It’s funny, I actually prefer the Chili Peppers more recent stuff, like Californication. I think Flea and Anthony seem like toolboxes, but I love Frusciante’s playing. Frusciante’s playing is the major reason I like the more recent stuff.

I was so worried about my wife and the baby, that the afterbirth/blood didnt phase me at all.
My wife got the epiderral(sp) with the first birth, and went natural with the second. She felt like the second one was way better. She liked the fact that she felt like she had control over her body. She did bounce back faster too after going natural. She was on her feet ready to go.
I thought it was weird that the contractions were more painful then actually pushing out the baby.
Not to sound wierd, but childbirth is the closest thing I’ve ever seen that I would consider a miracle.
I talked to Murph about opening at the Ann Arbor show. He was excited, and viewed it as an opportunity to play in front of people that might not know Dino.

Didnt J used to use an old tweed amp on teh side of the stage as a monitor?
The make up was a bad idea. I always thought it was teh worst J pic I’d ever seen. Tonas is right though, at least they got teh title right.
June 6, 2007 at 6:52 pm in reply to: Opinions after reading "Our band could be your life&quo #129759Every time I’ve met J, he’s always been nice. He does talk slow, but aslo has a great sense of humor. I was lucky enough to go guitar shopping with him once, and was amazed at how much he will talk if the subject appeals to him. J seems to be a much happier guy then he was 10 years ago. With his wife, the baby on the way, Amma, and the success the reunion probably having something to do with that.
Murph and Lou seem like good guys as well. I’ve talked to them on several occasions, and they were always friendly.
I think tom_in_chicago is right. They were 3 young guys growing up in a less then ideal situation (in the road, on a bus). Just think if all of our mistakes and flaws from our late teenage years and early 20’s were in print. I’m sure we would all seem a lot meaner/worse.
Anna, I hope you didnt take my post in a negative way. My inetntion was to encourage/convince/persuade you that this line up can pull off athe Fog type stuff. I usually just do a pretty poor job of trying to make my point.
I just think that songs like Pick Me Up and Out There, which are songs they all tend to stretch out on, Lou and Murph seem to be completely enjoying themselves. It’s not like they are being forced to comprimise or anything. And I really dont think songs like Alone or Ammaring are too far from Pick Me Up. Drawerings is probably my all time favorite J tune, and I know these guys could play the heck out of it.
Who knows, maybe I’m just way too excited because I saw them play the last couple nights. But it is so refreshing to see the news songs they have incorporated into the set list (Beyond, Out There, Feel The Pain, and The Wagon), and having them fit in perfectly with stuff from the first 3 albums.
But I could be way off too.
Justin,
When J plays Ammaring live, he tends to stretch it out. Sometimes even over 10 minutes long. It is heavier live, then on the cds.
Anna,
If you saw J, Lou, and Murph play Pick Me Up, Out There, and Sludge lately I think your tummy would hurt less. They are perfectly capable of going from Out There, to Chunks, to Alone.
J and Lou will ever be best friends, but J does seem happier to me then he did in the past. Plus, the past few Dino tours have to have gone pretty well financially because they do have that big tour bus instead of those vans they used to tour in the later Dino and Fog years. The album even seems like they were just having fun to me.
I’d love to hear songs like Drawerings and What Else is New, and this line up is very capable of doing it. I think Murph is drumming better then ever, and I think is think he’s a bit of a Zappa fan, so stretching things out wont be a problem for him. Lou seems to be enjoying himself on stage too. I think his bass playing is better then it was on the first reunion tour too. I thought songs like the Wagon and Out There sounded excellent. Pick Me Up is another song they stretch out a bit on. Now if they just take the next step into Alone and AMmaring territory.
At the end of the second show in Ann Arbor, the band just kind of jammed for a few minutes, and that was the first time I’d ever heard them(this line up) do that live. I don’t think they were covering any particular song, just jamming at the end of the night. It was great.
Justin,
I thought it was funny at the end of the first night when Lou was handing out picks. He told the one person "you dont get a pick, you didnt move all night".
Stimp,
I was in the back with the tapers teh first night wearing a red Hendrix shirt. The second night I was right there in front of Lou. Too bad we couldnt have met up. It would be nice to meet some fellow Freaksceners. That does blow that they shut you down from taping. That guy seems to go out of his way to hit the people that arent as "into it" as he is. I kept hearing him talk about the "fags" that were just standing around. He slammed into me a few times, and I just let it go. Even though I was a little pissed because he does get his elbows up. Then he smashed into the girl to my left, knocking her drink all over me. She got pissed, and pushed him back. Then he kept spending the next 2 songs slamming into and throwing elbows into a 5 ft tall girl. What a winner. When the security went to grab him, he fought with the security guard. I guess two guys were thrown out, so maybe we are thinking of different guys. I’ve just never liked the guy. It’s on ething to slam dance. Thats not my cup of tea, but its cool. Its another to just blindside people who arent slam dancing and throwing elbows into peoples backs, and thats what he always seems to do. Oh well.
Maybe we can meet up at the next Michigan shows. Where do you live?
Tonas,
I talked to Murph too, and he did seem real excited to be opening, because its an opportunity to play in front of a different crowd. Its a chance to win over some new fans.
Sameday and Ammaring
That should read Stimp, not Stomp. Sorry
