RIAA = Recording Industry Artists of America I believe.
They’re the nazi-eqsue music ‘trade association’ that makes sure americans pay $18 for new CDs, can never use any type of file-sharing software legally, and most recently sell defective CDs that have crackles and pops when extracted to MP3s. I believe they’re funded by the 6 major labels (Sony, Universal, AOL/WB, etc..). The RIAA is who went after Napster, MP3.com, Gnutella, and so forth.
I actually have a cease-and-desist letter from the RIAA circa 1998. They were so concerned about people trading analog copies (tapes!) of live concerts. It’s really unfortunate that they spent a whole year trying to threaten people to stop *trading* things that could never be purchased in a store. Heads up their asses as usual…

Let’s see I have:
600+ CDs
~100 7 inches
~100 LPs
~500 Live CDRs
~700 Live tapes
~125 Live pavement shows -Jamie, will be renting music storage space by age 25
I’ve never really thought of Dino Jr / Mascis music as depressing. It’s something I usually listen to when I’m bummed out about things. I don’t know if I’m looking for sad music, or if it’s just the whole ‘I shall listen to something I can relate to’ vibe.
However, there are quite a few songs that I think are at least ‘sad’ sounding…. Here’s my listing:
Over Your Shoulder
Not the Same
Anything from the Gas Food Lodging soundtrack
Keeblin
Forget It
Quest
AloneAnd to deviate a little bit, here are some of the dino songs that always bring a smile to my face:
Feel the Pain (images of the video flash in my head)
Tarpit
Nothing’s Going On
Whatever’s Cool With Me
Keep the GloveThat’s it, back to writing crippled SQL statements.
-Jamie
working the casino floor
scratching at the corner store
a camera crew at my front door?

-pedro the lionI can’t really seem to hear any Eddie Vedder in Mr. Smog. Even on slower/acoustic Pearl Jam songs, like the one they used to play on the radio about 5 years ago… Elderly Woman Behind a Counter or whatever… Vedder is *singing*. I rarely hear Bill put much effort into what he’s saying. Even when he does actually sing on songs like ‘Bathysphere’, I dont hear any thing close to Eddie Vedder.
Then again I associate with people who claim that Will Oldham sounds like a dog that was shot, so who knows.

pearl jam never did it for me
they had the long hair and bullshit going on
i know who was into flannel before them…
-sebadoh ‘gimmie indie rock’I can’t think where I read this, or if my mind is playing tricks on me, but I think someone asked J about the whole love child thing in an interview, and J replied something to the effect of:
–
It wasn’t actually me, it was HR from Bad Brains who had the japenese love child. They don’t know if it’s his or not though yet.
–This kinda jives since Dinosaur never played in Japan until 94 I believe.
Again, this is purely my ‘fuzzy memory’. Speaking of the dad mascis, i think his appearance in the ‘Whatevers Cool With Me’ video has got to me the coolest cameo by the dad of a rock star

Hey Nige:
If you didn’t care for the live album, I can’t agree with Salami’s suggestion of ‘Perfect From Now On’. Check out ‘There’s Nothing Wrong With Love’. It’s usually about $3 or $4 USD cheaper too.

Hey Everybody,
Thanks for the warm welcome. It’s like old times on the majordomo list.
Mattman: Good to see you’re alive and kicking. I saw someone that looked very, very much like you at a GBV show earlier this year.. I wrote it off as a coincidence. Was it? Is it true you hung out at a Dairy Queen in Illinois with a girl we both know?
Jasper: Hey, how’s it going? How goes the Euro? Holland is in on it, right?
AGAP: Nice to meet you. Don’t worry, soon you’ll be wishing I’d shut up already.
Kurticus: Do you goto Ohio State?
Jeremiah: Great to see that the web page has turned even more interactive. If you ever want to bitchslap me around and get me to do the lyrics / tabs / discography page for you, just holler. Thanks for the condolences… 2 years and the fact I didn’t bolt Ohio for greener pastures after graduation doesn’t mean crap to a girl I guess
-Jamie, so bitter he’s sweet
AGAP,
I completely forgot about those stickers that came with the Quest EP and the Out There singles. Those are great!
I’ve got a bunch of really weird dino-artifcats. Golf balls with the cow logo on, Green Mind air fresheners, almost all (at least 10 of the) t-shirts, and so forth. I should retrieve my digital camera from my friend and take some pictures of the oddness.
Skipping out early today,
-Jamiethis is a pretty well-known song, but it’s simplicity is oh so true even though i love this band to this day, i wish they’d still put out songs like this, instead of 8 minute noodlefests

saturday i jotted down some words i thought
all about a girl that i thought i loved
told the story of what we did
and what went wrong
you’ve heard it all before
it’s the same old shitso i wont bore you with all the details
i’m sure that you can listen between the lines
i screwed her, and she screwed me
but we never once had sex
all we ever had was too much timelove is just a joyride
drink a lot of beer and climb inside
lay your foot down on the gas
leave it there until you crash
love is just a joyride
drink a lot of beer and climb inside
lay your foot down on the gas
leave it there until you crashthis part of the song is called the second verse
sounds just like the first verse
but with different words
it only has 3 chords
and they are A… E… and D…
then it goes to D minor..
then ummm A… E… and D…love is just a joyride
drink a lot of beer and climb inside
lay your foot down on the gas
leave it there until you crash
love is just a joyride
drink a lot of beer and climb inside
lay your foot down on the gas
leave it there until you crash
love is just joyride….
-JamieHowdy Everybody,
My name is Jamie and I used to be on the blank.net / y!groups mailing list, as well as running the negelected Turnip Farm (which is now back up at

I’ve been listening to the ‘Saur since the summer of 1994. They were the first ‘rock show’ I went to on the Without a Sound tour, and for the next 5 or 6 years I was a serious hardcore fan. Then in 2000, my passion for their music sorta died down. I never woke up and said ‘this sucks’ or even ‘i dont like this anymore’. I just started listening to different music. I was also involved in a really good relationship and the need to find gloomy music wasn’t quite there, like it had been before.
But needless to say the pure evilness of chicks has brought me back J and Co. So now, I’m back to my old self.. Listening to Dino Jr, Sebadoh, Smog, Palace and Built to Spill. I also found my ‘car copy’ of the Quest EP, and I listened to that on my way over to Illinois a couple weekends ago.
And that’s about it. I’m always up for email and all that jazz. Hope everyone has a stellar 2002.

They always roll through Ohio, play in some college town, and then I find out about it days later.
Scrawl might no longer be together? Their drummer moved to Sweden, and the lead lady (Marcy Mays) has been doing some solo piano performances set to silent movies. Interesting. I’ll refrain from making a Cat Power comparison.
I think Spoon, Scrawl and the Archers of Loaf need to get together and throw a big ‘Elektra had their heads up their asses’ party All 3 were dropped almost immediately after their best albums were released.
