Pavement and Dino have that similar in your face but laid back essense in their music. I think they are similar in many ways.

The other band which I have yet to see mentioned in this post, but is a ole’ favorite of mine is Firehose – and you gotta have mike watt on bass. Dino and Firehose and the Meatpuppets – a dream triple bill for me.
