            Malc,

I normally do not comment on your reports simply because I feel unqualified in commenting on someone else’s life’s occurances if offense to me doesn’t occur. Not to mention, people have the right to experience life in their own way through their own particular frame of reference. I try to honor that with silence and appreciation from afar.

I just find the need to express a few things that I risk will enhance my alienation hereabouts on FS:

            1. I do not see you as whining, but trying to reconnoiter your growth and development in trying times with equally trying people. Perhaps the weighing of values in each may give you an idea if it is worth it to continue on with them and with the cards you have been dealt. Change is pro-active and any derived satisfaction with a bum deal starts there. The choice is yours at this point, it seems.

            2. Hard as it is to swallow, I saw a strange paradox in what you said above. You mentioned not havng a girlfriend for nineteen years and being realtively happy about it. On the other hand you seem sad about it not working out this time, but that it bothers you about not having any songs or whatnot to come out of it. Who knows, maybe the situtation is too new to make sense out of yet.

From what I know to be true, at least in the poetry I have been taught and have written, emotion needs to become thought, then the words come and then coherence. Have you tried writing all this down in black and white, as a stream of conciousness exercise? Keeping everything in the ol’ bean leaves it more grey and unmanagable, at least in my experience.
Who knows, you may even be able to get such a handle on the depth and undercurrents exisiting
in this matter so that you can turn it to something positive for any similar situations that may pop up. The experience is only as valuable as its applications, sometimes. Luck to you, prairie dog.

              Yes to flavors.
              recent list:
Pepsi, mountain dew, blue-berry, cherry, vanilla coke

They also have a slurp-gulp thing now where you mix soda with the slurpee for extra cost of course

not a soft-serve substitute but might meet you halfway, ok so its not a sherbert, lynch me

Sorry from me too, max. I remember a time she discussed the two of you each having a copy of More Light, and thought, wow, she acted just like my ma does sometimes in bridging that generation gap. My condolences and help are there for the taking. Welcome to Freakscene, nonetheless.

                    Bwahaha!!
A week or two ago, another paycheck-stealin’ scribe said J has been straight-edge since the mid- 80’s and now this one seems to think he is perpetually stoned. I know, who gives a damn what J does or doesn’t do in his daily life, but it is funny to see such varied and begrudged negativity about our patron.

I would be interested to hear someone comment on how good he writes lyrics and choreographs them with the written music for the best possibile listening effects. I think he is a hell of great arranger and it is no wonder why he is sought for producing work for others.

Lastly, thanks to HATCHET, coco, sludge and Jeremiah and anyone else I forgot for the attendance, reviews etc for these shows. I would thank all the time but the Packard Bell hoopty be damn slow to post often.

                          To finish off from yesterday,

                          Pete Yorn– "musicforthemorningafter".

Yorn, I think, is a great songwriter and composer. I cannot say his greatest strength is from orignality or derivation but more a combination of the two. I have not sat down and tried to name all of the influences I heard while listening to "morning" because as soon as I go over them, Yorn floors me with something of his own in the arrangement of the music, words or their own interplay. It’s worth a try, indeed, a fun. sweet album.

Lastly, I lucked out with a limited edition containg cover songs on a second disc. Even through I am not a Springsteen fan, I love this more soulful version of "Dancing in the Dark". Yorn’s version of "China Girl" is also super.

The White Stripes– "White Blood Cells"

Well, I already caved in to The Strokes, so I figured, what the hell, go all the way out to the critic’s hoedown. So far, I like it for the rawness in the harder songs and the hooks in the softer ones. I am sure they will grow on me some more after I put the disc away for a bit. Definitley, some closer listening is needed. I like it.

                          Sonic Youth– "Murray Street"

Yay! Let’s hear it again and again! After "Dirty" and "Experimental Jet Set", I fell off the train with SY, mainly due to my inability to find the "art" in much of the noise. On "Murray", SY sees to have found every strength and put them all together seamlessly. Every single note seems to be placed perfectly.

If the old bull about J. making it ok to uses solos in alt rock is true, then SY makes it attractive to use long, exploratory jamming. The transitions, or bridges, if you will, in this release are very well timed and perhaps that is why all the jamming works out.

On track two, "Disconnection Notice", Thurston Moore sings, "…Your secret Mona Lisa hides behind her smile." A fellow fan of the local South Bend, IN band Clark had that same line on the top of her website before "Murray" came out. Saw Clark Friday (who are releasing their first disc Wed. and then heading to Cali and then Florida for a tour. Yay Clark!!{will do a thread on them soon}) and asked her about the line. She said it came from At The Drive In. Another band deified by SY, or?????

                              SLEATER-KINNEY

We have been getting a ton of emails about specifics of when "One
Beat" will be available, whether there will be pre-orders, when it’ll
be out internationally, etc. To set the record straight, we are not
doing pre-orders, but we will put the album on sale as soon as they
arrive in mailorder, which should be in early August, and we’ll have
extra helpers in mailorder to try to get orders processed even faster
than usual. We’ll announce it in the weekly update of course, but if
you’ve got to be in the know ASAP, sign up in the shopping cart to
get an email when the album is in stock:
                              http://www.buyolympia.com/killrockstars/Item=KRS387

The band is working on other treats like new shirts, buttons, and
stickers too… as for the album… there will be limited editions of
the CD and LP. The CD will include a bonus CD-Single of two songs
not on the album and the LP will include a bonus 7" with those songs,
as well as a poster in the package. In addition, LP orders through
mailorder will get another poster on top of that, which is different
from the one inside the record… AWESOME! it will be worth the wait
                              I promise!

And for the Europeans, One Beat will be on KRS in Europe and will
have the same release date, and of course you can also buy it early
                              through mailorder.

Also west coast tour dates for September are confirmed!

                                Welp, here is June’s haul:

Lemonheads: "Creator" and "Lick". — An Ex from a decade ago sd how much better the older, harder Lemonheads was compared to the moe melodic, later stuff. I don’t agree, (so much for marriage) but I do not disagree either. It is like two different bands. With all of the lineup changes over the years, it makes sense. One thing that is noticable in comparing these two to albums like "Ray" and "C’mon feel" is Dando’s maturation as a songwriter. With the older stuff, that same flow is evident, only the wordings and ideas are simpler. Found these for about 5 bucks apiece in the cheapie bin at a local supermarket. I is
                                with luck sometimes.

The John Doe Thing– "Kissing So Hard" and "Meet John Doe" – Eponymous.
Why someone would return these to the used bin, I can understand if you are not a fan of Doe. The delivery is odd for straight-ahead rock and roll love songs, and is not the punk a fan of "X" would like
or expect. However, to me, these records are the ore and my brain is the pickaxe. The harmonies are smooth, the lyrics are heartfelt and the music is middle-of-the road rock, to country, to rockabilly on the softer side, Will make for good traveling tunes. Kill Rock Stars said Doe "… wil never let you down.". I agree he does not if the urge to limit expectations to previous works can be avoided.

Ooops… gotta go. Will add more today or tomorrow. Sorry about the length of these but I am happy that some risks have paid off and would like to give to you all some suggesstions as you have to me. By the way, thanks.
