"just grow your hair down
in your eyes,
you’ll make a million, that’s all right."

That’s not Neil! So the first lines may have been no more than a quote in Neil’s honor. Right?

Dinosaur Jr. – Where You Been. Nirvana’s Nevermind had already made a lasting impression, but Where You Been really opened my eyes. Who knew that music could be this good?

From the aforementioned bio:
quote:
He now lives mostly in Amsterdam, in self-imposed exile, and shies away from the music press.

Whoa! To think that J was living so close to me all this time! Seriously, who made this up? Everybody knows J recorded "More Light" at his home in Amherst.

As for the "show" — it’s simply the "In Session" cd that was released by Strange Fruit in 1999, right? (Great performances, most definitely, but I think that most of us already own that album.) The track listing is:

In A Jar
Leper
Keep the Glove
Budge
Bulbs of Passion
Raisins
Keeblin’
No Bones
Does it Float
Get Me

The notes about Dinosaur Jr. from Byron Coley that came with this cd are pretty cool, why don’t you use those?

Thanks for the link, Allison. Cool interview. I hadn’t read it before.

Even if that’s true, why would that be the criterion to decide who is the better guitar player?

Very hypnotizing:

"It’s twice as hard to fool us.
It’s twice as hard to fool us…"

Wait. I just realized that I’ve tried to say something about Schopenhauer before, in what might have been the single most interesting discussion on this board ever, right here. It seems that this discussion is somewhat related to that one.

Sad? Yes. Most of J’s songs seem to deal with loneliness, heartbreak and unhappiness. It’s in the lyrics — "there never really is a good time / there’s always nothing much to say" is only one of countless possible examples — in his melancholy guitarsolo’s, in everything.

Depressing? No. As seems to be the case for most of you, his music does not depress me. It makes me feel better when I listen to it. As sad music tends to do.

Why is that? Arthur Schopenhauer had a beatiful theory about this fact… Let me get back to you as soon as I’ve done some studying.

"Puke + Cry"

How about it?

A classic, because I was just listening to the acoustic version of "Severed Lips" on Quest:

"I won’t cry if you walk by,
but if we both kinda stumble,
maybe I’ll say ‘hi’.
That’s my best, I never try that much,
because I’m scared of feeling
that appealing touch."

Yes, we are. And according to our politicians, we even are World Champion of the Euro Introduction tournament. A position we’d all gladly give up just to go to the World Championship soccer this year, I’m sure. Sigh.
