It’s just that americans need time to think when speaking, so like is like a comma, it gives their brain a breathing space.

In the interview in Rock magazine out now, J states categorically that he does not do drugs and drinks very little. Just because he speaks in a stoner drawl doesn’t make him a drug taker. It was actually Murph that got carted off to rehab because of too much pot smoking.
I rented a copy from Amazon. On my TV J was pretty much inaudible. Guitar solos overlength, J never did know when to stop when playing live, and not enough variation in the solos. I do love Js guitar playing, but some light and shade would have been nice. I found myself, as I often do at Dino live gigs, having my attention wander during yet another solo. At least Lou’s bass was clear on this recording and not down in the sludge. The rickenbacker buzz coming through nicely. Star of the show has to be Murph playing his arms off. I appreciate that the recording was made over a few gigs but the transition is badly handled, the clothes the band wearing (apart from Murph) giving it away. I would have preferred the illusion of it being one gig. Not a bad film though, shame it was made before the new album. The old songs do sound very old now, but then I’m no teenager myself I suppose.
rare to see a properly shot multi camera job with professional editing
is there more of this concert footage about?

Bevis Frond is basically Nick Salomon, a 50 something guitarist, singer/songwriter who has a lot in common with J. He is a superb guitarist, fond of long solos, he is pretty much a one man band, and he has a lot of hair. Unlike J he is very prolific, having brough out many many albums on his own label. A bit ‘difficult’ he managed to blow his chances at the big time when the chance came some years ago.
I recommend the album Valedictory Songs which sort of documents this, with the song ‘can’t feel it’ about mixed emotions on a US tour ending in a blistering 5 minute guitar solo. I am a bit surprised that J has heard of Bevis Frond but the thought that J and Salomon might actually play on the same stage is something else indeed. To my mind they are equals in skill and would push each other to new heights.
Salomon has his own internet radio show, where he plays interesting stuff from his massive album collection. Perhaps thats where J found him?
Mind you, Camber bloody Sands? What a desolate hell hole. It used to be an Army gunnery range.
