I just saw the greatest unknown punk/glam/metal joke band. They are called "Cold Slither", named after the CObra band from Gi Joe. They kicked off their first world tour at the Brick House Cafe in historic downtown Warren, PA. Their Lead singer was getting his game face on at my resturant beforehand and we serve a pretty strong drink so after a few gin and tonics he was ready to go. The opening band was "Charlie Brown gets a Valentine", I think they are from DC, they are punk and good at what they do, but the crowd wanted cold slither. THey opened with the COld Slither Theme song, which mezmorized and hypnotized legions of Slither heads in the cartoon days. Joe, lead singer, was double fisting Yingling Lagers thoughout the first set, which turned out to be the only set. He kept lying down on stage and after a thrilling rendition of "Terrible night of the Gorilla" he stood up and walked off stage proceeding to pass out in the coridour leading to DJ booth area. Several die-hard fans woke him up a bit later and got him to mumble through VYI and Maneater, yes a Hall and Oates cover. The highlight was probably boy with a hook in his head, or Masters of the Universe, their tribute to He-Man. THe next and only stops on the world tour are Columbus and Cleveland, so if you are an Ohio native I’d get to this show. Also pick up either or both of their fine albums, Major Blood and Mount Rockmore.

A band of Vipers playing their tunes…

…alright, I changed up the topic name. Didn’t even realize there was an "I just saw" thread. Different area, but the simularity killed me. I’ll probably change it again, now that I know how to do such a thing.

I watched the lakers fall with my own eyes. I didn’t hear them lose as I watch most sporting events with the sound off and music on. I’m no tv fan, although I do have a few guilty pleasures that happen to be tv shows. I think soprts commentary is one of the worst represented jobs in the department of quality.

I hate every team left in the NBA play-offs. My little sister is a Mavs fan. She is in love with Steve Nash. So, I guess I’ll pull for them.

Some commercial came on tonight at work and it started with the opening to "Heroin" by the Velvet Underground. They never got past the guitar intro part, but it was enough to make me wish I was not listening to sit-com re-runs in a hot as all get out kitchen. I wanted to run home and grab that nico disc and properly listen to the song. I think it was a car commercial or something.

I know this is going to sound a little cheesy but I would like to see a little Ani difraco

There is nothing cheesy about Ani DiFranco.

I wouldn’t mind hearing a good version of "Untouchable Face", but if I preformed it then it probably would be a bit cheesy.

Seriously, Ani rules and welcome to the boards Mistresss :)

That’s like my favorite Tribe Called Quest song. They have like the best hip-hop group name.

                          Soild mix.

                          Tubthumping???

Someone donated that cd when I was working at Goodwill. This kid I worked with named Deiter was German and he had never heard that track. I played it for him and he wasn’t a bit impressed. It is crazy catchy but a bit cheesey…

It probably works considering order and all…

                          I dig

I just saw the Lakers talkin’ trash and it was disgusting.

I’m a basketball fan. I have no favorite team because everytime I pick one they end up trading my favorite players and them they draft kids from Duke, who I hate and then I can’t root for them anymore. I have no geogrphical choice, I guess I’m pulling for the sixers being in PA and all. Iverson is a warrior.

Back to the Lakers, they tick me off. Any team with 2 of the 5 best players in the league is going to donminate, but when posed wiht the fact that the Spurs beat them 4 games to zero in the regular season, they responded that maybe they’ll have to beat them 4-0 in the play-offs to even it up.

I guess it’s go spurs go, this round at least.

…a look the other way policy on greenminded activities.

But seriously, I’ve figured out how to have fun at Karaoke bars; make up your own words. Last weak I tried it with "Addicted to Love". My sortofband did a rendition of it in college, we improvized all our words and music so I figured I’d have no problem, but I let one of the cooks join me for a duo type deal and he actually looked at the screen and sang the real stuff which through me off. So…this week I stepped up solo.

Under the name likeaghost, which confused the heck out of the DJ guy, I chose Stevie Wonder’s "Boogie on Reggae Woman" and spit my own words. At first it was rough. I had been practicing all weak as I washed dishes at work. All I have is what is in my mind during those hours, so I focused on creating rhymns form thin air. Once I got in the rhythm the words and ideas flowed smoothly. When it was over I put down the micropohone and walked back to my friends table, they were going nuts but I’m not sure how it went over with the general public. I got a few nods and what not, but I don’t wear my glasses out much in bars so I can’t see anything plus I could care less what anyone thinks of me. It’s all about the words, they have already been written a thousand times, I try to arrange them and put them where they need to be…

freestyle, topofthehead stuff is rough when it’s off the cuff

James P. Johnson – King of the Stride Piano 1918-1944

Found this in a scramble bin. It’s on this Giants of Jazz label that usually puts out jazz in an Immortal COncert type series. I have Miles, Mingus, and Rollins additions of this series. This is the first studio Giants of Jazz cd I’ve found but I recomend the series, all of which I’ve found in clarence sections for around 5 dollars.

James P. Johnson was the stride piano king. I guess the title gave that away. The cd is in reverse order with the newest stuff first. The last track is a "Runnin’ Wild" Medley and it is almost 7 minutes of piano maddness through old hits including the Charlestion, which Johnson himself composed, or at least the cd leads me to believe that. Some of the newer tunes are accompanied with light drumming, but for the most part this is solo piano, the most beautiful sounding instrument out there.

"You’ve got to be Modernistic" was his hit, and the only song I heard before buying this disc. I have it on a cd that came with the book to a jazz class I took in school. "Over the bars" is another original that is almost as good as it’s title

His covers include a killer Ain’t Misbehavin and delightful trip through R. Irving’s Eccentricity.

                                  I dig piano.
