i dug all of my vinyl out of storage today and treated my neighbors to some classics.
stooges – ‘metallic KO’
minutemen – ‘double nickels on the dime’
dinosaur jr. – ‘bug’
..and to funk em up a bit:
prince – ‘1999’
i’m liking what i’ve heard so far. to be honest, the last couple SY records didn’t do much for me. "sonic nurse" grew on me but ‘NYC ghosts and flowers’ and ‘murray st’. left me wanting more. as for my fave…it’s gotta be ‘sister’. the first time i heard catholic block as an impressionable 16 year old i was blown away…
anyone heard the new twilight singers album yet? and dulli fans, the whigs contribute a track to the upcoming Big Star tribute album…
"So cheat your landlord if you can and must, but do not try to shortchange the Muse. It cannot be done. You can’t fake quality any more than you can fake a good meal."
most of the books i read while in africa were agriculture or food related. i did read "a million little pieces" by james frey. being a recovering heroin addict, i was a bit skeptical of some of the passages, turns out i had good reason to be. it was an entertaining read nonetheless. but nobody will ever do junkie lit. the way bill burroughs did…..RIP..
i’ve been rockin out to neil young’s new album, and the track "let’s impeach the president". neil will always be the fucking MAN!

thanks for the welcome back folks. and randy jane..my experience was fucking wonderful. the first 2 months or so were really brutal, but after that it was phenomenal. i loved it so much that i’m considering becoming a peace corps trainer after i finish school.
i read three books by chuck p. while on my adventure: lullaby, choke, and invisible monsters. all three were good, but choke was by far my favorite.
man, i have alot of catching up to do. i didn’t get much music literature at all, save an occasional NYT. a friend of mine sent me some tapes on a regular basis, but i imagine there’s tons of good shit out there for me to hear. recomendations? i listened to alot of alt-country type stuff while i was gone..son volt, old 97s, wilco, etc. i need to get my rock and roll on!
