The first album I ever owned was a ’45 of "Rock Me Amadeus" by Falco, but my mom bought it for me.
The first one I ever bought with my own money (I remember it clearly) was a tape of "Faith" by George Michael. (I’m young, okay?)
I can’t listen to Falco because I am lacking a functioning turntable at the moment. The George Michael tape, however, sounds great despite the fact that it is covered in dirt and lacking a case or insert

RosaThe first cd I bought, when I got the player as a gift, was Tori Amos’ "Little Earthquakes", which had just been released.

hehehe
Hey Mantis,
I gotta know– what’s on the back of the "Life is Full of Choices" shirt?
xo
Rosap.s. anyone else think Matt looks a little like Tim Robbins??
Well, are you more concerned with making money or fulfilling your artistic aspirations (not that they are necessarily two mutually exclusive things)?
Detective Ventriloquist…
You know, I actually ran across that site about a year ago. Never thought I’d hear about it again!
Jeremiah, I’m surprised & delighted to see you’ve become a Wu-Tang fan. Though I must say, I didn’t care for the Bobby Digital album as much as you. Liked "Lab Drunk", but that’s about it. I think RZA makes a better producer than MC, but he gives it a good shot.
Actually, I was fortunate enough to see them last year, on RZA’s birthday– it was the most insane show I have ever been to, and to this day is the only show where I was really afraid for my safety. Not because people had weapons or any crap like that, but just because the crowd was SO enthusiastic. I was front-row, up against a partition that I was sure would either split me in half or collapse. I have never been so crushed in my life.
After the show, I went out to buy a drink; my wallet was in the back pocket of my jeans, and the dollar bills inside were WET from sweat…
But a great show, nonetheless. The guys all had on baseball jerseys that said Wu-Tang across the front, with their names & numbers on the backs. Too cool.

RosaYou guys are too funny….I think you’re reading way too much into the "blob" thing…I think it’s just a reference to the Blob, you know, from the Steve McQueen movie of the same name.
& for what it’s worth, I always thought it was "carless realm", especially because he later asks, "should I leave the engine on?"
just my 2c….that’s how I’ve always sung it.
freshly unemployed & posting way too much,
Rosa

xoTony,
I believe Shadowy Men are indeed Canadian. I have one of their albums somewhere; pretty sure it was recorded in Canada. Do you know them from Kids in the Hall or does your taste just run that obscure?

RosaI am such a softie when it comes to books I loved as a child– still love:
-Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
-ANYthing by Maurice Sendak…especially In the Night Kitchen & Higgledy Piggledy Pop
-Ronia the Robber’s Daughter by Astrid Lindgren
-Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Michael something-or-otherWent through the beat phase in high school; enjoyed On the Road but didn’t care for Kerouac’s poetry. Burroughs was good but a little obtuse for me at 15 or so. Enjoyed Ferlinghetti; thought him to be a little dark at the time, but now I can see bits of humor in his style as well.
Current favorites include:
-When Chickenheads Come Home to Roost, by Joan Morgan….very upfront, ebonic-abundant assessment of the state of black feminism in the U.S.
-Good Faeries/Bad Faeries, by Brian Froud….he designed most of the concepts for Henson movies like Labyrinth & the Dark Crystal….amazing artwork
-Sacred Hoops, by Phil Jackson…autobiography detailing the way he incorporates Zen Buddhism, Native American spirituality, and Christianity in both his personal life and the game of basketball…coached Jordan & the Bulls; now coaches L.A. Lakers
-Notes of a Dirty Old Man, by Charles Bukowski….perfect when you need a chuckle or you can’t sleep at night
…..and speaking of which, it is almost my bedtime
‘night
Rosap.s. add me to the list of Vonnegut fans, but cross me off the Dostoevsky

I have never heard "hoopty" applied to a computer before…too funny…
laughing on the inside
RosaIE is version 5.00
starting to get cranky,
RosaOnce again, tried to connect thru irc, java, dune, and apple once each. Each time it said "Connected, please wait" then "connection close". After it goes thru java, it also adds "java.netSocketException: Socket read failed".
Using Windows 98 & IE. Is it just my computer?
please fix….
RosaMatt,
I’m using a pc (mac=baaaad).
Still keeps booting me out; I’ll look for you later.
Rosa
Nope, no luck.
Heading out the door right now; will try back tomorrow.
Rosa
Matt,
I get the same config but it has only ever worked for me once.
When I hit "connect", it goes through irc, java, apple, and something else (once each), and each time it says "unable to connect with server", then "connection close". And occasionally it will say "you are banned from this network. abuse"
grrrr….any suggestions? It was a fluke that it worked for me on Saturday.
