I somewhat agree with you and think its sacreligous to do what they are doing. I love Ace he is one of my favorite guitarist of all time.
BUT…… I will say that currently Tommy Thayer plays the songs better than Ace, which is crazy to me but its true. Ace’s playing is really sloppy these days. Tommy hits them note for note.

I have to agree with you on the playing. So if you had a choice, KISS with the songs played spot on, or a sloppy show with the original line-up?
I never thought I’d say this–Ace is my favorite– but I’d rather see the well-done show. I mean, a KISS concert is already more of a reenactment than an artistic statement.
I agree with Malcolm. Ace is my favorite but I know when he hits a wrong note. I’d rather hear the songs played the way they were written. I like how Tommy Thayer plays them spot on, I just wish he got his own persona and wasn’t just a repACEment.
Is he just wearing Ace’s get up? If so that sucks, although considering the track record for the other personas they came up with for non original member (I think the Ankh was mentioned earlier?) you can sort of see why they did it.
I wonder if there’ll ever be a renaissance to ‘Hot In The Shade’ era kiss…
