Gimme Indie RockRight after they played flood kurt fedora (of goblehoof fame, also on martin and me) came out from back stage and ran right off the stage towards me, i thought he was a security guard coming out to bust a weed smoker, he took a dive off the stage and everyone behind me moved right out of the way and he hit the ground face first. There was break and Eric came over and said "Was that Kurt?" told the croud he wasnt on anything and he’d only had a few drinks, was only embracing the concert. Im sorry Kurt i wish everyone woulda cought ya, damn northampton crowd.
Anyway great show. I love these guys and i’ll be there tommorow in boston!

I recorded the show and as soon as I am able to, I’ll upload it to Anthony. I didn’t actually see the stage dive, b/c someone was blocking my view of the right side of the stage- but someone next to me told me. Crazy. Was he OK?
Just got back from the Pearl St show… I’m gonna upload it shortly…
"gkay44 " wrote:I can imagine it being enjoyable, despite my original comment about the small festival. I have mixed feelings regarding experimental shows and whatnot. I do wish I lived a bit closer to the Hampshire hills region, perhaps I’d feel more in touch with what goes on around there. Anyway, I’m definitely psyched to see the original Sebadoh line-up again since my only time seeing it back in April of 93.It’s cool. I don’t think I could legitamantly call it a "rock" show. It was experimental for sure. Long songs, experimental noise, weirdness. There was some rocking parts to it, but it was pretty laid back.
"gkay44 " wrote:Wow, I’m surprised the Bent Moustache showed. So what’d J do, play a Fall cover with them? Wish I’d seen that actually. BTW, was anybody from Sebadoh there? Hope you didn’t have to sit thru too much crud to see the goodstuff.I believe Lou’s parents were there, maybe. Bent Moustache were a last minute addition I think- they were actually penned in on the schedule by the entrance, sometime after the show began. The whole thing was pretty laid back- it seemed most everyone there knew each other pretty well. I enjoyed the experience, and it fit my mood pretty well.
"King Tubby " wrote:Pasta Y Basta is what I’m thinking of, though originally it was only one floor, so it must’ve moved/expanded sometime after 2002 (the last time I was there). I don’t remember Fatzos, but I lived in Noho for my three years in that area and tended to eat mostly in town (La Veracruzana; the Thai joint that relocated from central downtown to the north side of the train bridge; the couple of Indian places; Ichiban (which was a stone’s throw away from my apartment); East Side Grill; and Packard’s, which I hope is still there. Great burgers. I used to go to the Boltwood Tavern in Amherst pretty often, though, and an old drunk prof and I once got cut off and kicked out of there after downing an obscene amount of scotch. That led to a projectile vomiting episode once I somehow made it home, and a two-day hangover. I also loved that diner out by Look Park that baked their own bread and whipped up the best homemade corned beef hash I’ve ever tasted. And there’s Pekarski’s smokehouse up in the hills near Conway, which sold the best kielbasa and smoked pork chops ever. And Bub’s BBQ, which I’ve heard is still there. After having lived in the terminal hell that is central NJ for the past six years, I look back on my time in the Noho/Amherst area with great fondness.Ah, by Look Park? That would be Flo’s Diner. That’s a great place. Lobster lovers told me their lobsters were great. Flo’s is still there- BUT.. they converted the back room into a bar. The bar is nice… but… no lobsta’s now.
Oh, and Packard’s is most defintely there.
Pasta Y Pasta has been expanded, you’re right.
Another casuality in Noho is Fire & Water. That places closed down a few years back- but the owner opened up a new place in Florence called "Evolution".
"Another Girl Another Planet " wrote:anyone check it out…Yes, I just got back.
The Bent Moustache also played. Featuring "Joseph".
"kracked873 " wrote:you gonna record sebadoh?i do plan on it, yes.
"kracked873 " wrote:im definetely going to both irving plaza shows from worcester, MA. hell i went to both last year and i drove back and went to work at 6am between the two shows. ya do what ya gotta do.im super psyched for sebadoh next week!@ wish i could go to more than just the MA shows but i dont have the fundings for traveling right now.
Ha, yeah. I’ll be at the Sebadoh show next week in Noho. My problem is i no longer have a car. though- no gas $ and no parking $ = about the same (maybe) as the price of a bus ticket. so, whos knows.
if i go to the nyc shows ill def record them though…
"tom_in_chicago " wrote:I would bet that there will be a 2nd leg that hits the east coast.I have no doubt that there will be a NE (boston and/or northampton) show. Last tour they didnt add the Northampton date right away.. it was added later. I’m not sure if this has anything to do with the fact that the Northampton venues are independently owned and tickets can’t be purchased at ticketmaster, etc.
