i know it might sound crazy … but i’ve heard that song so many times and i never once thought of it as a cowboy/horse song … duh ! … well, i guess we cleared that one up once and for all …

hey plissken … you’re a lucky guy to have been in an audience of 70
to see j play … sounds like you a had a great time …thanks for the review …
and would LOVE to see that video …and thx to you f-c … i never knew there was a photo album here …
silly me missed that somehow … i have a few pix of j too, so when i get a chance i’ll add them in …you’re right … no horse in that song, but definitely v.v.countrified (not really a word, but it seems to fit) … the horse-song mystery continues …

hey allison … the 1st song j played on the peel session was a cover of "i feel like going home" by charlie rich … when j played some records on london’s xfm "hijack" show a few years ago, he played that record.
j said he really liked charlie rich and when he was in dinosaur jr they were on the same label … some guy who worked for their label was going to arrange it so they could meet up with him (d jr and c rich), but he died before that could happen … that’s just a bit of possibly useless trivia for you

sounds like you had a good plan going … if that guy reads this, maybe he’ll take the hint ?

thanks f-c … i’m looking forward to your review of hamburg (is that the only show you’re going to ?)
i’m pretty sure the camcorder guy was working for j … but i don’t know if j had planned it that way (ie the guy irritating everyone and getting in their way w/o any apologies) and you’re right … he was pulling some crazy moves as if he was trying to make it more exciting by moving closer to j and then pulling away quickly — i thought the lens was supposed to do that zoom effect for you … maybe he had a crap camera
maybe he was just a loser !
oh yeah … and i liked the metro better, but that’s just me

that’s a pretty enthusiastic review … thanks fc

yeah !!!! sounds like 2 great shows …
… thanks for the reviewmaybe i should have edited this a bit more b/c it seems a bit lengthy, but this is my review of the dingwalls show
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
my husband and i got there just before 7 … we had stormed over there from our house via 2 buses and some v.fast walking … we were hoping to get there before the doors opened to get a good spot right nr the stage, so we were in a serious rush… but when we got there we found out the doors weren’t scheduled to open until 7.30 (even though the tix said 7), so the security guys (one of whom seemed v.v.stoned !) suggested we all wait in the bar upstairs
i was 1/2 expecting to see j sitting up there, but he wasn’t — or at least i didn’t see him
they finally let us in at about 7.45 … thankfully the security was pretty lax about letting in cameras and also they let us sit on the stage too …
chris brokaw was 1st up at 8.30 … i really liked his instrumental songs and later i read that he’s just brought out an album w/all instrumental music … it didn’t seem like there were that many people paying attention to him except the crowd right up front – and there was a lot of talking background noise … i felt sorry for him b/c it must have been v.distracting, but he did a great job and he thanked people for listening (maybe a sublte dig at those who weren’t?) …
j came on at 9.30 or so and started w/someone said + he was off – charging through the songs with little or no time between them … not to say that he didn’t play them w/feeling, but more like he was an unstoppable one-man hit factory. this was the 1st time he didn’t have a set list (that i’ve ever seen), but like infinate spark pointed out it was the same set as the liverpool show … so i guess he knew it by heart already …
near to the end of the show he asked for a request … kind of … well he said something like, “what should i play nextâ€
no !! you don’t owe my any money … i was just wondering … we were in the front row too right next to the girl w/long red hair (she was there last night too)
and i know what you mean about brighton … we went last year and it was like £85 for a hotel room, plus we had to pay for the bus to get down there and back and the tix and food money … it all adds up !

we really wanted to go again to the brighton show (tonight!!), but we have enough on our credit card already (had to pay for an operation privately b/c the nhs would have taken too long !!! … )
anyhow … we’re looking forward to seeing the stooges tribute thing in a few weeks’ time… and j did say last night, just as he was leaving the stage that he hopes we can all make it there

hey samwise
he played freakscene last night too !!
that was pretty cool … the crowd really seemed to respond to it …we (my husband and i) were saying that he seems to get into a show more when people are more vocal and responsive (ie loud clapping and cheering between songs, rather than just the polite expected response) to what he is playing … lots of people were singing along too … which i thought was pretty cool and sweet too …
i wonder what he thinks of that — does that distract him or does he like it?
hey sophie … that’s great you got to meet j … and those pix are great … i really like his purple shirt … he was wearing the same shirt last night, but in green
my husband and i had a present to give to him, but he went off stage so quickly (both times) that we missed our opportunity … we hung around the club for a while afterwards b/c he was sure to surface again eventually – but in the end we figured that could take hours, so we went home

but when he comes back in december, we’re going to try again !

anyhow … thanks for sharing those photos w/us
hey sludgefeast … were you the guy w/dark hair sitting on the stage at the metro club in sept ??
i wonder what possessed j to perform freakscene live – for the 1st time ever — after all these years ?
it’s pretty cool to see j really get into a song live … he kind of goes into this trance-like state … and then his head starts bobbing all over the place …
sounds like a great show … thanks for the review jasper
