Nice interview. Thanks for posting it. I can’t believe J was drinking Ginger Ale, is he not a "drinker?"

I’m pretty sure that J is either a teetotaler or drinks very little/rarely. I saw him 4 or 5 times last year and I don’t recall ever seeing him w/ a drink.

yeah, Dinosaur is brutal on the ears. The shows in Chicago broke 120dB :o I made the mistake of taking them out for part of one of the shows and had this "whooshing" noise in my head for about a day.

I have a very mild ringing after the last 18-20 yrs of shows (I’m 36). I can only really hear it if I’m lying in bed w/ no other noise. The "hearos"/"earlove" style things work OK but I’ve also found that Leights foam earplugs do well and don’t actually muffle everything. They are the ones Lou uses. I generally wear them all the time but sometimes won’t if it’s not seriously loud or the type of sound would be seriously degraded.

Kids, do yourself a favor and get earplugs.

a quick update that I posted on loobiecore.com re: recording progress ….

Things are going well. I’m told there have been "breakthroughs" but I don’t know how many songs have been completed and/or if they are going to play them on the Far East tour.

There was also a dinner party at Thurston Moore & Kim Gordon’s house w/ Lou, Kath, J & Louisa. Dunno if Murph was there. The food was divine :)

After dinner they hit a (who else) Magik Markers show.

man, im so bowled over that dinosaur jr is recording a new album wiht the original line-up. Im really curious to see if there will be any collaborations between J and Lou on the new record. It’d be great to see some songs with imput from the both of them (and murph of course) or just some lou and j songs filtered thru dino’s unique sound.

I’d posit that any new Lou song would have to be radically different than pretty much all of his stuff of the last 3-4 years in order for it to not sound out of place on a Dinosaur record. It’s not like he can do "The Ballad of Day Kitty" with a screaming guitar solo in the middle … "where’d the kitty come from … where’d the kitty go to … <KRRRAAANNNNGGGGG>" :D

And I for one think this’ll be freaking great.

Seemed no guarantee it’d be this year, judging by J’s comment. But here’s hoping, right. Roll on Northern Summer…and whatever-the-new-album-might-be-called!

well, it has only only like 2 weeks since Lou made it out east.

Murph ? Is that you ?

and how does one wake up covered in soot ? Was he sucking on the freaking tailpipe ?

                  This calls for investigation.

yup, they are holed up in WMass pretty much until they leave for the Australasia tour. "pre production" was what I was originally told but perhaps they’ll actually be recording some songs.

Perhaps those Down Under will get to hear some new stuff. :o

                        here’s one to ponder:

                        J & Lou battle famously
                        J marries woman named Louisa
                        J & Lou reconcile

                        hmmmmmm ….. ;D

hey kracked .. was that you screaming (1-2-3) "THE LEPER !" at the Chicago Metro shows ?? :)

I was backstage at the Irving Plaza and tried to ask J to play it while he was writing out the setlist but he just kinda shrugged his shoulders in typical J fashion and said something about not really playing/rehearsing it. Or at least that’s what I thought he said.

Queens of the Stone Age ?? Ugh. They completely suck. Seriously. They SUCK. They "rock" about has hard as a 90 year-old’s limp dick.

I shudder to think that they’d even remotely entertain being associated with them. :o

And even in the heyday of Green Mind, Dino opened for MBV. I’d love to see a tour w/ SY, however. Watt would be a more logical choice as an opener.