haha, but yeah im getting antsy. what to do, what to do. shall i just take 2-3 days off, take a train to nyc, and watch both irving plaza shows? anyone wanna fund me for that? haha… ill reeeecooooord it. j/k
im actually somewhat tempted. the only thing keeping me is the logical inanity of spending $ taking a train to nyc- spending $ to stay in a NYC hotel for 2-3 nights… taking 2-3 days off of work, which means -$…and paying $ for the shows on top of all that. im not sure, but i dont think i have the $ for that. they are probably the only band though id actually see 2-3 consecutive nights in a row though, so that isnt whats keeping me. practicality is.
i actually spoke to some girl though who was a big tori amos fan. she actually took a flight out to florida (from mass) just to see tori in tampa. then, when she got back to mass, was gonna see her in boston.
im spoiled here in western mass to no ends. (to all of you reading this who is thinking WTF, i live in *insert geographically disparate location here* that is so far from *insert major concert city location here*. I regularly have to put up with this sort of *insert explicitive*. How dare you be so lazy/whatever, arent you a troo fan?)
haha, sorry. 2 am rants are fun. i actually find dino fans to be the best fans ive run across in a long time- and meant nothing againt ya. im clearly a big one myself, haha.
"King Tubby " wrote:Yeah, I’m spacing the name of that one too, but I distinctly remember buying the Coltrane Complete Vanguard ’61 box there, along with a 4-cd box of live Nusrat Ali Khan material. Their prices on some things were fantastic. Newbury Comics must’ve been the final nail in the coffin for them. That place was a real institution, reaching back to the ’70s, I think. That’s really too bad. Is that cheap pasta place near Newbury Comics still open? There is a Pasta Y Basta there. I don’t know if this is the one you’re referring to. I know its been there a while (at least since ’00.. I think) but only recently went there. It’s 3 or so floors… but I think that is recent (might have only been 1 floor before).
Also, another institution in Amherst is the Mercantile. I dont think they do quite as well as they once did- although the Northampton location seems fine. I heard that Umass amherst banned any candles on campus- which is a majoy business for that store. reason: too many umass students lit candles next to posters/decorative cloths. so they banned the candles, not the moron students. gee, one would think that after lighting a candle, one should not go to bed/get shitfaced drunk and leave your room.
The biggest institution in the area, restaurant-wise, that I can think of, is Fitzwilly’s in Northampton. I’m not sure how long they have been there… but I don’t see any problems there. I love that place. I think that the biggest issue driving these places out of business though is rising property taxes.
The *best* burger joint I’ve ever been to was in Amherst called Fatzos (also the best, and aptly named). Unfortunately they inexplicably closed at the end of 2006 (the cost of having a business in Amherst became to expensive, and they were forced to close- even though they were a very popular place). You could get a burger in multiple sizes- quarter pound, half pound, 3/4 pound and the Fatzo’s pound. Such variety too. Amazing fries. And they f&*cking closed!
"King Tubby " wrote:Whooooo boy……..that does look pretty terrible. I’m happy to see Mystery Train is still open, though. It’s been quite a few years since I’ve been up Amherst way and I sometimes wonder how many of the old book and record shops are still hanging on. I’ve heard Dynamite in Northampton is either gone, or in the process of going, which is a bummer. I bought a lot of jazz and reggae there over the years. That old record store in amherst thats been there for like 35 years closed at the end of 2006. i dont even remember the name. i never went there. but it does suck, in theory i totally support independent record stores. i like mystery train a lot though.
edit: it was ‘for the record’
That would be most excellent if this were made available on FreeSofree.
"whateverscool " wrote:Speaking of, have they released images of the cover art? Just wondering if it is a painting-dealy or a photo-dealy. I guess besides Green Mind and More Light they’ve all been paintings. Just hope it is kickass and will look good hung up.Would be pretty cool if it were Angry Jonny again.

Carpe Diem!
Yeah… I might die tomorrow. So, I need to steal this album, in case I die before it’s released. hehe. I think that’s the best reasoning ever. It’s actually so true. hehe

seriously though, my experience is that it’s best to wait a wee while until they’ve fixed the first glitches etc.
If you get it, or try a computer with it installed, I’d love to hear your thoughts.A well know glitch for *many* Vista users is the inability to get iTunes to work. They are currently incompatible for many users. A patch is expected to come out soon- but I haven’t heard anything yet.
