Well, I don’t think we should discount the guitar idea yet. There are a lot of people such as myself that come on this site but don’t necessarily post that often. Plus, I just figured out that my username was flyingcloud72 as opposed to my old log in username (each year I get older the dumber I get with respect to technology). Maybe we should see how much we can raise for a new axe, and if it falls short then go with the pedal. Just a thought but I think the guitar idea was great and possibly doable.
Well, I just have to relate this story because its so unbelievable. Last Friday my wife gets into a car accident with some idiot in an SUV that backs into her and more or less totals our car. After we deal with all of the bs and finally make it home with the rental car replacement, I am ready to put an end to the crappy day.
But wait, what is in my mailbox? Why my advanced copy of Free so Free from Ultimatum records…4 DAYS BEFORE THE STREET DATE!!!!!
I immediately got in an put it in the CD player, and yes it is great. My favorite tracks right now (in an order which is sure to change):
1) If Thats How its Gotta Be
2) Free so Free
3) Bobbin
4) Outside
5) Set us FreeThe whole album is really good, with the exception of possibly track 9 (Say the Word)
Funny how an event can immediately change the mood of a day/weekend.
Looking forward to everyone’s reviews…

Great to see J is back on the road. Looks like he is going out right after the release of new album.
Memo to J: J if you are reading this, after your turn through Detroit and other obligatory tour stops such as Chicago, make your way down I-55 to St. Louis. the Gateway city can’t wait to rock again
Looking forward to hearing the new album live as well…
July 23, 2002 at 11:34 am in reply to: City Slang will be releasing the new J. & The Fog record #55211Does this mean that J is no longer signed under Ultimatum Records, the label that did More Light?
Has anybody heard if J played the new song he debuted in St. Louis later on in the tour. If so, does anyone have a recording or possible song title. I can only remember two short prhases from the song. They were "stuck feeling this pain" and "ran away from living"
Any help or input on this new mystery song is appreciated. I’m sure it will be on the new album along with Everybody Let Me Down
Well, last night was great (did we expect anything else?) J sounded very fresh (his voice sounded really good) and the St. Louis crowd once again was eating it up. We had a near packed house (possibly even a sellout) and the vibe was great. The crowd was digging it so much that J tried a new song and even did two encores!! Here is the set list
Blueberry Hill, St. Louis MO
* thumb
* What Else Is New
* Blowin It (J muffed the guitar on this song and cut it way short, which was unfortunate because it was sounding so good)
* Same Day
* Keeblin’
* Ammaring
* New Song (only partially played). The chorus went something like "stuck feeling this pain…/ran away from living" (Look for this one at the next few shows)
* Little Fury Things
* Everybody Let Me Down (Very nice)
* Flyin Cloud
* Get Me
* On The Run
* Waistin’
* Severed Lips (Very well done)
* Not You Again
* Throw Down
* RepulsionEncore
* Quest
* The Wagon2nd Encore
* Every Mother’s SonWhat an evening! Personally I feel very replenished. Look for the new song later in the tour. I am anxious to see how it develops and get a download here. On to Lawrence KS my friends!
3 hours and 45 minutes until showtime. Not sure who the opening act will be…hopefully they will dispose of the formalities and get to the main event asap
Thanks for the song, it sounds great. Hopefully J will play it tonight.
I just spent the morning driving from meeting to meeting throughout St. Louis County, which believe it or not was a huge benefit as it allowed me a pre-show listen to YLAOM, Where You Been, and Without a Sound.
I am hoping that J pulls out a few lesser played chestnuts tonight, like something off of Hand It Over or Without a Sound. He seems to not play much material from his last two Dino records during his live shows.
I am about 9 hours away from showtime and will report all the glorious results in the AM. For those of you attending tonight, look for me in my specialty Without A Sound T-shirt…
Up Up and away we go!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, I will let everyone know how it goes. I am not sure if I will keep a setlist but plan on reporting back the highlights. By the way, What is the name of the new song?
T-minus 24 hours and counting
Its great to see that J is playing the Festival Primera Sound in Spain on May 17-18 (However, I hope he is over the jet lag by the time he hits St. Louis on the 22nd…)
Anyone else out there planning on seeing the show in "the ‘Lou’"? Look for me in my specialty without a sound t-shirt:)
I have to concur with the last post, Without a Sound is one of my favorite albums for personal/sentimental reasons ( The album was released just before the start of my senior year at the University of Wisconsin, and as J so often does, encompassed the mood and emotion of that time in my life perfectly). I also think it is an album where J really took some chances and wrote according to what he was going through personally–even though it was in a style that he probably knew might alienate some of his fans more partial to his earlier material. A very emotional record from a fucking genius.
My least favorite is probably Hand it Over as well, though I love the song "Sure Not Over You"
I would have to say any song by Jimmy Buffett ("Cheeseburger in Paradise" comes to mind), The Steve Miller Band, or the Eagles is just downright awful. The worst part about it is all three of these artists keep touring. For the love of God would you please go away!!!!!!!!
I agree with a lot of the songs posted, however I think we have missed a few of J’s classic sad songs. In particular, some of my favorites are:
1) Outta Hand (I love the piano fills near the end of the song)
2) Mind Glow
3) Sure Not Over You (One of the more underrated Dino Jr songs in my opinion)
4) Severed Lips -
