I should be getting the US 2CD version as import soon, too.
Thanks Jeremiah, that’s what I was hoping for. I also left a message on the loobiecore forum since Lou hangs out there a lot. I might post screenshots of the wave files, if required.
Yeah, but "loud" doesn’t mean "distorted". It’s definitely a miss-pressing – everything sounds as if the band is singing and playing through a kazoo….
I will try to contact the band about this.

The feedback screaming…It’s up on freesofree, although not the full show (missing Sludgefeast & Minor Threat). The tune is Track 07 (Severed Lips) and Track 08 is the post-song-chaos. It’s Lou yelling "Yeah !", not Murph btw….
An alternate source (complete and much better quality) surfaced in the collector’s network last year….
It’s odd ! I thought about contacting John Agnello or PIAS directly.
I haven’t checked my vinyl version yet but those usually have a better dynamic range than CDs anyways.
I wonder if they still use different masters for different pressings in different countries these days – something that was common practice back in the 60s/70s/80s days of vinyl pressings…. but nowadays with CDs that shouldn’t be an issue actually….
But, well, hey, maybe I have a genuine collector’s item !

I think the main reason for the FOG playing ATP (and not Dinosaur) is that the Barlow family is expecting their 2nd child around that time and Lou probably wants to stay at home. Just my 2 cents….
IMHO, the Athens version was the best they did in years ! That song HAS to be played ragged & loose, just like the way they did it in the early days. I saw them doing it last year, and it was totally straight and almost boring. It needs to be played VERY slow – that way the guitar solo will totally explode. It just has to sound "broken".
Dinosaur are ALIVE & WELL. They’ve been together again & constantly touring the world for 3 years now and they are still playing awesome shows, you can clearly see that they are having a good time and are enjoying themselves, musically they are getting better with every tour and they seem to have built up a "brotherhood" kind of friendship over the years… and J has recently said that he’s already toying with the idea of another album… you can be sure they’ll be around for a while…

Just got back from Hamburg…
Here’s the setlist:
Tarpit
Been There All The Time
No Bones
Lightning Bulb
Little Fury Things
Out There
Feel The Pain
Crumble
Pick Me Up
The Wagon
Freak Scene
Gargoyle (6+ minutes !)
– encores:
In A Jar
Mountain ManSo… after a "standard" show in Cologne I think Hamburg was one of the best Dinosaur shows I’ve seen. And probably the loudest !!! Which is a surprise, because I really had the feeling that they turned down the volume at many of the recent shows that I got to see in 2007 and since Ajay stopped doing the sound for the band… Anyways, awesome setlist, awesome playing, and the venue is a good one, sort of like a small indoor amphitheatre that holds about 1000 people. However, I must confirm that it was actually too loud and the sound was awful – believe me, this was my 16th Dino show and I know what the band usually sound like- this wasn’t the standard "Dinosaur loudness", it went far beyond that ! Everything was clipping and distorting like crazy, except for the vocals and cymbals – the volume was turned up even more for Freak Scene and the following songs and EVERYTHING was just a loud, fuzzy audio mess – when I walked out of the venue and took out my earplugs I noticed that the hearing on my right ear was pretty muffled… AND the band did have problems with the mics feeding back as soon as they walked onto the stage… Man, when Ajay was still doing sound for the band things sounded so much better… oh well, that’s what I think (I’m half deaf anyway
). Lou gave up singing and playing his bass for a brief moment during "Lightning Bulb" after he mixed up the words during the 2nd verse, and it looked as if he actually wanted to stop the song… he seemed pretty moody throughout the show. Anyways, I enjoyed this show a lot more than the Cologne gig the previous night – the setlist was much better and the 6+ minutes version of Gargoyle with some awesome jamming made it worth the trip. Off to the Munich show tomorrow…

When the "I trusted You" song started, at the like 45 second mark, I was thinking WTF is this, then I watched as they magically turned it into some sort of swirling mantra that after a few minutes became almost hypnotic. Then it was fun. I think they took something borderline silly and pushed it over the edge into sublime, I know people are still talking about it today. The Fleetwood Mac song was pretty good also. Sloan recorded the whole thing so perhaps y’all will be able to hear it someday.
