Both the "Little Fury Things" video and the 1986 live Dinosaur footage are, in fact, on FreeSoFree in the video section.
Anyway, I looked deeper into this…
The "Little Fury Things" video was released commercially on a VHS compilaton called "Underground U.S.A. #5" in 1989.
The 1986 live Dinosaur footage was probably shot at UMASS in Amherst MA sometime before Dinosaur went on tour with Sonic Youth for a couple weeks during their EVOL tour. There is speculaton that this footage was shot for a cable access TV broadcast, but that is truly just a guess.
Now, both of these items were available on a certain tape trader’s list back in 1993. (I’ll refer to the trader as "PH"). In fact, the LFT video and the ’86 footage are on his VHS tape in that order. PH and I were unable to re-connect with the original person who traded this tape to PH, but we are guessing that the ‘promo’ VHS release idea is unlikely. We are pretty positive that unknown person who prepared this tape for PH probably compiled the LFT video and the like ’86 footage together.
Anyway, it’s remarkable that someone had this ’86 footage for all of us to enjoy. But I never thought it was a good idea for some record store guy to make a profit when the band gets $0. And as greedy as a person I am, I’ve never sought to get money for any live shows that I received/taped myself – cuz that just wouldn’t be fair to the people making the music.
I think you’re referring to the footage of them from 1986 or so, doing 5 songs (4 from YLAOM and 1 from DINOSAUR). I really doubt the band ever sold this. It started circulating thru tape-trading vines back in the mid-90’s. It even got into the hands of greedy-sonsabitches who sold it in their record shops for $20 as a mere bootlegg.
Really nice review. I share the same sentiments re: the band/reunion/live experiences. Wish I could voice mine as well as you do.
Although excited by the idea of them writing new songs, I gotta say I hope they pick a good cover song to include. All the Dinosaur covers so far have been brilliant, esp. Just Like Heaven. Either way, cover or no cover: outstanding that all this reunion has happened! (Quite the model for any possible Husker Du or MBV re-activity).
I found out Witch did not appear as special guest on this bill. Sorry if I lead anyone to believe they might be playing. Did anyone go? Just curious what DID go on as special guests that night.

somebody tape this!!
Ah yes, POLEDO… I recall Sebadoh/Lou solo playing part of POLEDO live (the portion Lou later titled TOLEDO). But I’ve never heard the first part of POLEDO played live. I wonder if he’ll play the Koko POLEDO version with ukelele, as it was done originally.

WOW!, that’s pretty shocking that they played DON’T. Did Lou hand off his bass and take up the mic into his hands and wail his vocal chords? I wonder what made them play it – even back in the early days, it was seldom played live (only 2 times to my extreme-Dino-geek-knowledge).
They must play SLUDGEFEAST on Late Late
Yeah, looks like this could be the first Dino re-union live appearance. Since Barlow’s tour ends about a week before the Spaceland 4-16-05 show, it gives the trio some time to practice in LA (Lou’s home-turf). Whoever goes, consider yourself immensely lucky – even if Dino doesn’t play as "special guest", the Supreme Dicks are legendary and are not to be missed!
