Hey Deepsludge, I agree 100% on what u said about tab being just a raw way to get the feel of the thing. Seeing other people’s tabs can be quite useful though, I’ve often figured out tunes to the point where it sounds alright but still lacks something. Getting hold of a good tab can then put the pieces together completely. Whether or not it’s exactly the way J (or whoever) plays it is not too important, if the feel is right, I’m pleased. I’m not too interested in copying leads, guess I find it more fun to just improvise (it may also be bcuz I’m lazy), I mostly just wanna get the chords/riffs straight.

Some sort of subpage to freakscene.

Oh yeah, I would just love this too, though I guess for some songs it would be tough to pick which is the best tab. Often I’ve found that different tabs have different parts of them that seem most accurate, but it should nevertheless be possible pull this off.
Hmm, judgement’s off, gotta go with my first thought .. which would be Death Valley 69, it blew me away first time I heard it, and still does. But then again, that goes for a lot of the others choices too.
Hmm, include ’89 and I’d pick Pixies – Doolittle. Include ’88 too and it’d be Sonic Youth – Daydream Nation. That said, my choice is Pavement – Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
Just thought I’d share this little quote off the epitonic site:

quote:
.. as long as smart kids with challenging things to say can get their hands on noise-making devices, punk rock will endure.

Amen to that![ August 08, 2001 05:10 PM: Message mutated 1 time, lastly by maxini ]
Speaking of country, anyone knows what country artists J’s into? I figure Gram Parsons should be in there 4 sure, but who else?

Sure comes in handy for a european when reading those diaries Just checked out that Buddy Rich rant and it’s hilarious alright I’ve noticed Mike Watt uses the expression "blow a clam" on his tour diaries and now I see Buddy says "clam" too in the same kinda context. Never heard it b4 though (english isn’t my native language), but I figure it means screwing up yr playing in some way. If someone knows more precisely what it means, please tell me, I’m curious.

quote:
‘the universe is shaped exactly like the earth,
if you go straight long enough you’ll end up
where you were…’

Well, with the indications of the reduced energy density of the universe being close to unity, the topology of the universe is still an open question. Besides, even if the universe was closed (like the surface of the earth), the expansion of the thing makes it impossible to end up in the same place by "going straight long enough" unless going faster than light or having more time than eternity. Modest Mouse oughta do some more background research the way I see it.

oh, and there’s no messing with the logic of Black Francis:
if man is 5 if man is 5 if man is 5
then the devil is 6 then the devil is 6 then the devil is 6 then the devil is 6
and if the devil is 6
then god is 7 then god is 7 then god is 7
(Pixies: Monkey gone to heaven)I’m in a Neil Young mood, so here:
well I was chopping down a palm tree when a friend dropped by to ask
if I would feel less lonely if he helped me swing the axe
I said "no it’s not a case of being lonely we have here, I’ve been working on this palm tree for eighty seven years"
He said "go get lost" and walked towards his cadillac
I chopped down the palm tree and it landed on his back
(from The last trip to Tulsa)I saw you in Mercedes-Benz
practising self-defense
(from Stupid girl)Hmm, think I’ll put that last one in my signature while waiting to come up with something even cooler
REM’s Murmur is an awesome debut album. To bad they don’t write tunes like Laughing or Sitting Still no more.
Breathes makes more sense, that’s gotta be rite. Thx for the help.
