you said that you would not love me last summer
and you said that you would not love me last spring
but i hoped you would change your mind by autumn
especially when i bought that diamond ringbut you still said ‘no’
you wouldn’t have me
you still said ‘no, no no’i heard that you’ve been sleeping with your old friends
and i heard when each one left
and broke your heart
i told you then that i never leave you
and i told you that i loved you from the startbut you still said ‘no’
you would not have me
you still said ‘no, no no’even though you haven’t got any answers
you still think you dont need any one
to save you from the mess you’ve created
even when i gave my only sonbut you still said ‘no’
you wouldn’t have me
you still said ‘no, no no’

‘diamond ring’May 13, 2002 at 8:30 pm in reply to: Flaming Lips / Modest Mouse / Cake / De La Soul Tour Dates.. #69823Hey Allison,
Saw seBADoh on the MABD tour and Lou wisecracked that this was the first time Sebadoh played in Columbus in 8 years and everybody broke into cheers. Not sure if they were cheering that they hadn’t played here since 1991 or that they were finally back. Anyways they stunk it up pretty bad. Their setlist from that night had ‘Poledo’ as the last song, but they never played it. Only reason I know is that they had the whole video camera on stage thing, projecting onto the backdrop things going on (that the Lips used for their ‘phone it in’ drummer).

it does not matter to me, though it seems like it should – pedro the lionQuest – Palace / Oldham
Not the Same – My Bloody Valentine
Freak Scene – Guided by Voices
Water – Grandaddy
Sludgefeast – Trans AmI’ve just got all these weird images in my head right now. Bob Pollard slurring the chorus to Freak Scene while hitting audience members with leg kicks and microphone swings. A heavily distorted version of Water with robot voices. Hearing Oldham moan ‘And Bugggggggggs have feelers jussssst like me….’. The outro to ‘Sludgefeast’ being a techno-boogie.

May 13, 2002 at 5:57 pm in reply to: Flaming Lips / Modest Mouse / Cake / De La Soul Tour Dates.. #69820The Lips dont play in Pittsburgh that often either. Pretty strange considering a lot of the Coyne (lead of the Lips) clan is from Pitt.
For local Pittsburgh modest-mouse rip-offs / cover bands, check out ‘Cattle Trap’.
I have reservations about these multi-headlining bills. I saw the MABD tour with the Lips, Sebadooh, Robyn Hitchock and Sonic Boom and none of them played particularly well. A friend from Pittsburgh told me that Sebadoh got booed off stage after 2 songs
-Jamie, wanted a Speak n Spell after seeing Sonic Boom

I completely forgot about that song! Does anyone have an MP3 of it?!?!?What does everyone think of the Bowie cover that Dinosaur did.. Quicksand?
I barely classify it as a cover since it has about 50% different lyrics and J’s version seems a lot more light-hearted.
Every Cure fan I’ve ever known that has heard ‘Just Like Heaven’ thinks it’s a disgrace to Robert Smith. I thought I remember reading once that he (Smith) heard it and was into it?

Would love to hear what you heard back from your (possibly mine too?) congressman.
For some background info, I believe the bill Kurtz is talking about is CBDTPA.
There’s an introduction to it by the sponsor (Senator Hollings – South Carolina -D) here:
http://www.politechbot.com/docs/cbdtpa/hollings.cbdtpa.release.032102.html
I think the D stands for Disney, not Democrat. Notice how the bill sounds like it’s for promoting broadband and digital television. Which it is I guess… By controlling what anyone can do with it. Basically it’s forcing electronic makers to cripple their products since the movie and music industry can’t get their collective heads out of their arses.
Mmmmm america.

Cat Power does an unrecognizable cover of ‘Satisfcation’ by the Stones. I think she was aiming for that, but it’s AWFUL in my opinion. The Stones aren’t/weren’t about slow, gloomy songs.
Sebadoh has done an awful medley of ‘Kill Yourself’ by Pussy Galore, ‘What’s Going On’ by Husker Du and ‘Catholic Block’ by Sonic Youth. I will never get back those 8 minutes of my life.
And finally Pavement did a pretty awful version of ‘Something’ by the Beatles. I can never listen to that song.. I just hear SM going ‘wah wah wah wah’ over the whole song.

Hey Todd,
Welcome to the boards. I know several bands dont play in Pittsburgh because the owner of one of the smaller venues is a flat out racist. (Electric Banana).
Milvale Industrial Theater also closed which is another possible venue down the drain.
If you haven’t already, check out local Pittsburgh native Karl Hendricks (Trio / Rock Band) for some tunes that are very Dinosaur-like. He doesn’t have the same vocal sound, but the guitar / song structure is very, very close.
-Jamie, shoulda moved to Pittsburgh after graduation
I think I’m about 6 months late on this thread but the female vocalists/bands I really like are:
Come / Thalia Zedlek
Tara Jane O’Neil
Mary Lou Lord
Jodi from the Secret Stars
Scrawl
Liz Phair
Chan Marshall
Aislers Set
Sarge
Juned
Clutterand if you count some of the Versus songs and My Bloody Valentine whispers.
Like a few other people have said, I really dont find myself listening to bands with girls singing much. It’s nothing intentional, and based on the list above I have quite a few CDs of girl-fronted bands, but I just dont find myself going out of my way to listen to them. Can’t explain it.

you can do a basic install with just the .iso of disc 1. i think the rest of the discs are mainly ports and window managers.
i can never get x-windows set up properly through the install app. it detects my mouse, then changes the screen resolution and then goes black. yum.

I cant remember for the life of me if it’s Goo, or ..Love, but whichever has the Teenage Riot video will allow us to see J attack Lou with his guitar for about 2 seconds in digital goodness

I just bought these records last Friday:
Versus / Hurrah – I really, really like it. Anyone have an idea of a next album to pick up by them? I’m going to see +/- in a few weeks, which is Versus-related according to the show promoter.
Labradford/Fixed::Context – I’ve been listening to a bunch of instrumental stuff lately and didn’t have any Labradford stuff, so I thought I’d give it a listen. Good ‘work’ music. Not too distracting.
Rachel’s/Handwriting LP – I saw Rachels and the Shipping News a few weeks ago and I’ve been picking up their stuff left and right. See above comment about instrumental stuff.
Pedro the Lion/Control – His most raw album to date. 11 songs about a character who just can’t be faithful, no matter what he does. Has one of my favorite lyrics of the year so far: ‘i could never divorce you / without a good reason / but it’s good to have options’.
Flaming Lips/Yoshimi – Okay, so it’s downloaded, but it’s another step closer to perfection for Wayne and crew. If you think the ‘Soft Bulletin’ couldn’t be improved upon, you may want to think again. Amazing.
Hey Jamclark,
You’re an idiot. Why don’t you use Google?

I haven’t tried out the software, but it appears to be trojan free from the get-go. Instead of running Ad-Aware after the dirty install.

One of the guys in Big Muck (Chris Thickins) used to be on the Dino mailing list and I’ve got some solo tapes he recorded and he’s a dead ringer for J Jr. Awesome, yet somber songs. Take J + Rivers Cuomo + Evan Dando. I can upload the MP3s if anyone is interested.3 more hours until I hit the record shop,
-Jamiethis is so sad to admit, but I have:

Long Sleeve Underwear Logo (blackish grey)
WoaS Chimpunk (Black)
WoaS Kids w/ Guns (White)

The coolest thing I have (besides the neon yellow cow golf ball and the 6×4 foot JayLouMurph poster) is a navy blue Dinosuar Jr hat that just has the cow on the front and says ‘Dinosaur Jr’ on the back above the adjusty thingy. Simple but awesome.
