yes, the gig totally rocked. titanic.

and if anyone had chimed in to my previous posts, they could have had one of the two extra all-access passes that I had.

The one last night though made me question my faith – Lou said something at the end of the set like "Thanks so much for coming out guys, we really appreciate it." I just didn’t buy it.

What didn’t you "buy" ? That he was happy to see people appreciating the band again ? That he was acknowledging that the sound sucked ass ? Believe me, he’s one of the most humble guys you’ll ever meet, despite the ridiculousness some people spout about his "ego". If he said "thanks", he meant "thanks".

With the sound, the sound is almost entirely dictated by the acoustics of the venue. I’ve never been to Soma, but I’d bet that if you had asked them about it after the soundcheck, they would have said the same thing. There’s only so much that Ajay can do.

As far as material goes, I don’t think they’ve played much at all off Bug the whole tour. And FWIW, J happens to think that "Bulbs" is one of, if not the, BEST songs they ever did.

man, all these "journalists" are so incredibly f-ing lazy. J’s PR firm may as well just fax them the article as they are all exactly the same !

            Ugh.

I don’t think there was any sort of connection. He & Kath were just big fans.

Yeah, I think there were lots of people there from Chicago who made the trip so it’s a bummer that the sound & lighting was so bad. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure most people totally dug it and it had nothing to do w/ the band whatsoever, but it could have been waaaaay better.

im sure the last song was chunks,

Which pretty much sums up how the show sounded — as in blowing chunks. Man, the Rave was HORRIBLE. You could barely hear Lou’s bass and forget about hearing the snare drum or cymbals. That place is a barn — boxy construction, hard floors, (concrete?) beams in the ceiling to support the upstairs ballroom. It was all a muddy pile of shit. Ugh.

And the stage was so dark you could barely even see Murph.

my one question for the whole thing is who the hell decided to make lollapalloza a one time one city thing??? the whole point of lollapalloza i thought was to bring indie, club, alternophenomenon bands to the people!!!

I’m pretty sure this was because no one bought tickets for it in 2003/2004 (?). it was more of a corporophenomenon anyways as Perry Ferrell et al really had nothing to do with it other than name only.

I’m not sure many people got it either when he asked with a show of hands who had lung/yeast(!)/ear infections.

This was because Lou actually did have a really bad sinus infection. But, thanks to the Canadian health care system, the hotel sent a doctor at no cost.

Thank God for Flonase & antibiotics.

                            :)

Everyone (9 in all, I believe) is on the DinoCruiser 2005. I hear it totally kicks ass … satellite TV, multiple compartments/levels, microwave, un-stinky bathrooms. Pretty much brand-spanking new. The bus in Europe supposedly sucked ass.

Much to Kath’s chagrin, J’s wife isn’t traveling on this leg of the tour. She was bummed. :(
