Maybe I can finally hear No Bones live. Probably wishful thinking.
Allright!
Finally bought a ticket today. Don’t know why, but I was waffling on going to this show but now I am psyched. Maybe it was because no one would go with me. My girlfriend finally said that if I really wanted she would also attend, but I can’t in good conscience do that to her. She more than tolerates my love of Dinosaur records, but is no fan of excessive volume, so…
See you all at the show!

Without A SoundOne of the most attractive features – to me – of the J signature model is the bridge. I looked into buying a reissue Jazzmaster last year about this time, but people more knowledgeable about Jazzmasters told me that there is a problem with the bridge rattling or strings buzzing. Even the guitar store told me that the Jazzmaster would be a somewhat high-maintenance guitar, which concerned me. If I can get the money together this year, I would be much more likely to go for the J model. Not crazy about the color, but it’ll do.

Skatersonic2002 – did you really get it free with the album? That’s the free 7" that comes with the album isn’t it? This is a separate 7" release – where are you writing from. I apologise if you did and aren’t in the UK or something. But in the UK the free 7" which comes with the vinyl has I Got Lost/Lightning Bulb/What If I Knew and Yer Son on it.
This 7" is of Crumble and Yer Son.
Cheers
The US vinyl version of Beyond comes with a 7" that has the last 3 songs on the CD + "yer Son". I pretty much bought the vinyl for this 7" too, and think "Yer Son" is a pretty good song. Plus, the vinyl sounds much better than the CD.
I listened to the vinyl of Beyond for the first time last night – while the mix (and the bass) isn’t noticeably different, it sounds much crisper and "nuanced" (for lack of a better word) than my CD. I was impressed, and pleased that I bought it. The guitar solos, in particular, seem to scream out more than on the record. Also, it was cool to hear "Yer Son," which is a good song.
I just got a copy of Beyond on vinyl. It’s an American release on Fat Possum and comes with a 7" of What If I knew b/w Yer Son. Didn’t know this was even out in the US. Sorry if this is old news now.
Yeah, I’m no big fan of RS either, but they did mention Dinosaur quite a bit on the run up to Beyond, featuring "crumble" as some track to look out for and covering the band in the studio last fall. There were some other mentions, which surprised me at the time that such a magazine would care so much about Dinosaur Jr at this point in time.
Well, if someone can put them up there, we would all love to hear them. Demos are conspicuously absent when it comes to Dinosaur Jr.
The Sub Pop 7" version of "The Wagon" is a different version from Green Mind, and definitely worth checking out. That’s what really made me into a Dinosaur Jr fan.
I’ve liked Sebadoh since III, but had it on cassette so some songs got lost, but after replacing it with the reissue CD, I LOVE it. I like various songs from other Sebadoh CDs, but think that as entire albums, they are too uneven (III doesn’t have that problem, though).
Back in April 1993 Sebadoh played a show at a nearby college (Swarthmore College) and the band started out amazing, but less than 2 songs in a security guard came and cancelled the show because the students organizing it didn’t get the appropriate permits. Bummer, because Sebadoh live were shaping up to be something far more intense and interesting than some of the albums.
Anyway, III is the way to go when it comes to Sebadoh.
I had another Dinosaur Jr dream just last week – I was at a party in a gymnasium; there were people standing around, some were smoking cigarettes, others were watching some sort of sporting event in the gym,, when I noticed J Mascis standing there as I tried on this horrible yellow cotton sweater. "Hey, I really like your new album," I said to him, "It’s really good." He said thanks, and then when I looked again he was gone, and my reaction was that, omigod, he had probably come into this somewhat lame party to get away from all the people who were saying that to him, and I was totally embarassed.
Ha, ha, ha – I was thinking about a thread about Dinosaur related dreams recently. Last fall I had a dream that I was in the middle of a zombie movie, and all these people were shooting zombies with shotguns. J Mascvis was there and would strum a guitar really quickly and a burst of energy would come out and destroy the zombies. It was very cool. Now I see a commerical on TV for a vidoe game which looks amazingly like this dream, with bolts of energy coming from a guitar. Gotta go, more later.
No Bones, definitely.
