I went to the University of Houston. Journalism w/ a minor in political theory. I still work at the University, so I’m toying with getting a BS in Political Science and a minor in Media Production. I get free "paid leave" for classes, so I might as well do it. Just for kicks.
The guitar looks a lot like the old Hagstroms, but those have a name on the headstock. Silvertone and some of those other old "department store" guitar companies sometimes released guitars with no names on the headstocks. A cool looking guitar, nonetheless.
I’ve always thought Muffs worked well with single coils. When I’ve used humbuckers, it’s always come out very muddy. That’s one of the reasons I dropped a Dream 90 into my Jagmaster.
Yeah, I’m having the same problem…but I dig the Mistress…Wish it could work on batteries, but I guess it’s giving me an excuse to buy a pedal board. Yay!
I got the Guyatone Harmonic Distortion in. I dig it. It’s a lot like an MXR Distortion +. Glad I got it at a discount…but a cool distortion nonetheless.
That would have been a killer show. Congrats on checking it out, I love the pics.
That was a good read. I just fired our bassist, so I can understand the fear in that. Luckily, he was accepting…he was tired of the quiet we had between us. It’s funny someone as badass as J also has those fears.
Cool…the guy I sold the parts to only had $200 of the $250, so he traded me a Guyatone Harmonic Distortion to cover the rest…I can’t wait to try that out.
Yay!!! I sold some guitar parts and got my Electric Mistress coming in the mail! So now my new setup is complete. We’ve been recording and I didn’t want to do two rhythm parts separately, so I’ve been running two setups:
I’ve been splitting my guitar into 2 effects lines:
Line 1: Guitar into Cry Baby Wah into Russian Big Muff into Digital Delay into Sunn Concert Lead (No Reverb)
Line 2: Guitar into Ibanez Tubescreamer into Little Big Muff into Peavey Prowler (Reverb at 4)It’s awesome. Adds some clarity underneith as I normally just run the Tubescreamer on the Prowler so it’s more jangly while the Sunn is blazing…for the hardcore fuzz moments, kick on the Little Big Muff…it’s awesome. Most fun I’ve had lately playing with my configuration. The Electric Mistress will be phenomenal with it.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who took a long time to get this song down. Sadly, I can nail the opening solo pretty much…still can’t get the "rhythm" part down. Didn’t realize arpeggiating chords would mess with me so much. Still, this is my favorite song of all time, so I keep plugging away.
Also, from all the video I’ve seen, J NEVER plays it the same way twice, so I guess you have that on your side.
I only use 2 distortion pedals right now. A Little Big Muff. Volume at 1 o’clock, tone at 1 o’clock, sustain maxed out. For a boost/lead sound, turn on my Russian Big Muff with everything maxed out. It gets loud and super dirty. I love it.
That was killer. I dig the solo J stuff. I’ve never made it out to one of those gigs. Next time he hits Houston…I’m there.
I dig it. Sounds good. I added you to my band’s myspace.
That looks killer. I’m hoping I can make one that looks nearly as good as that one.
Yeah, I use a more low-end than most in my tone, so for me, it just mudded it out. I think the treble booster would be much better for me. I went back to using my russian Big Muff to boost for leads. It works alright, so I’ll live with it. I need to get with my friend and make a Rangemaster/Germania pedal. It could be awesome.
Wow, from that far away, there is no telling.
