I’ve seen Alexander Tucker twice now and though I agree with the above post regarding other acts, I think he’s just a poor version of better droney-folk acts like Six Organs of Admittance and such. It would have been better in a smaller venue and sitting down, but like this it was just annoying, especially as everyone was tired from the really long wait outside and then again in the venue.

Writing of the venue though, it was my first time there, probably the only bigger venue in London I haven’t visited and my gosh was I impressed. It’s the most over the top yet amazingly stylish place I’ve ever been to. Being able to see the guys play from so many angles and heights was great. And that red colour is really magical too. Might have to go there for a club night sometime even though Club NME are the current residents methinks.

Argh!!! That’s soooo annoying I missed the last two tracks as I was joking to myself that they should do Don’t. Naymind anyway, my ending was good enough for it to be a brilliant gig and the last train called. I usually hate music dvds but methinks this one will be a must have.

Just got back, ’twas very good. Better than the Forum shows as it was a bit quieter (still very loud though) and you could make out more of the songs. The whole album sounded great, especially Tarpit and Lose.

Lou came on with his big uke or little guitar (I couldn’t see, but probably uke) and played Poledo at the end, which sounded really good from what we could hear (he screamed for the noise in the middle). Unfortunately, this part of the gig was ruined by half of the people at the front with us either talking through it or shouting pointless rubbish. It’s a shame as it would have been spectacular if the whole place just went silent and stared at him. Oh well.

After a bit of "but that’s the album. That’s it. Go home. Go to bed. That’s it" and making fun of the Chilli Peppers (?) from Lou (J never seems to speak at these things), they came on for a first encore, Bulbs of Passion, Freakscene, something else I can’t remember now as we sinfully went to the cloakroom for a second before the big queue started. May have been some cover I didn’t recognise as I’m not too up on my non-dinosaur 80s stuff). They then left and after a long (at least 5 minutes) burst of feedback/noise, came on to play Budge and Forget The Swan (with a long but great J solo on the latter).

This was followed by some words about "the end" and that was it.

Very good gig. I’m pretty sleepy but I’m sure someone can do some long bit of prose for you later.

Oh, and like at the Forum gig (at which he definately was) methinks a Mr Kevin Shields was in the crowd at the front before walking off to be all trendy indie-hero at the sides.

I’m going but I can’t really be bothered to lug the recorder. I’m sure someone will though and I’ll take some photos. Does anyone wonder if they’ll end on Poledo or how they’ll do it? It seems like a bit of an odd ending but it could be fantastic. I doubt they’ll end on Show Me The Way as J allegedly doesn’t like it (hence the new bonus track on the reissue) but they might do Just Like Heaven.

No matter what they do, I’ve loved this album since I was a kid, so even if I saw them at the Forum I’m unbelievably excited. Anyone know who’s supporting? Anyone bringing earplugs?

The metro show was really cool. The looping thing was great and the distortion pedal was really raw and loud. He did this really strange version of Alone which I loved and as he played Flying Cloud and Not You Again (my faves), I had a smile on my face for hours.

              He didn’t have a Martin guitar though…hmmm

A fun moment was when J stopped playing half way through a song, drummed on the guiatar for a while and then went back into it, very cool indeed. He also did the same by tuning the guitar half way through. Adding to the relaxed nature of the show. I spent the following day learning to play as many Dino-songs as I could. I guess that shows how much I enjoyed it.

              bang fizz.
