I was hoping the Boston show at the Avalon from last July would be on there.. My husband and I were right at the front. Some drunk kept bashing my head into the guardrail. When he was finally removed, it was the best show ever. The place was packed and everyone was really excited. There was something about that night..

I remember a lot of cameras filming then and there were a lot of crowd shots. I am sure my bruised figure is somewhere on those tapes.

Yeah.. this DVD will be awesome.

I was at the same sho!!!! It was a good one. But it won’t be on the dvd. They didnt have the film crew with them that time. Pity, tough. It was one hell of a show. I love the backdrop that the Avalon has. The starry look really hightened the experience for me. Beauitful.

I love that Oscar Wilde quote. He was such a sassy homosexual!

It really was Lou screaming. I know for a fact. Lee ranaldo does not have that kind of voice. I know how Lee sings. That screaming is not Lee.

Dinosaur Jr were a mixture of classic 70’s rock and punk rock inspired musicians. It’s like Black Flag meets Black Sabbath meets the Rolling Stones. J even says himself in Our Band Could Be Your Life, that one of his biggest influences was The Stones. I really don’t see any real connection between emo and Dinosaur Jr’ musical styilings. Emo bands are much more sophomoric in their lyrical phrases and all sound the same. Dinosaur Jr had a much deeper sense of lyrical inspiration and were pretty unique-sounding. I mean come on! No one in the 80’s used wah pedals! Dinosaur Jr brought back the guitar solo as well. How many emo bands really play the kind of solo’s you hear on Dinosaur Jr’s records? None! Besides, after Lou was kicked out of the band J led Dinosaur Jr into a more mellow, stoner-rock vibe.

In summation, there is NO FUCKING WAY that Dinosaur Jr were emo at any time. So they wrote emotional music. Who doesn’t? Music IS emotion.

Lou was always depressed in the old days. When he finally got a girlfriend and got married, he got less whiney and depressed. Thank god, too. There’s nothing more annoying than a middle-aged depressed whiner. Rock on Lou!

I absolutely agree. As good as J Mascis is at playing guitar, no one in history will ever reach the same echilon as Jimi Hendrix. The man was the one and only Guitar God.

Well, it’s good that J doesn’t abuse drugs. Way too many great musicians go down that path. And they almost always end up dead. J is a lot like Jimi Hendrix (musically) and I’d hate for them to share that final step of overdosing and dying. I think that would just be toom much for me to handle.

But seriously, J should do some sit ups or jumping jacks or something. That large gut can’t be healthy.

I too heard that SY recorded some stuff for Rather Ripped at J’s home studio. Plus he’s been good friends with the band for many years. Before Dinosaur Jr even got signed to SST. So why not thank him?

Excellent performance. Really, top notch. I really hope the band keeps going strong and release a really great new record. If this performance is any proof of their strengths even 20 years from the time they started, then it is very nice sailing ahead.

How do you all get the footage of the show already? I thought the show didn’t air until Saturday? Is it just on the website?
Well, no matter. Cuz it’s great. Dinosaur Jr has not eased up a bit. They can kick as much ass as they could 20 years ago.

I can’t believe Where You Benn rated higher than Bug. I guess WYB is for the casual fans and Bug is for the die-hard fans. At least that’s how I’ve always encountered it. All the people who hear WYB first often hate Bug and You’re Living All Over Me. They just don’t get it.

Yeah, Severed Lips really is the best song on Dinosaur. So fucking good. Beautiful melody.

I’m totally gonna be in that dvd. My friends and I were at the Boston gigs. They know Lou pretty well. I wish I could have met him. They are inteviewed for the dvd.
