tuff gnarl is one of my faves along with pipeline/kill time and (i got a) catholic block.
a friend of mine just bought me "Galileo’s Daughter" by Dava Sobel, and it’s fucking great so far. he was a truly fascinating man. and db, i have a shitload of bukowski books, never get tired of him. one of my favorites: "the shoelace"
a woman. a tire that’s flat, a disease, a desire;
fears in front of you,
fears that hold so still
you can study them
like pieces on a chessboard..
it’s not the large things that send a man to the madhouse.
death he’s ready for, or murder, incest, robbery, fire, flood. . .no it’s the continuing series of small tragedies
that send a man to the madhouse. . .
not the death of his love
but a shoelace that snaps
with no time left. . .
the dread of life
is that swarm of trivialities
that can kill quicker than cancer
and which are always there
license plates or taxes
or expired driver’s license,
or hiring or firing,
doing it or having it done to you, or constipation
speeding tickets
rickets or crikets or mice or termites or rocahes or flies
or a broken hook on a screen, or out of gas
or too much gas,
the sink’s stopped-up, the landlord’s drunk,
the president doesn’t care and the governor’s crazy.
lightswitch broken, mattress like a porcupine;
$105 for a tune up,
carburetor and fuel pump at Sears Roebuck;
and the telephone bill’s up and the market’s down
and the toilet chain is broken,
and the light has burned out-
the hall light, the front light, the back light,
the inner light; it’s darker than hell
and twice as expensive.
then there’s always crabs and ingrown toenails
and people who insist they’re your friends;
there’s always that and worse;
leaky facet, Christ and Christmas;
blue salami, 9 day rains, 50 cent avocados
and purple liverwurst.
or making it as a waitress at Norms’s on the split shift,
or as emptier of bedpans,
or as a carwash or a busboy
or a stealer of old lady’s purses
leaving them screaming on the sidewalks
with broken arms at the age of 80.
suddenly 2 red lights in your rear view mirror
and blood in your underwear;
toothache, and $979 for a bridge
$300 for a gold tooth,
and China and Russia and America,
and long hair and short hair and no hair;
and beards and no faces, plenty of zigzag but no pot,
except maybe one to piss in and the other one around your gut.
with each broken shoelace
out of one hundred broken shoelaces,
one man, one woman, one thing
enter a madhouse.
so be careful when you bend over.these really don’t pertain to music at all, but there are some cool buttons here:
http://www.evolvefish.com/fish/buttons.html”>http://www.evolvefish.com/fish/buttons.htmluhhhh…….. hanisone, they all go in his mouth. look at the cover of "kirk’s Work"
i can’t believe with the jazz fans on here, nobody has mentioned roland kirk. master of the manzello and the stritch, not to mention the water hose. (and he gets bonus points for being able to play three horns at once.)
crooked fingers fans – the new record is everything i expected it to be, and more. my friend described eric’s voice as ‘neil diamond after smoking six packs of cigarettes’.
oooooooooooh db, i had forgotten about the new nick cave! i might go to the record store this evening to pick up the crooked fingers, i’ll drop a report if i get around to it.
i’m still sticking with bucs/raiders. should be 2 great games though. allison, a writer for the pittsburgh post-gazette seems to think that kordell stewart would be a good fit for the bears, he’s not gonna be in the ‘burgh next season, that’s a given.
lol. sorry, no rock jungle for me. hehe, i almost forgot about that shamelessness………..thanks for reminding me. missed jon spencer at rosebud last night, sure it rocked, but haven’t read a review yet.
didn’t actually buy tickets yet, but:
patty griffin 1/22
CVB 1/23 (i never thought i’d have a chance to see these guys….
)lol, after reading that i do remember hearing about it. can’t say i’ve ever been to tom’s diner (although that is a good song). think i’ll stick to the stillers safety zone of bloomfield bridge tavern and 31st st. pub.

hehe, no LDD, i didn’t hear about the guy getting beat up, but that doesn’t really surprise me. i went to a stillers/browns game once and saw a guy get beat down for wearing browns colors, and he was on crutches BEFORE he got the hell beat out of him
. truly was a heartbreaker of a game, that secondary has been pretty suspect all season, so let’s hope we make a few changes there in the off season. my picks for the weekend: raiders/bucs, although my interest plummets once the ‘lers stop playing. at least Pitt hoops is doing well.OK folks, almost game time. got a plate full of pierogies and a fridge full of Iron. HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO! WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Game Day Peoples!! Don’t know why, but i have a feeling the stillers are gonna blow the titans out.
i’m a chuck feind too malc. currently have about 7-8 pairs lying around. here is where i’ve been getting mine for the last year and a half or so. next on my list are the fake leather silver metallic ones.
