Anyone who says the music after Lou was better is a goddamn moron. I know my friend thinks that the post-Lou material is better but he doesn’t know whatb he is talking about. He likes Dave Matthews. So…..yeah. He’s not that inclined to give an opinion.
Absolutely they are better played live. The recordings sound really underdeveloped to me. The sound is a little flat and the music sounds a bit uninspired. Plus, the band has grown a lot since they recorded that album so they had more time to perfect the songs.
August 31, 2006 at 12:04 am in reply to: What title would you give the new Dinosaur Jr. album? #117761How about they call it, "This is Dinosaur Jr’s New Album. Wait, I thought Dinosaur Jr broke up? No, they got back together. Wait, what? When? Like last year sometime. I saw them a few times. Really? How were they? Pretty good. J got real fat. Hahahaha. No, but seriously, it’s a good record".
That’s a horrible dream. I’d hate to have one of those.

1969 – The StoogesReally cool pics. How could I have missed this?????? I’m really kicking myself for not attending this show. It would have only taken me an hour to get there and it was cheap. Fuck.
That was a pretty cool show, man. Awesome version of Forget the Swan. J’s the man. Good to see the band in great working order. I want them to be around for a long time.
Also, did anyone else notice Lou looked like he had a fat lip? His lip looked a little swolen and red. Was he drinking kool-aid? Or did someone hit him?
It’s not cancelled, relax. They went to Amherst today to get some reserve instruments. You have to plan for shit like that.
August 30, 2006 at 11:45 pm in reply to: Dinosaur Jr Gear Stolen (Long Island City, NY) [CALL FOR HEL #121212That really sucks to be sure. But everyone will be fine. Gear can be replaced. Although there is the sentimentality attached to their instruments. But in all honesty, the band will recover. And Im sure the people who stole that stuff will be found and prosecuted. Rest assured, Dinosaur Jr will go on.
Some of you people are taking this way too seriously. "I think Im going to cry"? Come on. I can understand if that was all of YOUR gear and it was all you had and you would be out thousands of dollars if you weren’t able to play shows for a while and they were all the instruments you owned. But J has more guitars and pedals, Lou has more basses and Murph still has his drums and cymbols are easily replaced. Nothing incredibly bad will come from this. Unless the band and the cops and the theives get into some crazy shootout/car chase and everyone dies in a bloody car crash and the paramedics find the bands’ eviscerated, bullet riddled bodies. Now THAT would be tragic.
Damn, man that is just too funny. I would actually buy those just for the funny factor. Who the hell at Nike listens to Dinosaur Jr and who would greenlight that line of sneaker? Pretty cool but ridiculous at the same time.
June 30, 2006 at 12:29 am in reply to: For the 40th time:Flanger+distortion sound on Freak Scene? #116057I put my Boss BF-3 Flanger (I dont have/couldnt afford an EH Electric Mistress) after my Little Big muff and Boss SD-1 and it sounds pretty close to what J does on live versions of Freak Scene. It doesn’t sound 100% the same, but it’s still a satisfying result.
I’m really diggin’ my Little Big Muff. It’s so much smaller and getrs the same tone and sustain as the fulsize NYC reissue. A great pedal for a great price. Is uggest to anyone who likes the NYC reish to check out the new Little BM. It’s definitely worth it. It saves a decent amount of pedal space on yr board.
Jazzmasters really are beautiful guitars. Unfortunately they are costing quite a pretty penny these days thanks to our very own indie rock heroes. They made the guitars so popular during the early 90’s grunge/alternative rock explosion that you can’t even get yr hands on them without sellingblood and pawning all of yr grandmothers jewelry. I wish it were the good ol’ days when you could buy a second hand Jag or Jazzy for a couple of hunded bucks at a crappy pawn store or little instrument shop. But those days are gone forever I suppose.
My favorites are
Fender Strat’s
Fender Jaguar 1965
Fender Jazzmaster 1965
Martin & Co. DC-E acoustic
Gibson ES335 double cutaway with 2 f-holes 1962For me it’s
Jimi Hendrix
J Mascis
Lee Ranaldo
Thurston Moore
Tony Iommi
Jimmy Page
Kurt Cobain
Bob Dylan
Neil Young -
