Yeah, taped both shows, but need a few days to get these ready. Today was actually better than yesterday – we got Tarpit (opener), Bulbs, Yeah We Know, Gargoyle…

And Lous new bass looks pretty funky. Hey, Im a bit drunk, but its my birthday

Lous new song is called Back To Your Heart. I think he outdid J by writing this one. At least I found it more interesting than This is all I came to Do, although I like the way J keeps adding guitar solos after each verse. The sound was a bid odd, in my opinion, the PA was clipping like crazy. Good show. Looking forward to tomorrows show.
hey mike, i have sent you a pm

Hey Mike,
I’m flying in from Germany to see both London shows and I am planing to record them as well (Minidisc). I’ve been thinking about where I should be standing to get a decent recording as well. It always sounds somewhat muffled when you’re recording while someone is standing in front of you. Maybe I’ll stick around near the PA this time. Anyway, I hope it’s ok to tape at the Mean Fiddler ? I haven’t been there before. I know there’s quite a few recordings from various bands that played the MF(LA2) out there.
BTW: Bardo Pond (amazing band, they openened for Dinosaur at a couple of US dates last year and they’re sort of "friends" with Dead Meadow) are playing in London on Dec. 4th…

"tonas " wrote:I thought he played Ludwigs. :-It depends. Usually bands "hire" a drumkit for tours. I’ve seen Murph use various drumsets over the past. I think the drums he plays at home (which are HIS drums, I guess) are the red Gretsch-kit (with the scratched high-tom), the same gear he used back in the 80s that J found on ebay before the reunion started. The kick-drum is a different & bigger one than back in the day. It has either a Gretsch-logo or a Ludwig-logo on the front skin, but I believe it’s always the same basic (Gretsch) drum. For the reunion, I’ve seen Murph use at least 6 different kits (they played Europe 3 times in 2005, the first leg of the tour had Murph playing the original Dinosaur Gretsch kit, the second was a green-looking set, the third had a maple finish or something), in Japan/Australia 2006 he played another different kit (also with a maple-looking finish), for the spring 2006 US tour I’ve seen pix where he plays a clear "see-through" kit (I heard that J has/had one ?), and a 6th kit (black with a white-sparkle ring on the drums) for the spring 2006 European tour. I think he ALWAYS uses Paiste 2002 cymbals. They sound amazing ! But are quite expensive.

I don’t care WHEN as long as it’s good…
Do you mean Final, the "ambient" soundscape-project of Justin K. Broadrick (ex-Godflesh and now Jesu) ? They’re really good. Sorry I can’t help you out, I wasn’t at the Brooklyn show. But I think Final are worth mentioning anyway.
"sonicdeathmonkey " wrote:It looks like a lagal issue. It looks really funny too. I love the cover. "What the Fuck…?" should be the name of their new album. It’s 100% bootleg, taped "off-air" when it was played over the radio back in the day (1988 BBC Peel Session) and then pressed on vinyl. That’s why some of the songs sound so "chopped" at the beginning and end (same goes for the "Quest" boot "7, which was taped off a FM broadcast as well). No Bones and Budge are on the official BBC Sessions CD (as are In A Jar & Keep The Glove from the "Quest" EP, from a 1989 broadcast), but Chunks & Quest (the song) aren’t (why, I wonder ?), so they could probably put up at freesofree…
"simmons " wrote:Rickenbacker bass is what Lemmy in Motorhead has used since early days or from the start. Not sure why Lemmy uses that one, is there any sixties band he was inspired from?
Not sure if Lemmy’s the main reason Lou has played Rickenbacker with dinosaur since the start. Rickenbacker is used by al lot of "alternative" ( read Mtv bands) nowadays.I think it was J’s suggestion to have Lou play a Rickenbacker. But a couple years back Lou had an update on loobiecore where he draw a comparison between himself and Lemmy. Lemmy has already played a Rickenbacker bass in his pre-Motorhead days when he was still with HAWKWIND (Check ’em out ! They’re killer ! Their 1971-1974 Lemmy-era stuff is totaly amazing psychedelic freak-out rock shit – there would be no Monster Magnet without Hawkwind)
August 30, 2006 at 3:41 pm in reply to: Dinosaur Jr Gear Stolen (Long Island City, NY) [CALL FOR HEL #121202I read that Lou tried to sell the Rickenbacker and bass-amp after a Sebadoh show in NYC, back in 1990 or 1991. When I interviewed him last year he told me he gave it to a friend in NY and that he was really excited when he asked his friend to get it back for the reunion and how surprised he was to get that original gear back. Damn, I wish he’ll get it back this time !
"King Tubby " wrote:"trensidoh " wrote:But Bob Mould’s totaly cool about taping… !Must be a recent development then — a few years back he made some folks take down some shows they had posted and has stated in interviews and on his blog how he doesn’t really like recordings of his shows being circulated, even though he cops to having and loving some great bootleg lps of other bands.
When I saw him live last year (September) his live taping policy was something like "totally cool with me" – I tried finding out before the show becasue I wanted to record. Well, whatever, even Dave Mathyuck Band said "yes" first, than a big "no no" and then "yes" again…
who cares ?

a ton of respect goes out to Sloan S. !
