Go back and listen to Whatevers cool with me. very catchy solo.watt is great on bass. yes this is true. sorry though, thats all he is. he doesn’t make j’s songs better by any way. go back and listen to mike johnson live. watt just adds chaos to the songs.i admit he’s amazing on the bass maybe the best i’ve ever heard, but honestly he dissapoints me in every song especially the old dinosaur jr songs. mike johnson was a perfect fit for the songs.
dont get yr panties in bunches cause a few old time dino fans dont enjoy yr "punk generation jam". we expected 15 songs of j’s, not stooges. i dont care how great asheton is I didn’t pay for his show. even still last time i checked watt and mascis are from the same generation so what is this about three gererations of punk. who cares anyways.watts vocals are sorry too."same day" has great backing vocals on album and he slaughters them. he ruins almost every song with his all star bass lines. he’s a very nice man who i’ve met and he’s a great bassist, but i feel ill listening to his bass lines. the songs are already amazing, leave ’em be.
DITO! I was at the el rey show too. i felt the same way. i wish i payed for a stooges cover band ticket instead maybe it would of been cheaper. i certainly didn’t get my moneys worth out of this show. "the lung" was amazing possibly one of the best versions i’ve heard live. also "budge" was a real treat. i had caught wind that j. had been playing it lately and i was really anticipating it. i’ve seen j twelve times and never heard "budge" only on bootlegs.
the fog was really tight and all the songs were great even though it was only 45min.
the stooges songs are painfully boring. it amazes me that j. who writes the best songs in the world was influenced by that crap. oh well life goes on- just warning any of you guys goin to see him soon-feel free to leave as soon as richard asheton gets on cause they dont play any more j songs after that. -
