Hrmpf .. dreamboat here. Doesn’t make me feel too hot really. Dun even know what to make of it.
September 13, 2001 at 11:05 am in reply to: where the grass is green and the girls are pretty #65109Okies, any excuse for putting work aside for a few mins will do.
I guess I had a little thing for Fairuza Balk after having seen Gas food lodging. Recall reading an interview with her around that same time, and she seemed like a really sweet person. Pity she won’t return my calls anymore really .. and that restraining order was a bit uncalled for I think
Anyways, gotta 2nd allison on Fred Sonic Smith being one pukka guitar player, too bad he’s not around anymore . Same thing goes for Brian Jones of course.
Oh I’m as clueless about rugby as about american football, better ask the english or aussies (if any?) in here about it. It’s not big over here at all. But I agree, looks like a pretty cool sport.

Oh yeah, I gotta mention here that my fav sport alongside football (k, soccer then ) and ice hockey is b-a-n-d-y BANDY! My hometown has a kick ass team, so I’ve always been totally into it. It’s played on ice, but it’s so much faster and more technical than hockey. Hell, hockey players look like seniors feeding doves in the park in comparison. Eh, I sorta got the urge to start a bandy thread right now, but I figure I’d be pretty lonely in there considering it’s only a big sport in Sweden, Russia, Finland and, as of recent days, White Russia and Kazakstan. Well, the USA has a national team, but what can I say, it’s not even a joke. If I recall correctly, Sweden beat them by 21-0 in the latest world cup (and it’s one point per scored goal! :eek Anyways, guess I just gotta put that bandy thread plan aside ’til we get more J fans from the countries I mentioned in here. Hey ELJ and allison, thanks for the info regarding superbowl in general being lamer than regular games, didn’t know that. Only problem is, superbowl is pretty much the only american football that’s being shown on swedish tv. Ironic that it’s gotta cost the channel in question a helluva lot more to show superbowl than those collage and interdivision games you guys were mentioning. Guess it’d possible to get myself some cable sports channel, but I don’t see myself putting down money on it at this point. Don’t have time to watch more tv anyways.

Auch! That’s gotta hurt Okies, I do know it’s called superbowl and not superball :eee:, so there’s no need to laugh here really.

quote:
Originally posted by ELJ:
… I figured someone would emntion soccer before too long. I just wish someone would have started another thread to do it in.

Okies, I guess that someone would be me
. In fact, I feel kinda stupid having dissed american football the day b4 all hell broke loose over there in the states, but who knew .
Anyways, the reasons I refer to real football as football and not that word .. what was it .. hrmpf .. "soccer", are:1. It’s played with a normal spherically shaped ball and not a friggin ellipsoid.
2. The players use their feet to move the ball across the field, rather than using the "ball" as a lame excuse to have a massive group hug over.Well I’m kidding here, I’m sure american football can be hot to watch, but I just never could get into it. I’ve watched a few superballs, but only to end up either bored or drunk. Prolly I just need to learn more about it, that’s all.

Sweet. Well, you’re welcome Javro, give the guy my best. When I was in Rome last year he once waved in my direction after a Lazio victory, so I’m sure he remembers me Cheers, Max

Never been a george w fan here, but I don’t see that he’s been handling the situation badly so far. It can hardly be in america’s or the rest of the world’s best interest to put his life at risk any more than necessary. Surely the last thing we need now is a dead US prez. As for his latest speech, I thought it was straight to the point and not insensitive to the victims and their families at all. Never thought I’d find myself defending the guy, but now I sure hope I’ll be able to do it again, cuz his decisions to come will affect so many peoples lives, and not just in the states.
Just some thoughts from across the pond.

Just want to say that I hope to God that you’re all ok, and that the same goes for those near you. It’s all too fucked to be true.

"I feel the pain of everyone, and then I feel nothing .. "
Just realized that line pretty much sums up the way I feel about this madness.

Well, bärnstensfärgad bourbon means amber colored bourbon, even. Why that would be of any importance I dunno. I’ve heard that album though, and it’s sweet, but in my humble opinion not as great as Mr. Gradvall (who is funny looking little man btw , seen him here in Stockholm many times) makes it out to be.
Cheers, Max
American football .. bah!
Germany-England 1-5 in the world cup qualification, now THAT was football!
But what in God’s name has happened to Holland?! Did they get hold on some bad weed the night before the games? I know there’s some dutch people on here, so help me out on this one cuz I sure as hell dun understand.
Cheers, Max

Am I the only one who liked the last Sonic Youth album??
I don’t think it was that bad, and I specially liked NEVERMIND, RENEGADE PRINCESS and NYC GHOSTS AND FLOWERS.Maybe it wasn’t as good as A THOUSAND LEAVES, but you got to admit that it’s the perfect soundtrack for the worst and darkest nightmare.

I really like NYC ghosts and flowers too. Sure, it’s not intense in the same rollercoaster kinda way as Daydream Nation, but there’s sorta a loose intensity to it that I dig. All tunes are good in my opinion, but I’d have to say that my least fav ones are the ones Kim sings on (sorry Kim!), namely Nevermind (what was it anyway) and Side2side. They just dun do much for me in comparison to earlier stuff of hers.
Anyways, the ending of Lee’s nyc ghost & flowers is just a muthafuckin orgasm of groaning noise, and when Thurston reads the last lines of Small flowers crack concrete, including "plastic saxophones bleat, bleed for nothing, nada", he’s just too kool to be of this world. Call it poetry if u want, but I love it.
Oh, and it’s true, they had a whole friggin truck of guitar gear stolen b4 recording the album, said in an interview that they had to start over sorta like a new band, which they felt was both a blessing and a curse.
Cheers, Max
I dunno this 4 sure, but I think J knows more theory when it comes to drumming than guitar playing. Think I recall him sayin in some interview that he learned soloing by playing along with Stones records. Maybe he knows some theory, but it certainly doesn’t seem like his playing is based on it.
/ maxTotally agree w/george on I’m not fine being the best single choice, cuz it just shred me to pieces the first time I heard it. Should ezily get some new people into J. Sameday would also work as a single, of course, can’t get enough of that one.
And oh, it sure is fucked that a lot of people think of Neil Young as a lame country artist. I mean, although the guy is, what, 55?, he plays the crap outta all younger guitar players of today (which doesn’t say a lot I guess .. *sighs*) except for, well, we all know who I’m talking about cheers, max
Kool idea indeed. Working out to the Stooges’ Funhouse sure as hell would whip me into shape in no time
