the meatloaf song mentioned was quite awful, but his second single off that album was even more rediculous with an even longer title. The song: "Objects in the Rearviewmirror May Be Closer than they are." He says this over and over again. The song is an epic, clocking in at about seven minutes. The video for it was even more rediculous, very sappy deal about a drag race gone bad. Old Meat was watching the whole thing in some puffy shirt with a clenched fist belting out the words. "Objects in the rearview mirror may be closer than they are." Breathtaking!
How about the eighties song "Solid as a Rock"
It appears in the movie Ghost World. Steve Bushemi’s character is on a date with a girl and she is trying to get him to dance to it. It’s hillarious because he only listens to classic underground blues. Great movie if you haven’t seen it.Those songs suck, but you guys are waaaay off on the worst song ever. This one clocks in at the peak of early nineties shittiness. This song has had a tragic effect on anyone that has heard it. I recently got in a discussion with a friend about this song at a bar. We decided that we were able to pick out the people that had heard the song and those that had somehow escaped its vice-like grip. I’ve never been able to escape its grip. It is a sort of gelatanous wad of penut butter stuck to my brain.
The artist: Billy Ray Cyrus
The song: The Punctuation SongLyrics:
"I love you period,
But do you love me question mark
Oh please please exclamation point
I want to hold you in parenthesis."I think I only heard the song on the radio once in my life, but there was this kid in junior high that sang it endlessly. I should have shoved a urinal mint down his bastard throat–exclamation point
I blame this song for all that went wrong with my life. Is there anyone else out there that has swallowed this swill?i saw the butthole surfers on this tour about two months ago and it was an all right show. they played mostly old stuff, only four songs off the new album, one off larryland, and two off worm saloon. the band didn’t seem that into it. it seemed like they did the same thing for every show and didn’t put much thought into it anymore.
the best part was the video screen in the back that showed some weird-as-hell movies. the movies alone made it worth going to the concert. there was one point where they showed machine gun tribal male circumcisions–like one right after another–bam bam bam. it was intense.
go to the show, but don’t expect it to blow you away (except for the circumcisions–oh yeah!!)
alors!
here’s the complete setlist for anyone who cares:
thumb
blowin’ it
quest
sameday
keeblin
amma
little fury things
flying cloud
keep the glove
throw down
repulsion
on the run
waistin
not you again
—-
get me
lung (for about ten seconds)
wagon
what else is new?The highlights were quest, amma (always a favorite, but I definitely like it better electric), on the run (I’ve had it in my head since the show), not you again (really fierce version of this, better than martin & me), real nice sing along version of get me–everyone in the place joined j which was kool! wagon & what else is new were also wonderful.
it was great getting to meet so many people from the website. thanks to the tennessee guys for letting me cut with them. (sorry to the people i cut in front of) we had a little corner by the stage like foglight said, but i wonder what happened to mat, he disappeared pretty early on??? thanks to the person that gave me the tamale–it was delicious and my favorite food!
things got weird when i left the show. i shared a cab with a raspy voiced marine guy that was at the show and he was complaining about the opening bands. (i wasn’t as impressed as half-man.) we went to this bar that stayed open until five in the morning. lots of drink going on and the crazy stuff that happened probably isn’t worth getting into. it was the craziest bar ever! this crazy old OLD lady owned it and she was running around all over the place. i met a nice looking girl with a nose ring, but she was making out with some other guy when i came back from the bathroom. oh well!
when i went back to my hotel i was offered twenty dollars for beer from some lions fans. they asked me if i was a lions fan and i told them "hell no" and then went into how the bears were going to kick their sorry winless asses all over the place. and we did, ha ha! sold them some beer i had for a rediculous price (only because they were lions fans) and went to bed. i was up until like six in the morning and am still hurting from the experience. lots of fun, though! just what i needed.
i’ll have pictures posted as soon as i get rid of the other five i have left.
cheers!

i have a hard time with the belief that 13 songs is the best fugazi– i thought so too until not too long ago.
the new album "the argument" is absolutely amazing. the song "full disclosure" is the most clever song i’ve heard in years. and it’s clever in a rock and roll kind of a way not in a radiohead clever kind of a way.
i was so impressed by "the argument" that i went back and bought "red medicine." god, that one tops the argument! i only just started listening to these two, so i don’t know if they’ll have the staying power of 13 songs, but they are definitely more mature. (with the exception of "give me the cure" which is their best song ever) check out these two if you haven’t.
oh and my top ten
sonic youth–daydream nation (how could you say any other–undoubtedly their best album and the greatest i own in my opinion)
descendents–milo goes to college
screaming trees–sweet oblivion (lanegan’s voice rules!)
beatles–abbey road (the end where all the songs tie together kills me every time—POOR GEORGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he was my favorite beatle)
dino jr–yr living all over me
velvet underground–white light/white heat (sister ray rules! greatest song of all time!)
stooges–funhouse
ramones–ramones
television–marquee moon
dead boys–young loud and snotty
oh yeah, has anyone heard beefheart’s first album "safe as milk?" i got it on vinyl this summer. it’s in real bad shape, but it’s a lot of fun to listen to on sunday mornings. very different from trout mask.
cheers!
tbhells bells!
can’t wait for the show! i go to a lot, but usually it’s just for something to do. i’m really excited about this one. j must really like chicago considering he played here three times last year alone. (i caught all three shows and snagged set lists from two of them!)
i can’t imagine this show being different from the others i’ve seen at the bottle. no fences or bouncers in front of the stage, everyone just puts their brewskies right down front. stands to be a reel kool atmosphere. i’m sure j will be walking around too!
i’m bringing a camera if anyone wants a picture with the redoubtable j mascis. (i guess i’m overstepping my bounds, but i have a good feeling i’ll get to meet him.) i can post all the pictures on the site after taking them. it would be nice to get a spot real close to the stage.
be careful, its in a sort of crappy neighborhood. not so much dangerous as desolate, but all warm and fuzzy once you get inside.
who’s the guy that’s the teacher? i teach high school english and find it funny that there is actually another teacher that likes j. All the teachers i work with listen to the eagles! ugh!!!
i know i just started on this, but the site is fun!! sorry to ramble on, but i’m real excited for the show.
cheers,
tbbring back metallica!
god, i remember the last lollapoloza. it was a tradition for me to go, but this one was at a speedway for christsake!
hopefully they take your advice and get some decent bands. I doubt radiohead, though.
Maybe more of the new "hip" bands. The strokes, The white stripes, hopefully no emo!
