I ran into J at Burger King in Amsterdam back in June 2005, just few hours before their show at the Paradiso. I thought "hell, the Paradiso catering & food must be REALLY bad if he shows up here". Anyway, that doesn’t mean he’s not vegetarian, Burger King still sells the veggie-burger here – as opposed to Mc Donald’s who by now deleted it from their menue

Right at the very end of the song you can hear the guitars go "clang ! bang !" and you can make out a very excited Lou yelling "Yeah!" over the feedback. When they return to the stage he apologises for being an asshole and stuff…

I love the bonus version from Koko 2005 where J smashes the china cymbal !
"JustinStarbuck " wrote:oh sweet! ive always wanted to see that stage fight. is that performance on FSF? because if it was during severed lips, i figured itd be the last song on the set.No, but the audio is up (missing the last 2 songs Sludgefeast/Minor Threat). And: they returned back to the stage after the "fight" to play Lose & Mountain Man
In this case "Severd Lips" was performed mid-set.Philip Virus is currently working on a Dinosaur Jr retrospective/bio (not a "movie" with actors and stuff, though) using REAL footage, incl. the stage fight. No shit, there’ll be another Dino DVD sometime
"King Tubby " wrote:I actually like the f’up color scheme, and was hoping the whole thing will look like that. Then again, I smoke a lot of pot.I don’t smoke pot, but the whole thing does in fact look like that. The whole DVD is a great work of art. Don’t expect perfect colour, the picture is "artisitically" fucked up but totally goes with the music and the music is the best thing about the DVD… Really, this is one of the best DVDs I’ve seen and I don’t really care about DVDs too much at all. It’s cool how the venues switch from the Middle East (Cambridge MA) to Irving Plaza (NYC) during the encore break – the band leaves the Middle East stage, enters the dressing room and walks onto the NYC stage for the encores ! Perfect !
Oh, and the long solo in Gargoyle is THE SHIT !!!! Plus, I am grateful that they didn’t "smoothen out" some playing mistakes in the music – during "Kracked" J hits a wrong chord by 2 frets and during "Budge" J walks to his amp to adjust the sound although he should be singing the 1st verse. Cool that they didn’t edit any of this.
Did anyone notice how fucked up and fragile Sonic Boom looks/sounds in the interview bit ?
I’m surprised how well Kevin Shields has aged
Right. Plus Lou STRUMS his bass a lot and usually pics and hits the strings near the bass’ neck instead of playing near the bridge (playing near the neck not only sounds better but also LOOKS much better !)
"JustinStarbuck " wrote:ok, i don know who awesome color is but i searched em on youtube and they honestly look like a bunch of faggots. are these guys OPENING for dino at the shows or actually playing with em cuz that’ll piss me off so bad!!!believe me, i am totally picky when it comes to music, but i saw awesome color open for bardo pond a couple of months ago and they were, in fact, pretty AWESOME ! nothing really original or musically too exciting, but i rarely had such a good time seeing a support band, they know their deal, are a little crazy, their music is easily accessible, good spirited, LOFI if you want it, 60/70s rock, loads of guitar noodeling (in a good way) and a lot of fun. much better than the Drones, IMHO
I am pretty sure that there is NO WAY that these are going up on fsf – no matter how different the mixes are from the final album version these are still mixes of an OFFICIAL release and stuff like this is always shakey and I don’t think Anthony would like to deal with various lawyers & lawsuits etc…
But, yeah, damn, whatever…"empire " wrote:Please Please Please can we have another one for Beyond & maybe a collection of videos.
I just read in German music magazine "Uncle Sally’s" that Philip Virus (J’s brother in law who also brought you the Middle East DVD) is currently working on a bio/documentary focusing on J’s/Dino’s career, incl. video of the legendary 12-12-1987 "J vs Lou – guitar-bashing incident" that Thurston Moore contributed !!!

I’m not exactly 100% sure, but as far as I know parts of his family do in fact live in Florida !

April 27, 2007 at 3:40 pm in reply to: Session Tracks needed from Nothing much to Say bootleg #128341Those 4 tracks are part of the 1993 Dinosaur Jr "Black Session" (Paris) FM recording (live in studio performance with small audience in attendance) which is presented complete on the "Nothing Much To Say" boot (which I don’t have
). There’s also a "The Black Sessions" boot CD in a silver/grey digipack (there’s also a Sebadoh releaseof the same name/type). The full setlist is:1. Quest
2. Just Like Heaven
3. The Lung
4. Freak Scene
5. Get Me
6. Drawerings
7. Keep The Glove
8. Budge
9. Thumb"im lisa " wrote:for some reason this song reminds me of the velvet underground..i dont know why..i like it though
!!! Totally ! I was thinking "Heroin" when I heard it the first time, with the 2 chords and the percussive Moe-Tucker-drum backing. The bassguitar is totally Sebadoh-Lou style. I wish they’d play this one live as the set opener, would blow me away…
"crazycloud " wrote:im sure the artwork alone is enough to enduece one to actually buy the c.d. as well as the supporting the artists thing…The CD comes in a really slick digipack with a 2005 live picture on the back. But, even more: the final CD sounds SO MUCH BETTER than all those crappy mp3s, it will BLOW OFF YOUR ROOF !!!
