That was a pretty great show. I definitely don’t think it could have been louder, but then again I was standing right in front of Lou (next to Kracked) and he had turned one of his monitors towards the crowd and pretty much directly towards my left ear, so I can’t really judge… No earplugs either, but that’s how it goes. Really tight set and the band really did seem to be having a lot of fun and much more interactive with the crowd. The encore’s were really tight and it was one of the better shows. Much better sound at Higher Ground than a place like Pearl St. (I almost always hate going to a show at PS, the sound there is never anything better than terrible no matter what…)
Yeah I figured as much. I mean it wasn’t a problem I just wasn’t sure if it was just cause I was being assaulted with the music up front, or if it was PS (honestly I don’t like seeing shows there the sound bounces off the walls and it gets really muddled). Not completely hearing the vocals didn’t take any enjoyment away from the show that I had. Had it been as loud as I was first expecting I woulda moved back, but it wasn’t too bad and it was fun being that close.
It really was a great show. I though the sound was pretty bad for the first half with the vocals buried and almost inaudible, but the music was excellent. The vocal problem might just have been me cuz I was pretty much right in front of J slightly towards the middle of the stage, and that might have negated hearing a good amount of vocals. It was a great show and I was really glad to hear "Lose" also the encore of "In A Jar" was about one of the better ones I’ve heard, I was sorta yelling/suggesting that one during encores. It was a really good show, I enjoyed it a lot, and luckily I’m not as deaf as I thought I was gonna be!
I’m a really big Barlow fan be it Sebadoh, Sentridoh, Folk Implosion, and whatever he’s done. Some of the stuff is just so amazing. I really really love III it’s an amazingly excellent record. I was so happy when I found a used copy of it (was out of print untill this new re-issue) as I have only seen 2 used copies in about 4 years of looking in stores. Bubble and Scrape is really good as well. I don’t like Bakesale as much as the others, but it’s still pretty good. Great band though, and Lou is just an amazing songwriter.
"King Tubby " wrote:"BetteDavisLies " wrote:I was hoping the Boston show at the Avalon from last July would be on there.. My husband and I were right at the front. Some drunk kept bashing my head into the guardrail. When he was finally removed, it was the best show ever. The place was packed and everyone was really excited. There was something about that night..I remember a lot of cameras filming then and there were a lot of crowd shots. I am sure my bruised figure is somewhere on those tapes.
Yeah.. this DVD will be awesome.
It’s funny…..out of the three summer shows I saw (Noho, Central Park, and Boston) I thought the Avalon show was the weakest. Not at all a bad show, just not as focused and forceful as the other two. Central Park was truly amazing, yet I don’t recall having seen any video-ing going on, unfortunately. Both Irving Plaza shows in December easily topped all three summer gigs in my opinion, so I’m hoping lots of footage from those will make it on the dvd.
It’s bizarre how the story of what this dvd is going to consist of keeps shifting like the Bush administration’s rationale for invading Iraq: first it’s going to be a compilation of the summer gigs, then it’s going to be the Irving Plaza shows, then it’s going to be mainly one of the Middle East shows, then it’s going to be a comp of all the December shows, then……
I just wish they’d get the damn thing out already.
Were you the guy who got in a fight with that guy? I was right up there and he was pissing a bunch of people off.
May 21, 2006 at 6:36 pm in reply to: I saw J played on Mark Mulcahy’s album, but also in Allman B #117536J did indeed play the entire White Album at a day long festival of Western Ma. bands playing Beatles albums from Please Please Me to Abbey Road, if memory serves me correct. I missed this show, because it sold out in about a week and 2 months in advance, but it did indeed happen.
I see what you are saying. On this last tour he did play those 4 songs all the time, but the show I was at he did about 8-9 Du songs title, about 5 Sugar songs, and like 3-4 of his new record. It was primarily Du songs and not his solo things. I’m sure he has ill feelings towards the songs he wrote around 20 years ago, as well as who he played with. He’s bitter, yes. Maybe he thinks his songwriting got better, and to him it probably did as it was what he wants to do. He did do a lot in his acoustic ones too. But I do understand what your saying.
I don’t think Bob Mould really looks down on those Husker songs seeing as his lives shows are always nearly 2/3 Husker songs of his. I mean I don’t blame you for not liking a lot of Mould’s solo stuff, or possibly is attitude (I don’t know about it, so I can’t comment) but he definitely doesn’t look down on his Husker songs, or that band. Sure he still hates Grant, but he plays mostly Du songs in concert and that has always been the case.
Wow… Yeah if you knew anything about the history of Dinosaur Jr. and are a fan as you claim how in the world could you be dissapointed????? This would be like if Sebadoh re-united with Gaffney and they didn’t play anything after Bubble and Scrape, I think most anyone at that show would expect that and not be dissapointed if they were a fan of this band. I mean if this was like a reunion of J, Mike Johnson, Murph (or Don Fleming or whoever drummed on those later records) then you should have expected to hear that stuff played. Quite frankly that wasn’t what this reunion is, and there is no reason at all for Lou and Murph to play stuff they never played on, or have no connection to…
Would you have to buy from the venue on that date, or over the computer via an agency? I just need to know so I can get on ticks for Boston right away!
April 5, 2005 at 11:28 pm in reply to: Channel Four Teletext interview with J – 5th April 2005 #108399Fun read! I’m still really hoping that this thing works out in Europe and they can few shows over here. Hopefully things that have only been slightly mended hold up and only good is to come. I’m sure both J and Lou have learned a few things in the past 15+ years to at least co-operate. I’m sure they’ve both grown a bit and lost some of the anxiety that was present. Lou is actually a fairly decent guy from as far as I can tell, and it’s been a while for him to learn and grow. I’m sure the same can be said for J. Lets hope for the best, cuz if they come back to Western Ma. my dreams will come true!
I just hope the shows in Europe go well and they prove they can play together enough to have them decide on a tour here in the States. That would be incredible if it happens, I can’t even think of how great!
but then again I don’t know what you might be talking about, so I’m easy to ignore!
uh, if we are going by astrological signs here, Lou is a Cancer seeing as he was born on July 17th

The Evens- S/T
Hella- Church Gone Wild/Chirpin’ Hard (Interesting 2 CD’s, kind of neat and crazy)That’s all that I’ve heard this year besides the re-issues and Barlow’s "Emoh"
