It’s funny that the critic compares Back Before You Go to KISS. That was the first thing my dad said when he heard that song. I’ve read that J thought that Ace was the coolest member of KISS, and the Ace doll is prominently displayed on the Green Mind album.
Critics suck. Someone posted on this site the other day that members of this message board could write reviews as well as most journalists. I agree with that post completely.Mermen-Live at the Haunted House

I’m glad you weren’t offended by my comments. Sorry I misinterpreted your post.
It just seems to me like a lotta indie fans where I live abandon a group any time they gain popularity. The whole idea of not liking something because others know about them always bothered me. So I guess I’ve always been sensitive to the issue. Hell, It seems to me like I’ve spent a good portion of the last 10 years trying to convince various record store workers that J is still relevant!
p.s. I’ll stay away from Meg if you leave Nina from The Cardigans for me!Rust Belt Blues, If I interpreted you wrong, I apologize in advance. PLease don’t be offended, but I think you might want to have your friends check out the White Stripes, because they are a good band. Who cares if people know about them. A groups popularity shouldn’t matter. If a group makes good music, then it’s worth a listen. Radiohead, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppilin, The Rolling Stones, and Jimi Hendrix are extremely popular, but they are still worth listening to.
So many indie music fans (I’m not lumping you in this group Rust Belt, just venting) turn thier back on a group as soon as they sign to a major, or get a sniff of mainstream acceptance. Personally, I think this is a battle J has had to fight since Green Mind. Dinosaurs first 3 albums were embraced by indie kids everywhere. J signs to a major, and releases Green Mind to mixed reviews. It bothers me that some people won’t even give More Light a listen because J has supposedly lost his indie cred.
I could go on and on, but I think I already got off of the original topic long ago. If music is good, listen to it.Flaming Lips-Clouds Taste Metallic

Meat Puppets, Pavement, Wipers, Red House Painters, and Afghan Whigs are also possibilities.
Good luck.
I always used to convert my friends by taking them to see Dinosaur Jr or J in concert. I’d buy the tickets, and I’d tell them that they only had to pay me back if they thought it was a great show. I’ve brought over 20 different people to the concerts, and everyone of them paid me back. The Mars Volta-ag mix

The Flaming Lips-agmixThe new Flaming Lips songs are great. It’s nice to see a group that has been around as long as they have, still putting out excellent music.
I’d also like to purchase the Wipers box set. I’m sure the liner notes that were written by Greg are grreat.
I always liked Gouge Away and Cecillia Ann.
Valentine Frankenstein, That is a great J quote. It’s funny, I was just listening to the Hydromatics tune that you sent me on Audiogalaxy, when you wrote that post. I can’t get that song out of my head. Thanks, Tom
J didn’t say it so politely in the article. I just didn’t think it would be right to say J had said something bad about somebody, if I wasn’t actually using quotes. I’ll try to see if I can find the article, so I could actually post what J said about Manson and Metallica.
I remember reading somewhere that J did a festival show in Europe, and Marilyn Manson was on the bill. It might have been the Koln show in Germany, I think it’s called the Bizarre Festival. In the article, J mentions that he had met Marilyn Manson, and that he was pretty cool. J went on to say that the members of Metallica were basically arrogant.
Malcolm,
I agree with you on the arrogant issue.
I used to think he was very arrogant based on quotes I had read. I think his quotes may have actually kept me from going to some of his other concerts. I went to see him last night, because I know he cant play forever. I wanted to see a legend play. I would’ve hated to say I missed seeing Hendrix, if I had the opportunity to do so.
I was pleasantly surprised by Dick Dale though. He sat down after the show, signed autographs, and talked to anyone that wanted to talk to him. He was very friendly, and nicer to his fans than most bands I’ve ever seen. He encouraged his fans to send him an email. I sent him an email today, and he sent me an eamil back the same day.
I admit that I’ve read a ton of horrible Dick Dale qoutes, but I’m glad I did go see him live, and I won’t miss him when he comes again.May 15
Dick Dale at the Majestic Theatre, Detroit
I’ve been a fan of Dick Dale’s for years, but this was actually my first time seeing him live. He was great. I can’t believe that this guy is almost 60. He uses bass strings on his guitar, and still tremelo picks better than anyone. I don’t know how is arm doesn’t fall off. His tone is so unique.
This guy is a living legend. He’s done as much for guitar as anyone in the last 40 years. Jimi Hendrix has even written a song about Dick Dale. I strongly encourage all fans of the guitar to check out Dick Dale live. He played his classics, some new material, and even covered House of the Rising Sun and Smoke on the Water. I’ll never miss Dick Dale when he comes to my area again.Nick Cave is definately worth checking out. He’s my favorite songwriter. I’ve read that Nick Cave’s earlier group, The Birthday Party, were a huge influence on J, especially during the beginning of Dinosaur.
The Birthday Party were a pretty unique band. They had a dark, raw, violent, agressive, country/punk sound. I feel like I’m being violated when I listen to some of thier songs. Real dark stuff.
I’m beginning to babble. I’ll stop now, and just say that I stronly recommend giving Nick Cave a listen to anyone that hasn’t already done so.Sorry to keep asking all of these questions. What is the name of the group on audiogalaxy? Thanks, Tom
