Maybe the one I had doesn’t work right or something…but it did VERY little for my setup. I ran it guitar into LPB into Big Muff into amp…It just made everything sound really low. It killed the highs. Of course, I usually run my Big Muff pegged out, so that may have something to do with it. I should have recorded the response I got…

My only thought is that I use a Sunn Concert Lead, which is solid-state. I know my tubescreamer doesn’t do near as much for that amp as it does my Peavey Prowler combo amp. And yes, I know TUBEscreamer says it all. So I’m guessing the power booster does more for overdriving the tubes. I’m back to my standard setup now. Glad it worked out for you.

The effect is VERY minimal. I’m going to return it today. I was pretty bummed on it. Maybe if you use a tube amp, it’ll sound better, but for me, it kinda blew. It increased the low end, which was cool. And works as a small distortion. Like a tubescreamer-lite vibe. But it’s not something I’ll use much, so it goes back to the store.

Awesome, I found some schematics online for lots of pedals. May have to give these a whirl. If I fail…so be it, at least I tried.

I got a LPB-1 yesterday. Need to give it a try this evening. Can’t wait to check it out.

Yeah, for me, I pick up a guitar and go off of how it feels in my hands. Are the frets good? Could I play it a long time comfortably? I prefer thin necks so that’s something I look for. I love Tele sounds but their necks bother me. So I’ve sanded a few of them down…I have a Squier 51 I bought and it doesn’t bother me as much. I think my hand slides easier on the unfinished neck.

I love getting older, beat up or cheap guitars and making them into what I want. I much more rewarding than paying a bunch of money for something and not being 100% satisfied with it.

Yeah, one of the other guys did those shows. Last year I took a lot of time off from covering shows to play some of my own. I may start doing more, but I tried to only do shows I HAD to see. So that’s why I did Dino, The Melvins, etc.

if you didn’t want to route it(im assuming you’re talking about a jagmaster?) which wou would have to do if you wanted to drop p-90’s in it. You could go the humbucker sized p-90 route.

You wouldn’t have to route the Jagmaster, as it’s got the ‘pool’ routing in it. Most everything under the pickguard is open, it’d be easy to put in regular P-90s…just have to make/purchase a new pickguard to give you the space for the pickup. I’ve thought about putting in a Seymour Duncan Jazzmaster pickup, but I was worried about the hum. The Dream-90s from GFS is REALLY quiet, so I chose it.

I’m not a fan of spending a lot of money on electric guitars. You can do anything by changing the wiring and pickups. If I ever got the money to use, sure, I’d buy a Jazzmaster or an old SG…which ever I lusted after most that day. As it stands, I can’t…but I can make a guitar sound REALLY close to what I want. The only "stock" guitar I own is a Peavey T-60 and I’m modding it out now. Keeping the original wiring and pickup, but I routed out the body to lighten it, put a new back on, binding and am making a pickguard with only 1 pickup instead of 2. So, I will own nothing the way it came from the factory soon.

Do you have a schematic? My wife could probably do it, she used to build circuit boxes for airplanes.

How do you like those pickups as opposed to the stock ones? How do they sound and all that junk? Also, I’ve never heard of them actually, so where did you find them?

                    R/J

I like it a lot more now. Humbuckers suck with the Big Muff. It sounds way to garbled or whatever you want to call it. The Dream 90s cut. They make it more like the guitars it’s named after. A lot brighter. The Dream 90s are cool because they’re the same size as a humbucker…it did take me some dremel-sanding of the pocket to get it wide enough, but the Jagmaster pickguard is more fit to go right around those pickups.

You can check them out at http://www.guitarfetish.com”>http://www.guitarfetish.com. Here’s a pic before I changed out the neck one. I’m thinking of going back to this configuration. Drop the neck one into another guitar I have.

I love it a lot more now. I love the cutting sound.

You’re right, I run a little web-based music magazine thing and I get all sorts of releases way early. I can honestly say I’ve never ripped a CD and put it out on the web. I have burned lots of copies for friends, but that’s normally to turn them onto a great band.

I still try to buy albums of bands I REALLY like, so they will be more apt to tour through Houston, since they have data showing a lot of their music was bought here. I subscribe to the "if I’m doing it, at least 10 other people must be doing it." mindset. Almost every band we’ve covered has sent us CDs of their music. Normally, since they’re touring to support an album, we’ll get the music about a month before it’s released.

I know lots of fanzine kids and webzine kids who rip and p2p share anything they get. They mostly do indie punk albums, but there will always be SOMEONE out there doing it. Before the release date, on the release date and after the release date.

                              My current setup is this:

Squier Jagmaster customized with GFS Dream 90 pickups into a CryBaby Wah into a Russian Big Muff into a Little Big Muff into a Boss Digital Delay into a Danelectro Fab Flange (sounds good, made like garbage) split into a Sunn Concert Lead Head into Peavey 2×10 Cabinet and a Peavey Prowler 1×12 combo…I’m looking to expand it.

Currently on the radar: Germania Treble Booster, Nano Clone and an Electric Mistress.

I had an MXR Blue Box, but I just didn’t dig it at all. I’m happy with everything I have now. It’s good stuff.

Yes it does. History is full of examples where people changed the status quo. People like you who think it’s wrong to change what is already in motion are the problem with our country today.

                                And underpants…nice rebutle.

I will stand by my take and take any criticism that comes with it. Civil Disobedience’s main principle is to take the punishment that comes with the action. I just think you’re flawed in your logic. Business sense lacks a lot of logic though, so I don’t blame you.

I believe there are many cases in this very thread that have said their downloading has led to them BUYING albums they wouldn’t have bought otherwise. That’s the only backing I need to show the logic of my position. Downloading exposes music to a lot more people. I love music, not the music industry, so I’m more into the experience of it. I will do what it takes to expose myself to more music, because I love it. I don’t make enough money to support my lower-middle class lifestyle and buy all the music I want to hear.

Also, through the music journalism I do, I get a lot of promo albums, which I have actually liked so much I’ve purchased a copy of the albums. It’s fun to call people thieves and assholes though, so why fight the way things are?

I would much rather bands send me CDs for free. I would also prefer my landlord let me live for free. However, since he doesn’t, that doesn’t make it OK for me to bash in his windows and rob his house. I was unaware that just because we’d prefer a paradigm shift we had free reign to break the law with moral impunity.

To quote an SNL skit, "Really?" Are you serious?

Let’s put it in intelligent terms. When you moved into the house you rented from your landlord, did he charge you to walk through it and make sure it was up to your standards? When you bought your car, were you able to test drive it? If you buy a guitar, can you play it before you buy it? All I’m saying is we should not be subjected to purchasing CDs with no idea of what is on them outside of 1 selected track from the band.

I will ask you this as well. There is a site online that has schematics for various guitar pedals, amp wirings, etc. Someone with a reasonable knowledge of circuitry could make all their own pedals, amps and fix their guitar wiring for only the cost of parts. No one is trying to shut this down, why not?

Also, people are tabbing records out on this very board. I’m working on some now. It has already been shown through OLGA, etc that this is a punishable offense under interpretation of copyright law. With tabs, I could learn to play a song without buying the CD or I wouldn’t have to buy any music books that band released (if they so chose to). I live by the "it’s all okay or none of it is" mentality.

The reason a lot of these aren’t such hot button issues is that these don’t effect big business nearly as bad as the music. A songbook mostly goes to the person with publishing rights (i.e. – the songwriter/publishing firm) so the labels don’t get much of the percentage, so they largely don’t care. It’s childish to pick battles and then make up outrageous examples. In philosophy, it’s called begging the question. It’s invalid in trying to make honest conclusions.
