I would be happy to return the favor for the Caledonia show and send you a copy of the Smith’s show. I really appreciate you sending that my way. What’s your mailing address? If you don’t want it on Freakscene, drop it into my email: mgreenia@hotmail.com.

I’m an old man already. I just turned 27 on Sunday. I was able to stay wide awake for J, but I otherwise find myself turning toward home earlier and earlier. I have the "pillowtop mattress / 4 down pillows / down comforter" syndrome too. I went to another show at Smith’s last week and had to leave before midnight.

I am hosting Thanksgiving dinner for the first time this year. Mom and Corinna will be coming over and spending the night with me in Atlanta. Have a good holiday and hug everybody for me, even republicans. Happy holidays!

"Stadium sound in a Smith’s-sized room"

That’s how I would sum it up. The Atlanta show was great. They were loud as fuck and the audience was really into it. I was suprised to see Dave playing so loud and rough, it really came across well. Never heard of The Tom Collins, but I’m definitely enamoured of any drummer that’s as hard-hitting as Kyle.

There’s almost no need to go on and on about how great J was. Not to take it for granted, but damn, there’s just too much to say. I’m always pleased with "Out There", while "Ammaring" was on another planet.

I’ve already downloaded and burned Sloan’s wonderful recordings of the show from freesofree.net. You should check it out if you have the bandwidth. Thanks a ton for the Caledonia recordings. That was really cool and I do appreciate it.

My little band is getting into shape and I hope to take it onstage before too long. It’s just me and a bassist right now, but we figure we might meet a drummer if we start playing out more. I cover "Water" and "Out There" sometimes, but we’re not a cover band. Once I think we’ve got something to shout about, I intend to take the show to Athens. I’ll be sure to let you know.

Yeah, we tried to move to the mountains, we tried to move to the beach, but we don’t really have much to run away from these days. Lou finished school in August and has been working out of town. Now i’m just pluggin’ away day by day.

Anyway, I was glad to hear that everything is well with you and the baby. I’ve been spending a little more time on Freakscene lately, so I’ll see you around. Say hey to everybody for me!

          Hey, Stephanie,

It’s Matt Greenia. Congratulations on the new edition / addition to your family! Mom told me that you were expecting soon. I hope all is well with all of you.

Give everybody a hug and say hi to the Athens scene for me. That Smith’s show in Atlanta was great, by the way!

          Later!

            Jayne,

Thanks a ton! Wasn’t that just a great show? I haven’t seen J play that loud since Halloween 1997 at the Metro in Chicago (one of the last Dinosaur Jr shows). I was real impressed with the opener though, i’ll have to check them out again sometime. Thanks for the info!

Does anyone know about the band that opened for J in Atlanta at Smith’s Olde Bar? I think they were called "The Vibrations", but i’m not sure because that’s the name of an old 60’s band. I thought they were really good and I can’t get one of their songs out of my head. I would assume that they are a local Atlanta band. Any info would be helpful, thanks!
