Its weird that the B’ sides are on their because they are from WHere You BEen era not green mind
May 15, 2006 at 3:11 pm #116616well.. yeah, but Get me was recorded released in 92, with hot burrito #2, so maybe it’s closer in date with the green mind release. But I also associate those bonus tracks with Where you been.
May 15, 2006 at 4:45 pm #116617Not that I’m complaining, but they should’ve loaded up the Green Mind reissue with a bunch of the stuff on Whatever’s Cool With Me……or simply remastered and reissued that, too.
May 16, 2006 at 9:39 am #116618that would have made more sense
May 16, 2006 at 9:59 am #116619Has anyone got the actual CD’s yet? Hows the packaging? I’m curious to know. Mine won’t show up until tomorrow, waiting sucks!

The tracklistings on these Rhino reissues are totally lame and so miserly meagre. Really, WTF? Why does it always seem to be this way with Dinosaur?
Let’s be honest. Given all the fantasizing and speculation about the reissues of the SST and Homestead albums that no doubt we all did while waiting for those, weren’t they ultimately a dissapointment? I mean, actually omitting the cover version of Show Me The Way, just a couple of bonus tracks, chronological confusions, etc. I know some of us here bitched about it at the time but, ugh! Aren’t these latest batch of reissues just like deja vu all over again?
May 16, 2006 at 3:01 pm #116621Well, with the SST albums there wasn’t a wealth of material to slap on them, and if J thinks the Frampton cover sucks and didn’t want it on there, that’s his decision. Chunks and Throw Down would’ve been nice, though. I didn’t consider those reissues a disappointment at all because they sound so fucking good! All the bass punch, the depth of sound, the texture in the guitars — they’re probably the best remastering jobs I’ve heard, better even than the EMI reissues of Bowie’s old catalog, and on par with the consistently incredible remastering done on old reggae and dub albums by the Blood & Fire label (they’ve set the standard for remastering quality for a decade now). Granted, anything at all would’ve been an improvement over the horrible SST cds, but those Merge remasters delivered bigtime. I’m hoping these Rhino ones will deliver sonically, and if the job they did with Television’s Marquee Moon is any indication, they should.

Although I have read that J thinks its the worst thing they ever did. :-
May 16, 2006 at 4:01 pm #116623really? thats weird. i absolutely love it, and i hate Peter Frampton. J’s view on the song is so much better.

"King Tubby " wrote:Well, with the SST albums there wasn’t a wealth of material to slap on them,They must’ve had plenty of live stuff to choose from to make them more attractive. I’ve got a shitty cassette of the entire Vera Groningen show from ’87. My tape’s bad that was recorded straight from the mixing desk and The Lung from that gig turned up on the "Beauty In The Underworld" compilation. That would’ve made a wicked companion disc to YLOM. Y’know , just thoughts like that. Whatever J thinks about Show Me The Way, his version rules, end of story. Isn’t it on the Jap reissue anyway?
Just Does It Float live on Dinosaur, Just Like Heaven + Video (huh?) on YLAOM, B-side to Freak Scene and a couple of videos on Bug struck me as a bit disappointing.
You know what I meant. I think we were all sort of hoping for "Deluxe" editions i.e. Pavement. But yeah, sonic improvement is a good thing.
May 16, 2006 at 4:19 pm #116625"Keep the Glove" is such a fantastic addition to Bug. though, it kind of changes the ‘climax (?)’ to the album. its a huge change to end with Don’t and it changes to Keep the Glove. i feel like they just add the bonus tracks to the end (i guess they do?). i’d think an artist every now and then wouldn’t like it.
but i do feel they could’ve added more like they’re doing now with Green Mind and Where You Been.
May 16, 2006 at 6:35 pm #116626I like the videos as extras… they could’ve done that again. Who doesn’t have Quest?
May 16, 2006 at 7:48 pm #116627I picked up the Rhino reissues today and the remastering is great! I can notice the subtle guitar leads in the wagon now and the kck drum in out there is finally on level instead of being to loud like before. the packaging is cool, has the orginal stuff plus a couple extra pages w/ pictures in each booklet. there is a story about each album in there too. all in all im very pleased with the job they did and I am psyched that all the dino albums are starting to sound a whole helluva lot better. I listened to without a sound and whatever’s the other day and I think those albums don’t really need remastering, but that’s just my opinion. when is the cbgb’s cd going to be available?

May 17, 2006 at 10:19 am #116629I’m pretty disappointed with the "bonus" tracks, yes but have to agree that the first albums needed to be remastered in a bad way. To me, even if they left off the bonus tracks, it would have been worth doing. I’m a little skeptical about the new ones though. I have the bonus tracks in one form or another and Where You Been already sounds great to me. My copy is a little scratched, though, so I’ll pick up a new one. Green Mind always sounded a little tinny to me but that doesn’t necessarily justify a full re-release. I’ll get that one too but only because I’m a huge fan and my copy of green mind has the "Whatever’s Cool With Me" cover instead of the right one (I bought it used).
