With the price of Les Paul’s this day, I’m surprised it’s so "cheap." I mean, special paint warrants $3000 price tags from them these days. It’s a cool premise. It will be big with studio guys and "assassin" types who tour with singer/songwriters who use a lot of alt tunings. Still, seems a bit much.
Yeah, that’s good stuff. People do expect WAY too much access to the personal lives of people these days.
Does anyone know the exact release date on the guitar?
I’m saving my nickels and dimes starting right now. Do you think people would be weirded out if a 28 year old dude came to their door asking if they needed their lawn mowed. I will get one of these, they look killer and I’m sure they’ll sound awesome too.
Well, I know where my nickels and dimes are going now.

Yeah, it rattles, but if you set it up properly theres less chance of it rattling and half of the tone goes with its bridge, the bridge gives that jangly and surfy sound. The only problem with it that I dislike and really really dislike is that theres a lot of slapback on the strings and my low e always pops out and its out of place. oh well. These are big issues when you’re playing live, not just something an "idiot can’t handle"…Leo Fender has stated in multiple interviews that the bridge on the Jazzmaster was subpar and was a design flaw. That’s one of the reason the guitars were pushed to obscurity for so long. I mean, if people like Thurston Moore, Mark Arm, J and others hadn’t gotten them so cheap in the early 80s and put on a Tune-o-Matic, these would still be obscure guitars few people played.
They’ve got excellent tone and can produce a variety of sounds, but design flaws made them horrible to play for anyone not doing chords only.
I was the photographer who handed him the pick. That was a fun moment.
Oh, I had a blast. Loved it. I’m just saying, it’s an odd scene at the shows.
Yes, they will play 45 minutes, the tour people will be on their ass about time and you will be surrounded by kiosks giving away cigarrettes. You will also have people painting pictures, getting their pictures taken for some weird keychain thing…basically, it’s a big tour by Camel to sell more cigarettes. I was stoked because I got a friend of mine 2 free packs of smokes and I got a free drink out of it.
Dinosaur will not be nearly as loud as normal, but still much louder than the Black Keys. I dig the Black Keys, but it was really low volume for a concert. So much so you could hear talking and shit over the music.
Cool deal…
As for the setlist issue…Sebadoh played virtually the same set list EVERY NIGHT on their last tour. As for the opening for the Black Keys thing, I couldn’t see them switching around. The tour is creep, between every song someone was on the side of the stage with a piece of paper showing the exact time so they wouldn’t go over at all. It was lame. J made a few comments like "We now have 19 minutes left to play for you." "I think we have enough time for this last song." He seemed amused by the ridiculousness of it all. J seemed a lot more upbeat and "talkative"…I mean, he said something between nearly every song. Not just "thank you…" They all seem really happy on now. It’s great to see.
J’s guitar went out after the first 8 notes of Almost Ready to open the set and when Lou and Murph stopped, we all began cheering like they’d played the best song ever…even me, probably looking like a fucktard in the photo area…iand they all laughed. Murph and Lou smiled the whole show. Even J cracked a few smiles. When I was like "That was awesome!" to see Out There mere inches away, Murph nodded at me and smiled. I think they’re having a great time with this and that’s more important that playing a similar setlist each night. Honestly, 80% or more of the audience hasn’t been to any other show on the tour, so they don’t know the difference.
"Rip Van Winkle " wrote:Uhh that seems like a short set, dont bother with pics, i’d rather read other setlists and sutff.I was saying I had a pic of the set list. Besides, others may want to see it…wasn’t aware this thread was only to serve your interests, apologies.

Yeah, I was left with a desire to see much more. I had to just bump over to our practice space a few blocks over and made some noise to keep the vibe going. The Black Keys are good, but with Dinosaur Jr as an opener, they sounded boring and it showed how little dynamic they have in their sound. Everything sounds very compressed…and live that’s a bummer for me.
I was playing with it at Guitar Center. The bridge pickup is slanted instead of straight, but they’re very similar. I’ll find the name for you….
In regards to price:
I’ve owned all sorts of guitars in my life. The highest end was a Rickenbacker 330 or a Parker Nightfly (couldn’t stand it…way too light) to cheesy 80s metal guitars they were giving away in pawn shops. My two guitars I use now are a Peavey T-60 and a Squire Jagmaster. Both are great guitars. The T-60 has the thin neck like and SG and good frets. You can coil tap to use single and humbucker (I never use anything but single coil).
Cost should be your least important aspect of buying a guitar. You should focus on how it feels and sounds above all other things. Some people need to have an expensive guitar to feel like they’ve got something well-made…it’s just marketing scams. Sadly, an expensive guitar will not make you sound like you know how to play if you don’t, it just makes you look nice and you can tell friends how awesome it is.
The key to enjoying guitar is to learn how to do maintenance on it and to find something that speaks to you personally and feels right.
Who doesn’t?
