Yea, that is the disc I was thinking of. Those songs are either on tributes, soundtracks, or compilations discs, or they are b-sides or live tracks.
I glanced at ebay and looked for the Other Songs CD and didn’t find it but I think I’ve seen it recently too. If I remeber correctly, the Other Songs CD is just a bootleg compilation of songs J/DinoJr has releases as B-sides and on compilation and tribute albums.
I completely agree. What was with jack white being so high…or being on there at all. He’s good guitarist, but top 200 ever? I too was happy and surprised to see renaldo, moore and sheilds on there. Besides J, someone else I thought should have been on the list was Doug Martsch from Built to Spill.
The following is a press release I recieved from Strange Fruit. Nothing new here but I thought someone may want to read it anyway. Judging by this i assume the official name of the disc is "The John Peel Sessions."

released: 11/8/03Strange Fruit is pleased to announce the release of J Mascis’ John Peel Sessions on 11th August 2003.
Dinosaur Jr were one of the defining bands of the Twentieth Century’s final decade and a half. As their enigmatic frontman and leader, J Mascis made a name for himself as one of the godfathers of grunge (Nirvana supported Dinosaur Jr on their ‘Green Mind’ tour in 1991). The full impact of this is still being realised today with every band influenced by one of the most important guitar genres to emerge from rock’n’roll.
Dinosaur Jr split in 1998 and this album contains solo material that J recorded for the BBC between 2000 and 2002, including his sessions for John Peel and a bonus track for BBC 6 Music. Partly acoustic, some of the material sees J stripped bare (just guitar and voice), performing songs from his solo albums as well as Dinosaur Jr favourites like ‘Freakscene’.
The non-acoustic material sees J joined by Minutemen Mike Watt on bass and George Berz on drums, and is mixed by My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields. The album opens with a stirring medley of covers comprising songs by The Ruts and Pavement.
The full tracklisting is as follows:
1. EVERYTHING FLOWS / RANGE LIFE / IN A RUT (MEDLEY)
2. SAME DAY
3. AMMARING
4. WAISTIN’
5. I’M NOT FINE
6. I FEEL LIKE GOING HOME
7. ALONE
8. EVERYBODY LETS ME DOWN
9. FREAKSCENE
10. IF THAT’S HOW IT’S GOTTA BE (bonus track – BBC 6 Music)The Sub Pop version of The Wagon is 4:40 long while the Green Mind version is 4:53. I checked and this is how the two versions are credited.
Green Mind:
Don Flemming – guitar, backing vocals
Murph – Drums (credited on the single but not in liner notes of Green Mind)
Jay Spiegel – Toms
(I guess J didn’t want to credit himself but I believe he played guitar, bass and did the vocals on Green Mind)Sub Pop Version:
J Mascis: guitar vocals
Murph: right drums
Jay Spiegel – left drums
Don Fleming: guitar, vocal
Donna Briddle: BassTo me the Sub Pop version sounds a tiny bit faster and just sounds a little different to me for some reason or another.
I believe Better Than Gone is original. Don Fleming wrote it. He also played on that track along with The Wagon.
I know this is not a direct answer to your question but I hope it helps.
Thanks kracked873,
That’s really odd. I’m now under the assumption, correct me if I’m wrong, that all The Wagon’s that were put out under Blanco Y Negro were mislabeled, not just thoughs that were distributed in Germany. I just listened to the 7", which I ordered from the label itself in the UK several years ago and sure enough the tracklisting was off.
Just wondering, does anyone have a Blanco Y Negro version where the tracklist actually matches what is on the disc or vinyl?
This is why I appreciate any information as to any inconsistencies or information that may be lacking from my site. I guess I need to get an email address running or something soon.
Thanks Again
Oddly enough I chose the name with zero votes, go figure. But thanks for all your suggestions and compliments on the site. I also want to thank Anthony for his help on the site and for hosting it too.
I just want to get this straight so I can put it up on the site correctly.
The tracklist is printed as:
1. The Wagon
2. Pebbles & Weeds
3. The Little Baby
4. Quicksand (Reprise)But the actual tracklist is:
1. The Wagon
2. Pebbles & Weeds
3. The Little Baby / Not You Again
4. Quicksand (Reprise)This is is the german version by Blanco Y Negro. Am I correct so far? Does anyone happen to have the catalog number for that disc? Thanks
I can’t tell you if J will be making money off of it or not. I would assume they would have to pay him something. The only reason I know that Peel or the BBC or whomever owns the rights to those recordings is because a cousin of mine record with Peel several years back. The band wanted to release it but Peel would not let them. It ended up getting bootlegged.
66 Dinosaur Jr / J Mascis
16 Elliott Smith
12 Nine Inch NailsHere is the correct link to the Stange Fruit webpage http://www.strange-fruit-music.co.uk”>http://www.strange-fruit-music.co.uk .
Ultimatuim is probably not releasing it because they do not own the rights to those recordings. For example, when someone does a John Peel Session, John Peel, or the company/station he works for, owns those recordings and not the artist.
Here is the cover art (official or promo, not sure) and a tracklist (final?, once again not sure).
Thanks!!! I haven’t had time yet to go step by step with your instructions. If I have any problms I’ll let you know. Thanks again.
I think it is just the Where’d You Go video but I could be wrong. I don’t have the disc.
