So has anyone listened to these new songs yet? What other SY records sound like this one? I always thought they wrote just a bunch of artsy noise songs. This new stuff I think is pretty killer.
I ordered from the local (Seattle) BuyMusicHere affiliate. They emailed me last week to let me know they would ship the CD’s on the 16th. So hopefully when I get home from work I’ll have presents.
Quote:when is the cbgb’s cd going to be available? That was released yesterday as well.
If we look at where Emo came from an argument can be made that Dinosaur does have some relation to it. Emo came from hardcore, and Dinosaur came from Deep Wound (a hardcore band). Obviously J took hardcore and did something with it (to create his unique sound), and so did the other Emo bands. I would have to agree that Rites of Spring were the originators of Emo, but that may only be lyrically or in singing style. I think musically Sunny Day Real Estate (1st record Diary) had more to do with the current "sound" of Emo. If I was to describe the guitar sound of Emo it would be octaves and arppegios. Dinosaur Jr. isn’t just octaves and arppegios, and J’s style of singing isn’t anything like a current Emo band. Though lyrically, you may be able to make a case. I suppose if you were to label Dinosaur Jr Emo, it would have to be Old Skool Emo….. or something.
Quote:and if J thinks the Frampton cover sucks and didn’t want it on there, that’s his decision.I asked about that at the reunion show in Seattle last year and was told by a woman selling the Dino swag (maybe a wife?) that they weren’t able to get the rights to that song again to put it onthe reissue.
Although I have read that J thinks its the worst thing they ever did. :-
My daughter was just in a musical at church on Sunday, they did Jonah and the whale, it was very good (alot better than I thought it would be). So that story is a pretty good one. I always liked David and Goliath, and for some reason the whole Soddom and Gamorrah thing too.
Sweet, thanks guys, I’ll definately check some of these out.

Thanks for posting this. I never got into Sonic Youth all that much, I’m not sure why. I listened to all the new songs and they sound AWESOME! I’m totally going to buy this when it comes out. Maybe I’ll pick up some of their older stuff too. Any suggestions on which to buy. I know Goo is good but other than that I’m not sure.
Thanks again.

Has anyone got the actual CD’s yet? Hows the packaging? I’m curious to know. Mine won’t show up until tomorrow, waiting sucks!
Ha!… yeah it’s probably that guy…… you know, Juan Mascis and his world famous Columbian Coffee.

LOL!……..Thats great! Happy mothers day Anna!
So do you know where we can buy this J Mascis coffee?
I hear ya, I can only watch those videos on You Tube so much ya’ know. It will definately be nice to see something else. Hopefully the same thing doesn’t happen to this one that hapened to The Year Punk Broke DVD. That would suck big time.
It isn’t that there is a specific artist I hate, rather a whole genre. I can’t stand modern R&B, Pop crap. Everything from like R. Kelly to boy bands to Britney Spears or Mariah Carey. Ick!
It’s funny because when I was younger I totally dug Cindi Lauper, but her current counterparts totally suck, I hate them all. (still dig Cindi though)

I know this is an old thread but I couldn’t resist.
