the last band to play on the respective night, and other than most of the bands they’ll play 1 hour instead of about 45 minutes :D

A sad chapter is the ticket price. there are no day tickets like in the last years, and for the entire w/e, it’t 89 Euros + 5 Euros refuse fee

Among the other bands, there’s no "must-have" band for me.
the bands are: 3 Doors Down 脗路 Amplifier 脗路 And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead 脗路 Ashton! 脗路 Athlete 脗路 Audioslave 脗路 Beatsteaks 脗路 Beck 脗路 Boysetsfire 脗路 Brendan Benson 脗路 Broken Social Scene 脗路 Cake 脗路 Die 脙鈥瀝zte 脗路 Dinosaur Jr. 脗路 Eagles of Death Metal 脗路 Fant脙麓mas 脗路 Feist 脗路 Flogging Molly 脗路 Kettcar 脗路 La Vela Puerca 脗路 Madrugada 脗路 Madsen 脗路 Millencolin 脗路 Moneybrother 脗路 New Order 脗路 Nine Inch Nails 脗路 Oasis 脗路 Olli Schulz und der Hund Marie 脗路 Phoenix 脗路 Queens of the Stone Age 脗路 Rammstein 脗路 Sarah Bettens 脗路 SKA-P 脗路 Slut 脗路 Swosh! 脗路 System of a Down 脗路 Team Sleep 脗路 The Dresden Dolls 脗路 The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster 脗路 The Stands 脗路 Turbonegro 脗路 Underoath 脗路 Wir Sind Helden 脗路

so I’m still unsure if I’ll go to the Hurricane festival, although it’s quite close to where I live. I’m hoping for more Euro dates. and of course there is the London shows, for which I already have my ticket :)馃檪
