it was awesome … the first time i’ve ever seen them live, but i’ve seen them loads of times on tv and they are one of my favourite bands, so i was really excited … i entered a contest a few weeks back to win tix to the event, but when the guy from sony/bmg phned last week to say we’d won, i was like, ‘yeah, right’ so i was really psyched when the wristbands actually arrived … as the show was in hmv i was a bit dubious about the sound before the show started, but it was really good … and they all seemed really into it … and all the people there were really into it and really excited to be there … which was a refreshing change from the club atmoshpere you sometimes get when people try to out-cool eachother …
anyhow … they came on at 11.15ish + they played for 45 mins or so… they played songs from screamadelica, extrminator etc. rather than just sticking to the current release …
speaking of current releases, the album was released at midnight (when the show ended) + you could buy the album, get it signed + have a chat / take photos etc.
We got Mani to sign his portrait in the stone roses – second coming cd cover … the signing table lineup started with mani + worked its way thru the band – ending with bobby g and of course, boys being boys, they all completely defaced his picture which was a good laugh … my husband john got a few pics with them as well (taken by me) … mani’s pulling a funny face (surprise, surprise) and bobby g + john looked really sombre … i guess b/c i forgot to warn them with a photo countdown or whatever (amateur!) … anyways … bobby lives in our neighbourhood + we said we see him around all the time (even up at the pool), which he thought was kind of funny …
anyhow … i’ve briefly met him before, but this time we had a longer chat + i was really surprised at how softly spoken + really nice he was … he shook our hands + said he’d see us around …
so there you go …
i don’t know about a teddy bear, but mike watt mentioned him having an amma doll back in 2001 … does that help?
great to see kevin shields made it to the manchester show …
