Always great to see these legends in NZ. Not many bother to come here but this is the second time in 15 months and J and Lou have toured here individually before. Really appreciate it boys. If you go to the Studio where this gig was held, don’t stand near bar because idiots will try and get past you all night. They were moving around during J’s solos for fucks sake. Wonder why they are there. Obviously not for the music. Sludgefeast is as always awesome and it was great to hear Chunks. The new stuff came off well. Lou was in a very cheeky mood and Murph was having trouble with the tuning of his floor tom and kept hitting it and pulling funny faces. They set his kit up right at the front of the stage and looked as if it was going to fall off a couple times. The sound was not as loud as St James gig last year but all the instruments were well balanced. Just Lou’s voice was hard to pick up. Opening song had no vocal sound from J. They tweaked with their instruments/amps alot which suggests things were not ideal for them. J was actually more "talkative" than usual. Only real complaint was it was a bit short (85 mins) but well worth every searing second.

I bought a black t-shirt at the Auckland gig. $30 with the Free so Free Tour written over diagram of cover. Looks nice. Also got a small poster advertising same gig for $10. All up cost me $80 with entry to gig. Worth every cent and more.

I was privileged to be at the same Auckland show. I am from Melbourne and I had to pinch myself to believe I was seeing a guy of this stature in a lovely, intimate venue like the Galatos. I was 10 metres from the man but could have been as close as 2 metres if I had wanted to be. He just walked out on stage, sat down and fiddled with his powerboard, pedals etc for about 10 minutes. It was like we were 200 people looking through his living room window. Although he did not say much, I expected it – his music speaks his mind – stage banter is not the guy’s style. He is public reservation is touching and only adds to the ma’s enormous character. His 10 minute solo on Alone was one of the best things my ears have witnessed. I do not think I have been excited by a solo so much since Hendrix’s "Machine Gun". The power and emotion was incredible. I can concur with "The Wagon" string breaking incident – once again it was if we were looking through his window as he just methodically set up his next guitar, tuned it, and started playing where he left off. I was in hysterics and blown away at the same time. If I had the money, I would not be wasting my time here at my computer. I would be in my car driving down to Wellington for his gig tonight. Any Kiwis out there – get your arses down to the Bodega Bar tonight. A major lifetime experience awaits you
