thought I should add my two cents about Japanese guitars. I have not done much comparative work between us and jap models, but anyway.
My fender jaguar was imported from japan and when I got it it had poor setup. the string slipped as crazy. and it was not intonated very well. If that is common, stay away. As for Tokay.. I have a tokay strat from the eighties with red colour, red neck and matching headstock. I have heard positive stuff about Tokay, so maybe I should take it to a guitar luthier and get it fixed. It has rosewood fingerboard, or at least it looks like that. But one can never know, the stereotype about japan using cheap and poor wood could be true. :D

As far as I can remember J Mascis has used the following jazzmasters:
1: a sunburst full of stickers. the paint was rather vaned off. I think it is in some rock museum now? maybe this is what was used in the amherst 85 video before adding stickers?
2: the blue/purple one with black pickups, and some stickers.
3:the dark blue one with gold pickguard.
4: lake placid blue with matching headstock. ( not used as often as number 2 and 3.)
and recently a pink/red jazzmaster ( used on mountain man at the Download festival 2005) is this the Amma guitar?
and then more recently a purple/pink sparkle coloured one with gold pickguard..

from Where you been to J and the fog w/Mike Watt ; 93 to 2002:
fender telecaster (blue paint with metallic pickguard)
fender esquire ( grey sparkle paint)

plus a fender jaguar (lake placid blue w/matching headstock) not seen it used live.. ?

Rickenbacker bass is what Lemmy in Motorhead has used since early days or from the start. Not sure why Lemmy uses that one, is there any sixties band he was inspired from?
Not sure if Lemmy’s the main reason Lou has played Rickenbacker with dinosaur since the start. Rickenbacker is used by al lot of "alternative" ( read Mtv bands) nowadays.

I think HiO has really great songs and some catchy hooks as well. If the production was done more high tech (radiofriendly), I think it would have pleased far more ears and people would discover that I’m insane, i don’t think , never bought it, nothing’s goin on are very catchy songs.

I was told to better use 0.11 or thicker strings on the jazzmaster. I have no string slipping with 0.11.
I had a new japanese Jaguar where the strings slipped too much, using 010.
I used a file to cut deeper tracks for the strings on the brigde and it helped them sit still. Added some vazeline to avoid friction.. helped a bit.

I have two jazzmasters and have problems with string buzzing.I have no buzzstop device. Is the buzzing the reason why J has the brigdes switched?

this is off topic, but I wonder if anyone has the whole reading festival 97, since there now are three songs on youtube.com from the festival. Wagon, Never bought it and Feel the pain.

What else is new and Slugdefeast are the same as the bonus track on Where you been reissue. I love hearing Mike Johnson say " we’ve got another number for you." It seems like a ritual, he also says that on one of the live songs on Whatevers cool with me.

thanks for the tips. I’ll remember them for later purposes. But it seems nowadays one got to do yourself with some help along the way. Probably easier to succeed by yourself than by sending 100 demos to record companies. and yes, live playing is a must, even though I wish it wasn’t.

As long as the disc survives your chaos then everythings all right. have you considered posting a sample on freesofree? one song or so? or are you thinking it is dangerous anyways, so if you post it you might just take the risk posting it all and flee the country?
