I don’t know of any More Light lim. pressings, but sub pop released a 7" single of Leavin’ on a Jetplane b/w Too Hard a while back on clear orange vinyl…pressing was limited to 1300 copies, as is all of the sub pop singles club pressings. Finally, joining that club paid off!
Sounds like Robert has a sweet ride! I grew up with VW’s. I used to be able to fit in that little compartment between the back seat and rear window in our old beetle! That’s what happens when a family of six likes Volkswagens. About six months ago I sold my ’89 VW Fox with 173,000 miles on it. It was still runnin’ strong but I only put 2,000 miles on it the last year I had it cuz I bought a ’96 F-150 XLT 4×4. A nice truck and I can work that 300 straight six like a dog (I have a small logging operation). Best part is I put a CD player in it so I can crank the Dino!
Welcome to the board from another PA newbie! Where you Been is by far my favorite album (not so much the songs themselves, but the way they all fit together). Enjoy, and don’t forget the old stuff…sstsuperstore has a lot of the old stuff. Speaking of which, I gotta go there and buy some of the older stuff as well…slowly replacing all of my old cassette tapes with CD’s. Why the hell did I wait so long to switch to CD’s?! My entire sonic youth collection is pretty much on cassette…over a dozen of them….DOH!
I see that Watt is playing the Double Door in the 25th…if I wasn’t already committed somewhere I’d consider a road trip. Just checked out his site but can’t find the upcoming tour dates, and judging from the diary he is working his way east. Where can I find the upcoming dates?
Sorry Salami…didn’t see this other page of posts till my other reply was posted. It was actually Eddie Harris and Les McCann, called "second movement"….pretty funky stuff. They did another one together called "swiss movement" which is really good as well. Got a great deal on ebay for a lot of 5 Eddie Harris albums one time.
It was just a matter of time before everyone realized that PA rocks! Glad to see there are some other Pennsylvanians out there. Too bad I didn’t have that email anymore entitled "you know you’re from PA when…" Have you read that? Fire hall weddings, hoagies, chopped ham, pop…oh yes, I love this place.Wireland…Josh is no longer with Arboria, he’s out on his own now. Don’t know what all he does, but I he has a vinyl sale once in a while at a little coffee shop on Allen street. They moved out of the basement years ago *sniff*. Josh sells a lot of stuff on ebay now…pretty sure his ebay handle is "staxofsoul" if you want to check it out. One of the other guys turned me on to nomeansno many years back…and I still think that "live and cuddly" is one of the best live albums I have ever purchased, with the whigs ’98 DC show in the running too (but I didn’t have to buy that one).
Wireland, I was actually referring to City Lights Records…the guys that work there are really great, and they still get a descent amount of new vinyl. Arboria isn’t the same anymore, not since they moved out of that dark, dungeon of a basement…and the people that work there aren’t very friendly anymore (at least not to me or anyone else I know that shops there). Arboria is definitely the place for old vinyl, though. Problem is, they know what it’s worth, and expect an arm and a leg for the stuff. Goodwill is the place to go for vinyl if you get there when the new stuff comes in…got a great Eddie Harris album there for twenty five cents! I must agree about the whigs live as well, that concert in SC was the best live show I had ever been to…they were real entertainers. Dulli doesn’t look too bad in a boa….and I think he was higher than a friggin’ kite when he first came out on the stage…at least we were both in the same state of mind…
I’m definitely enjoying it here so far…nice to hear from some other people with similar tastes. I was really starting to think that this site just didn’t like me. For months every time I entered my birthday and accepted the terms, it said the info was not sent. After this, it would take my birthday info, let me fill out my profile, and then either say the username was already used (and I came up with some weird ones that I KNOW nobody would use), or it would say something like a flood filter was enabled and I should try back later….very strange experience indeed.
Salami…have you ever had the pleasure of seeing the Whigs live? In ’99 I saw them in State College, and saw the Twilight Singers in Philly last year. I have all of the whigs’ albums, including Big Top Halloween on vinyl (don’t ask how much I paid for it on ebay!). That’s kinda funny, cuz I was talking to a guy at a record store in State College and he said they used to have Big Top Halloween on consignment from the band! I guess they played there in the early nineties as well. I also have a copy of it on cd if you would like one, and at least three live shows, and the twilight singers in Boston. Black Love is my favorite…
Anyway, guess I’ll just settle in here, and wait for J to come back to PA…and get a descent spot on the floor next time instead of sucking on those bottles of porter.Downloaded that one a couple of days ago…Thanks! Think I deleted the pic of that guys head from my camera….sorry.
