Damn Jeremiah. Size 15 shoes. How tall are you ?
Why did the band have Artie sing? I would’ve loved to hear Lotta Love and Feel a WHole Lot Better with J and Lou singing.
YLAOM
FARM
BEYOND
DINOSAUR
WHERE YOU BEEN
GREEN MIND
HAND IT OVER
BUG
WITHOUT A SOUNDNo, Show Me the Way sucks, and Just Like Heaven is awesome.

"andyfest" wrote:"Chicago_Fog" wrote:Quote:Wrong. Many people pay for music — those who believe that, you know, musicians should be PAID for their work. Not everyone steals from musicians. If you need proof of how grossly innacurate this, look into Saul Williams release that Reznor produced. Less than 18 percent paid for the album when it cost 5 dollars, was produced by one of the biggest and most respected names in the music industry and targeted at a very loyal fan base also knowing the money would go right into the artist pocket. LESS THAN 18%. He still sold more records and made more money than he would have with a "tradional label" too.
So that would without question put you in a clear minority. Especially when you take away the variables mentioned about above and point someone to Target or Itunes to make their purchase. This is one example, I can repeat these results time and time again. There is an entire generation that thinks music is free because technology has made it so. Rather than getting pissy about a leak wrap your mind around where we are today. The best thing you can do to truly help your favorite band is NOT buying a CD but by generating a buzz (not with $$ marketing) and getting people out to shows and the main thing I (and most people) want in my arsenal to do this is music. Get people to shows, get the music out and stop worrying about us musicians when you buy our CDs it does very little for most of us. Again, welcome to where we are in the industry.
P.S One more point that dials in on how clueless you are No torrent has EVER been removed EVER from the Pirate Bay. So "reporting it to the label to have it shut down" is a process that does not work or really even exist. Look into it.
My take on illegal downloads is that I wouldn’t walk into Walmart and steal a CD off the shelf so why would I download the music for free illegally? It’s not about the bands making money or not it’s about the fact that you’re STEALING.
I realize everyone does it, it’s harder to get caught, etc. but to me there’s no difference. Don’t mean to sound like mom or dad here, it’s just the way I see the issue.
I’m guilty of downloading illegally. I also speed on the expressway on occasion. They are both against the law, but I think I’m a pretty decent human being. I do end up buying every cd I download illegally. If something is out of print, I try to purchase it at a used record store or ebay. I have over 1,000 cds and 500 records in my collection. Many of those cd’s/records have been purchaased because I downloaded them illegally first.
It’s weird, downloading music is agaisnt the law, but charging someone $40 for an import cd with two bonus tracks isn’t a no no? I went to a Metallica/Guns- N -Roses concert in 1991 or 1992 and they wear asking $36 for a tee shirt! I’m not making excuses because downloading is stealing, but i think the greed of many involved in the music industry left many people against them.
I searched and searched for that Dino leak. I wasn’t disapointed with the recording quality of it, I was just thrilled to hear new Dinosaur Jr. I would’ve paid $100 for it. I buy ever single Dino item at the merch table I dont have when I go to their shows. Hell, I bought a Purple J Jazzmaster, and a silver pair of Nikes i would’ve never bought if they werent Dino. If someone thinks I did something wrong or I’m a bad person because I downloaded an album that I’m buying 4 copies of, I can live with it.
"CrookedRain" wrote:I’m disappointed that none of you mentioned that the leak was a poor 128kbps rip. I think I’ll wait for a better rip or for the album to get released.I was disapointed with the artwork on Without A Sound and hand it Over, but I’m over it now. As far as the leak, I was just happy to hear some new Dinosaur jr.
LOL Too funny guys. I was just entertaining myself with the idoit that was posting this nonsense. It amazes me that people waste their time trying crap like that. It can’t possible get one person to click on their link.
"Rumpy" wrote:yes, there is a sense of mellowness in the music throughout Farm. of mature, mellow melancholy. but this is so much better than Without a Sound or Free So Free (my two least favorite J-related albums)… I can’t explain the phenomenon…"See You" is the song that reminds me most of Without A Sound. It’s my least favorite Dino album, but I think "See You’ is a good mellow J song. I love the last minute of it.
I do agree, the album has a mature feel to it. Not that I think their other stuff is immature. Your right,It’s hard to explain.
Farm is my second favorite Dino album. Great stuff.
The guy I got it from on soulseek should be on there tonight. I had been searching soulseek every day the past month. Searching for Imagination Blind is how I found it.
I didn’t put Farm in my shared folder online. I have mixed feelings about downloading/file sharing. I love to be able to get rare stuff/live shows, but still think people should support the artists buy buying cds, going to concerts, and buying merch.
"Rumpy" wrote:it does have that "mellow, mature" vibe to it in places. but it’s not the "flat flute of champagne" vibe of without a sound, it’s a huge step up from it. I’d say "see ya" is the closest to without a sound ya get on hereWhen I say its mellower in a WIthout a Sound/Free so Free way, I don’t mean it as a knock. The mellow songs on Farm sort of flow and build like Free So Free.
I couldn’t help myself, and downloaded the album from soulseek last night. I’m getting the album as soon as it comes out, but when it comes to Dinosaur/J theres no way I could wait. If I die before June 22nd, at least I’ll have heard the album.
The album is awesome. It does seem mellower in a Free So Free/ Without a Sound sort of way, with a litle Beyond mixed in. Its the type of album you can put on and just listen the whole way through. ‘Friends’, which sounded like the weakest of the samples to me, even has some cool guitar parts. ‘Said the People’ is proably my favorite on the album, followed by ‘Plans’. I loved Beyond (which was my 2nd favorite Dino album after YLAOM), but I think Farm is much better.
I could go on babbling about how great the album is, but my poor writing skills just don’t do the album justice.
Any questions, let me know."malkmus" wrote:Ohh what a tease, but great! Thanks for this. ‘Plans’ sounds especially great I think
I totally agree. I must have played ‘Plans" at least 50 times today!
Thanks girl and essgee!
Congrats!
My wife and I just had our third on Wednesday (Madison Grace).
I always put headphones and music on my wifes belly during pregnancy, which may sound lame, but was actually amazing. The baby would start moving like crazy in response to the sound, and the tempo of the song would bring about a different reaction. My boys loved surf/instro music, especially the slower, more melodic tunes. The Mermen, Los Straitjackets, Daikaiju, Dick Dale, The Bambi Molesters, and The Woodies were some of their favorites.
Both boys(4 and 2) love Dinosaur jr. They’ll play air guitar and say "Dad, I”m rocking like J". My 2 year old even asked why J sounds so sad when he sings yesterday LOL. My oldest loves Love, Built to Spill, Grandaddy (especially Nature Anthem when he was little)and the Flaming Lips. I’m pretty sure they just like these things because I do, but its still awesome to hear them ask if they can bring a J cd into the car, and make other musical requests.
Congrats on the new additon to your family!
