The web seems to have really changed musicians’ attitudes regarding bootlegs, since the ability to share them outside the realm of commerce on such a huge scale then creates an unofficial "policing" force among fans who look out for people who try to make money off the recordings — like the members of this forum who shut down ebay sales of stuff that’s available for free on freesofree.net. It seems — paradoxically — that only bands that already make megabucks are the ones opposed to bootlegs anymore (like the execrable Dave Matthews Band, but maybe that’s because they don’t want more people to get a chance to hear how bad they SUCK). Them, and grouchy old Bob Mould.
But Bob Mould’s totaly cool about taping… !
There are various, in fact loads of recordings from that year, many of which are not up on freesofree. I think there are about 3 or 4 from Feb ’89 (I think Yale, Richmond, NYC & the BUnratty’s show), but I’ve never come across a DC show from that year… sorry that I can’t help.

did you say TAPE

Being the total collector nerd that I am, I need to set this straight:
it’s from the Batschkapp, Frankfurt, 26 October 1988 – the Bonn show was not filmed. The only time Dinosaur played in Bonn was on the previous day, 25 October which was only broadcast on radio…
oh, and Dinosaur have not toured Europe before the fall of 1987. So it can’t be from 1986. This clip, along with 2 others, is also available on freesofree.net.Playing the drums REALLY hard causes the skin to bubble and it hurts like crazy (I am going through that, too, ouch !) – so gloves are a welcome help…

They filmed about 30 shows. Can’t you imagine that it’ll take a looong time to get all that stuff together ?
Anyway, I summed up the following after gathering ALL of the DVD info I have read within the last year – they’re planning 3 DVDs
1 – "Freakscene" – a documentary on Dino 1984-2005
2 – a Live DVD of 2005 shows (both the documentary and the live one where announced by Virus productions last year)
3 – a DVD compilation gathering all the video clips they did.So, just be patient.
Cool ! Any chance you get to share these in FLAC or SHN ? MP3 sounds so… uuh… "mouldy" (?) ?

WHY.DO.PEOPLE.TAKE.CELLPHONES.TO.SHOWS?I HATE THAT.
SMSing like crazy and stuff. I even had somebody start a conversation on his phone at a show recently. What kind of shit-behaviour is that ? I don’t mind seeing a couple of pix from a show so it’s cool to have people take pictures (w/either phone or camera), but whatthehellamItryingtosayanyway
One that nearly nobody knows about is the 3-camera-footage of the 1988 Dortmund show – 2 songs of this (Let It Ride and Freak Scene) appeared on the German "Tribal Area" video-fanzine 1989 (Vol. II – among some other exlclusive footage is Fugazi
). Also, there’s video of Manchester Uni 1989 and London Powerhouse 1989 as well. Maxwell’s/Hoboken Sept. 1988 was filmed as well, as was Naugatuck 1987. There’s probably a hell lot more than this…
)The screaming is definitely 100% pure Lou; Lee Ranaldo is doing the background SINGING (sort of "behind" J’s singing); nobody can scream like this but Lou… on current live shows, Lou also sings backup (which makes J and Lou sing in sync, practically
)Phillip Virus and his crew filmed almost EVERY show of the summer 2005 tours (June to August 2005), plus the November 2005 shows (incl. NY and Boston) – so it’ll be a while before the DVD is ready, I guess (there are many complaints about the DVD not being available yet). Going through all the footage AND then having to remix and synchronise the sound with the film usually takes ages…. :-
but I am convineced that it’s going to be good
Must be a server issue since the jakerock-forum (on Jason Loewenstein’s site) is down, too. Both forums (and homepages) are run by Chris Heric, a friend of Sebadoh’s. About a week ago I tried accessing the jakerock forum and it said something like "Hackers unite" or so and it all seemed very weird to me…
